The german company Woodpecker Games released Dockfighters - The Ale Wars that have the potential to be the spiritual successor of Crimson Skies.

I always find some parts of its lore to be baffling... "It was intended as a replacement to rifleman"... And I wonder... HOW?! Both mechs are not even in the same ballpark when it comes to loadout and role. Rifleman is a medium-long range direct fire support with its primary firepower being dual AC-5 and dual Large Lasers - both weapons having their medium range at ~10 hexes. It is basically an early sniper mech - a walking turret, basically. Quickdraw's only longer range weapon is LRM-10, and its remaining weapons have a medium range value of 4-6 hexes. This thing is a mobile attacker. They have two very different niches in combat.

There is one thing to note. Stalker is also stupidly hard to kill. It has symmetrical design in most configs, and assuming that ammo explosion doesn't kill it, loss of a torso just removes 50% of its firepower, but it always has the second side. This creates a machine that is incredibly hard to de-tooth. Mechs like Highlander or Victor for example, lose a lot of their bite just after losing a left arm, others get limited to single range bracket. BUT even a crippled stalker can dish out more firepower than most introtech era mediums and more than even some heavies - I mean, half of a Stalker is still more firepower than a Dragon.

With regards to Britt Reid's policy on killing; I've listened to quite a bit of the radio version, although not all of it, and I'm trying to recall if the Green Hornet ever deliberately kills anyone. He gets blamed for a lot of murders, but I don't think he actually kills anyone directly. I don't get the impression that he's rigidly opposed to it though, more that it's a consequence of radio drama standards. (Most bad guys end up dead or on death row in The Shadow radio series too, but he doesn't generally shoot them or otherwise directly kill them like in the pulps. Radio 'Lamont Cranston' rarely even carries a gun.) The screen version is less restricted. On the other hand, Britt Reid is also a sort of legacy of the Lone Ranger, who did have a more explicit opposition to killing.

Honestly why do you need CGL at all? I bought my armored combat, and clan invasion boxes from third parties, for a fraction of cgls prices. If they tank, we have 3d printers, copy machines, and 40 years of materials.
