the video was awesome, but i think there are two things that need to be clarified. two stories from this video can be a bit confusing. first, the Ganesha story. ganesha was formed from the herbal grime of clay she used to clean herself while bathing. Ganesha was therefore born from 'tamas guna' or the bad qualities of man. some say shiva was cursed by a sage to kill his own son, some say that shiva knew that mushikasur, a powerful demon who was blessed by brahma that he could only be killed by a being who was twice born , would be wreaking havoc on earth. so shiva for the greater good , slashes ganesha's head, which also symbolizes the destruction of alll the bad qualities ganesha was born out of. Second, long story short, a samudra (sea) manthan (churning) event happened. this was so that the speacial treasures that the Sea god possessed could be procured for the greater good, also lakshmi, the daughter of sea god and vishnu's beloved was to be obtained from this manthan. one of the things that came out of the sea was Halahal (most lethal poison). to protect the poison from destroying life, shiva drank the poison, but parvati stopped the poison from going down shiva's throat by cupping her hands around shiva's neck. thus the blue colour on his throat. many say that this is how snakes became venomous. the naga (snake) species also drank the poison to prevent the poisoning of the ocean.
