    holy shit, finally some good news for Kyoto with the Express Bus service. I went in May 2023 and screwed myself. I basically walked from Kyoto Station to Kiyumizudera only to hop on a bus that takes you back to Kyoto station. I thought it was gonna take me to the entrance of the street towards the temple itself. I did get to see multiple things that day and was unfortunately to late to enter the temple premises, however I went north towards Gion and visited a cool Ramen restaurant and entered the zones where pictures weren't allowed, which I obliged to.

    I do not understand why the train companies would want to get rid of IC Cards in favor of credit cards for contactless payment at the fare gates. Credit cards charge the vendor (in this case, the train companies) a fee for each transaction. the train companies own the IC card system, meaning no transaction fee.

    Foreigner price difference is not new to me. Over 20 years ago on family trip to Vietnam, the hotel staff told my dad they had to charge us Foreigner price after they heard my brother and I speaking in English. This is after my dad had already prepay for the hotel at the regular price. The different in price for "native" vs foreigners was substantial in Vietnam. Even though your examples in the video show increase in price for foreigners, it's doesn't seem to be exorbitantly higher. That being said, no one likes have to pay more for things.

    I had one of my best nights at club life in Osaka. Experience I have always been facinated with the night life in Japan in general and Osaka in particular, So when I got to Osaka I was excited because the atmosphere did not betray the stories I heard from people that have visited Osaka. After checking into my hotel room at about 3am ,I took a shower and got dressed, ready to explore the night life in the Shinsabashi shopping district and night life hub,Since it was my first time in the City, I had to look up on the internet for bars to hang out with a drink and good music.Before this time I read a review on reddit about an International Bar Named Club life, so I decided to give it a try since it was very near the busy area with many other entertainment establishments.It took me about 15mins to get there from the hotel I was staying at.When I got there, the ambience was just very welcoming. I got seated and looking at the menu, I was surprised to see that the drinks were moderatedly priced.The music was superb, the bar man who doubles as a DJ was playing the right mixture of Afrobeats and Hiphop,he even suggessted that I make any song request of my choice and he would play it. It was so refreshing to see and meet other foreigners like me having a good time at Clublife. The drinks on the menu are surprisingly cheaper than most bars i visited afterwards. Cocktails were less than 1000 yen,with beers selling at the tantalizing price of 700yen for draft beer and 800 for bottle beers .To make things even hotter, there is pepper soup on the menu riddled with beef chunks and goes for only 1000 yen,one can choose to have it with or without rice. I couldnt be happier to be at this bar. Just as I requested my fav song and it started playing, a very sexy Japanese girl walked in and within few minutes invited me for a dance.At this point, the crowed was abuzz with fun chatter and dancing.We danced and ordered more drinks. As if that wasnt enough, the bar man would offer patrons at the front bar free shots of tequila or Jack Daniels.One of the coolest things about the bar is that, there are many games you can play while you enjoy your time there. There is a Darts game and a table tennis in the middle of the bar/Club.The Japanese girl I danced with and eventually became my friend told me she often visits the club with her friends and it is their fav spot to party and chill.

    I am not Japanese, living in Tokyo for more than 8 years. I recommend not paying attention to the recommendations of this guy. Come to Japan anytime of the year. Tokyo is empty during the golden week. Kyoto was perfect during corona, now it is impossible anytime. The rainy season in 2023 was almost nonexistent and similarly this year, so far (June 13, 2024) almost no rain. End of march, beginning of April is sakura blossoming, I have been coming to Japan since 2009 as a tourist at that time of the year, until I became a resident. I never realized about the end of the fiscal year or travels of school kids. That is a silly observation. But definitely, the most silly recommendation is to avoid visiting Japan during the sakura blossoming, I don't understand what is in his mind.

    • @redfish337
      @redfish337 Před 4 dny

      It's fine. Just make sure to book your lodging in advance (at least before end of year) since you're almost certainly overlapping at least partly with sakura. You already have your dates decided anyway. Once the sakura forecasts are done and people are much more sure of exactly when they will be the prices for those days will increase significantly. Because it's the start of the school year and the transitioning time for businesses/businessmen, elective travel seems to be way down and people are very busy with end of year / start of year things. While most? people will try to find some time to get out and enjoy the sakura, it's just plain a busy time for lots of people. It won't be particularly busy. Just normal busy.

      True silver week doesn't exist in 2025. It doesn't come again until 2026. In 2025 it's a holiday on two consecutive weeks and will therefore only have a minor effect.

    Excellent. Im thinking of spending a week or more in japan in October as transit to kuala lumpur ffom london. How much budget per day and how safe to stay in hostels etc. Why not we swap hosting in london. Thanks.

    • @Toshi-Guide-from-Japan
      @Toshi-Guide-from-Japan Před 5 dny

      The budget also depends on the person. However, dorm room of the cheapest hostel in Tokyo is $15 per day. It's so safe too. I hope you have a god time in Japan.

    • @redfish337
      @redfish337 Před 4 dny

      Hostels are great unless you get a terrible one. They are safe, but remember they're full of foreigners. Not that Japanese people don't steal things- they definitely do. But even the misconception that Japanese people don't steal things doesn't apply- you're staying with foreigners with dozens of different countries' worth of morale codes. The thing I say about Japan is that there's the $1 option, the $10 option, the $100 option and the $1000 option. If you enjoy going to parks and gardens and (the cheaper) museums and walking around the districts and are happy to eat a solid lunch and cheap/cook your own dinner (many places have cheaper lunches- your better meal should be for lunch) you can average something like 4500 yen per day. Which is ~30 USD. If you cook all your meals and just enjoy looking around then it's maybe 20 USD per day. If you stay at a fancy hotel, go to two 3 michelin star restaurants, do some shopping on Omotesando and Ginza, go to an idol concert and buy 40 polaroids with your favorite girls and then go to a hostess club and get bottle service, your high-rolling ways could drop you 3000-10000+ USD in a single day. I once saw a vase sitting out in a store in Ginza for like $10000. Not too far away from a 100 yen shop selling relatively high quality Chinese crap for 70 cents a piece. That's why "budget ... depends on the person" is so true for Japan. If you stay at a hostel in the 2000-3000 yen range, then I recommend about 10000 yen per day including the lodging. This is about 50 quid. This is for most people to have a reasonably fun time, and assumes you'll spend some time going to parks or whatever and not spending a crap ton of money and other days maybe splurging for a fancy meal. It averages out to like 50 quid / 65-70 USD at current exchange rate. But I always recommend having access to an extra 30000 yen or so (200USD/150 GBP) to cover for extra expenses.

      Dontaku is fun. It's during Golden Week. Even Fukuoka doesn't really get all that crazy got GW- it's mostly just Tokyo. April and May are pleasant there too. Just remember that Kyuushuu gets full brunt typhoons much more often so it's even more important to stay out of typhoon season.
