I Wish I Learned These 3 Posture Hacks YEARS AGO
These are 3 movements that I have really enjoyed implementing myself and working on with clients to help improve posture, boost energy levels, relieve back pain and feel more balance in the body. These are relatively unconventional moves, yet all 3 have been much more helpful than simply stretching tightness endlessly.

Neither of you are wrong and yet there is still an issue. Our societies can be dominated by the forces of consumerism where the implicit or explicit promise is "buy this product and you will be better, happier, more capable and more fulfilled without effort". Vivo and Xero may not believe this or ever say it themselves but that's the de facto culture they are part of so unless they shout the opposite loudly it will be our default assumption.

As a few comments have aluded to already, this is an important video even outside the context of feet and footware. Face to face conversation brings about understanding and accommodation and ultimately a more nuanced truth. Our digital and print media get in the way of this natural human interaction so they tend toward antagonism and we very often forget to mitigate these effects. Even in our face to face institutions like government, education and business we have deliberately created processes to dilute the power of conversation and create antagonism - with terrible effects. As several people have said, if systems of government took inspiration from what you're trying to do in this video, our world would be fundamentally better. I enjoyed what both of you had to say but my impression is that Steven dominated the conversation. I think a conversation facilitated by a 3rd party could bring even more benefit to the outcome. That's not a criticism. Just... well done! More people should be doing this.

I'm an inventor and have developed a shoe insert that eliminates/reduces the four main problems of the feet, associated leg and back probles and provides a 17% speed increase for an average runner. If you can leave me a means of sending you my documentation describing the devices, you will learn that they function on two principles - they revise a persons center of gravity providing an increased stride and revise the physical path of the foot by eliminating about 20% of the "S Curve Foot Path" providing the most efficient tracking for the foot. Won't work for a person running on the forefeet. If you then have an interesst in trying the sport device, I'll send you a pair to try out and then return them. My sole interest is learning your thoughts regarding the device. The devices are patent pending.

As someone with Autism who has struggled for years to find clothes that not only fit, but don't feel wrong, Barefoot shoes are a godsend. I ran around the woods barefoot as a kid, now I can get the same feeling anywhere I walk. One downside : they are the opposite of waterproof

Thank you so much for this! I came across it looking for something else but I think this may be a game changer for me! I have HUGE difficulty breathing in humid weather or very cold weather and I can tell my body starts panicking. It’s become overwhelming since moving to the southern USA. I can nearly do anything once it gets near 70 degrees because of the humidity. I’ve always had an issue with freaking out when I think I can’t breathe. I just figured I was too out of shape to exercise ( even though I’m not really overweight) and have been considering getting tested for asthma. I tried someone else’s inhaler a few times and it did nothing though. I think this may be the issue. I also have extremely tight muscles and headaches from that. I’m excited to find and try something that isn’t medication or a complete change of everything in my entire life all at once.😂 If I can breathe, I can excersize again! I can go hiking! I hope this works
.Yay!!!!!!😁 😂

Steven is a very good communicator... my personal experience is that after wearing vibrams I realized that it just made sense to go full barefoot as soon as possible but very slowly and methodically. Minimalist shoes retard enough sensation to inhibit progress in my experience... that being said let me emphasize a slow and methodical approach to running barefoot.

My two golden rules when hiking: 1. Tape your feet at the slightest sense of discomfort. 2. If there are walkers behind you and you reach a track junction, wait for them. You might know where to go but they might not. It is very disruptive if the group becomes separated.

Good quality socks is a great recommendation! In the end though, blisters can still occur. I swear by Leukoplast. Brilliant for protecting against blisters. Tears with fingers and doesn’t need scissors.

Is it normal for pain to increase when you’re starting the exercises in the first few weeks?

  • @koppinjo
    @koppinjo Pƙed 2 dny

It's such a personal thing. I have heard chiropractors, podiatrists, physical therapists, etc. say that minimalist shoes are horrible for you and that they are great for you. I think either CAN be true, just like a knife can be dangerous if you don't know what you're doing. I have been wearing xeros for a year or so now and I love them. I previously had been wearing Brooks Ghost running shoes and being in those for more than a half hour walking around caused severe pain in my heels. With the minimalist shoes I find that I'm distributing my weight over more of my foot and I lock my knees less. I am very intentional in how I take steps and I'm still a work in progress, but my feet always feel better at the end of the day than they did with "normal" shoes. I still wear my regular boots when I'm working a chainsaw or something, but I find that I can walk on anything anywhere with the minimalist shoes and I feel great. Also on the topic of running, when I was in the Brooks shoes, my pace was around 6mph for a comfortable stride/pace. Switching to minimalist shoes I find that 4-5 was more comfortable. I recently just got back up to 6mph in the xeros and it felt amazing - no hip or joint pain like I historically have gotten. Anyway, every company has their own marketing spin (it's got electrolytes!) and I think the best thing we can do as consumers is to support the companies that have great return policies so that we can try things out and see if they'll work for us, and also be willing to concede that everyone has the right to choose what works best for them.

The barefoot shoes have been alive saver for me and I just discover them in the last couple years. I broke my several bones in my midfoot about 12 years ago and had been trying just about every shoe recommended. Most of the podiatrists recommended a thick firm rocker sole type shoe like MBT to help my foot break over. Or a heavily cushioned shoe. And I would have periods when my foot would seem fine, but the pain would always come back. My gait would range from mild discomfort to a heavy limp. During COVID when I spent most of my time indoors barefoot I noticed my foot pain had become non-existent and I saw some foot health videos on CZcams and decided to seek out the minimalist shoes and I've had no problems since. But shoes are relatively cheap and people should keep an open mind and experiment to find what works best for them.

It doesn’t need to be considered religious, it can simply be broadly spiritual. If you see or feel the value of animism, energy/spirits encompassing everything, specifically in nature, then you feel the power of mountains. I think an animistic lens is an excellent way to look at mountains, and that sense of grandeur and connection that one feels can never be truly defined; that is the spiritual connection to mountains in my opinion.

    • @brendansnyder8872

Furthermore, the first time I thought I was feeling or experiencing God was on the top of a mountain at 12,000 or so feet in the Southwestern Rockies when I was 16. Having been raised in a monotheistic household, I categorized it as God, but looking back now I see it to be a pure spirit; it is its own essence. Mount Whitney feels different than Baldy Mountain in New Mexico, as does any mountain. Every mountain feels like it has its own essence.

What would the best shoes for summer be, then, according to you? I live in Italy and in the summer it gets quite warm, so which shoe would you recommend for going in the Alps, with enough grip, but still light enough? Also, being waterproof would be nice, but I suppose I could take 2 different pair of shoes every time. Good video, thank you.

It's brave having you put this out and daring because you are exhibiting two people working through an actual conversation. Wouldn’t it be cool if others in society could do this? What fun would that be? It would be a world where people would have control of their egos. Both of you, at one time or another, called the other out, and both took the criticism in stride (pardon the pun). Great job! Cheers

I've been wearing flip flops or Teva (sandals) for 40 years both are pretty much zero drop and I have Adidas Zero drop for running and have no issues with them, I think you have to transition to suit your own feet. I see people all the punishing themselves because they're following a set rule of transition and hurting, I think if they hurt, just take em off for another day, your body is telling something.

Transitioning to a bare foot stradegy is not an easy think to do . Your feet have been altered from wearing probably poor shoe design from the time you start walking . If you remeber baby shoes of the past they are poorly designed . A decade ago i did some barefoot walking on desert trails . I did do a hike of 4 miles bare foot on the pacific coast trail which has been my farthest. I eventually got away from it and lately i returned . I just do sidewalks and overdid inittially and got some soreness on the bottom of the feet . Reduced the length and doing better . Its so different from walking in shoes . I need to be mindful in my walk as you need to avoid stepping on things like gravel which can be painful . This also makes me walk slower . Its a pleasant experience
