    Covid happened to everybody. In California they closed the forests, beaches and parks…all open land. I still managed to camp at least, probably illegally. Strange hard time that for those who survived have something to tel their grandkids. Home ownership is fine, but don’t let it own you and keep you in one place. Consider it a permanent home base. I appreciate your channel and advise.

    This video in particular is super valuable. I'm no thru-hiker, heck I'm not even a proper hiker. I just like long walks and find the idea of a multi-hike very appealing, so will try it this summer. Most CZcamsrs don't actually go into much depth on the "not so sexy" reality of it all, so appreciate this very much.

    Don't lose your way of living because of the need to get a house or a materialistic way of living. Do the things that make you feel happy. The pressure of getting a house is taking so much energie from me, so I decided to move to the mountains instead. I hope I can try to live with less stuff so I don't have to give all my life to some boss or something 😅

    so many memories watching your video today. I walked my GR11 last year and police officers wouldn't allow me to finish in Cap de Creus(unifinished business as they say) due to fire hazard so I had to swith to the french side, really beautiful there.

    I feel you! To end my 2022 PCT (due to COVID closure) meant walking to the 🇨🇦border, turning around, walking back 2 days & hitching all day to get out to the Seattle border just to get back into Canada. 🙄 Annoying finished to a 4 month hike...
    Anyway, great content as always😊
    P.s. interesting Merrell shoes, would be keen to hear about those if you wanted to do a quick review!

    Hey mate, as a 53 year old I only really delved in depth into the world of youtube during the lockdowns (I'm in Melbourne) and you quickly became a favourite talking head for me. I still enjoy your content but do miss your hiking vids. Your decision to not do annual thru-hikes is totally understandable, though I wonder if you might document the odd little weekender every now and then? Cheers

    Agreed! The ignorance is mind blowing! Hopefully there will be change soon. A major catastrophe is inevitable with those kinds of numbers on the mountain. Climbing Everest today has nothing to do with mountaineering. What can we do to help change?

    Inspired by your GR11 video, I set out to spain in 2021 but got turned away at the Hendaye/Irun boarder due to not having the vaccine docs/QR code too. Ended up doing the GR10 instead. An equally wonderful adventure, but only made it to Merens Les Vals (44/55 stages). Had the opposite problem on the GR11 last year - finished in Albanya due to fire hazards and only did (42/47 stages). Unfinished business sucks... However, you've just inspired me again, will head back to do the last 11 stages of the GR10 at the end of June for closure and as training for doing the Swiss Alpine Pass Route in August. Keep up the great work mate!
    As a note there were no (covid) restrictions on the Spain/France boarders in 2022 and are assumed to have ceased now.

      The door must be only 80cm high! Getting in was a challenge, getting out nearly ended my GR10 at the last hurdle! 🤣
      The water source just down the hill was bone dry (4 June 23). Make sure you tanker from Tangarade/Banyuls.
      The views down to France and the coast on one side and the Spanish plateau on the other on the ridge, after the Auberg, make this a notable stage!
      Awesome.

    Be interested to see how you like the alcohol stove. I tried and in the end I just don't see the point due to needing so much more fuel to even come close to just half the boils you get out of a 110g canister. More logistics too on refuelling since there aren't off the shelf options that conveniently fill those fuel bottles. Isobutane stoves have just gotten too light, efficient, and convenient.

    • @meisjeViv
      @meisjeViv Před rokem

      I went on an overnight with a friend and because of a miscommunication neither of us brought the fuel for the alcohol stove - turns out it works with hand sanitizer as well! Probably not as efficient, but yeah my point is a definite advantage of alcohol stoves is they'll burn anything

    Im actually doing a master thesis on borders, and I definitely agree with your perspective. Especially in Europe, we should be able to guarantee rights and take care of health crises without these limiting border practices. With regards to natural parks, it is even more absurd to divide it, many people living on borders dont experience one area being one national culture and the other an entirely different one, it is often a mixture of many culturee/languages
