Sealink Ferry Sarnia & Caledonian Princess Weymouth Harbour / Weymouth Tramway 16mm Footage - 1970s
A couple of Sealink ferry ships in Weymouth Harbour in the early 1970s together with some footage of a train being walked through the town on the Weymouth Tramway. Shot on 16mm Kodachrome. The ferries were probably on the run to the Channel Islands, Guernsey and Jersey.

A typical coach tour from the 1970s for retirees from Weston-Super-Mare to Scotland (north of Inverness) on a Bakers Coach. Locations include the Lake District, Gretna Green, Aviemore, Inverness, Edinburgh, Newcastle, and Coventry. There are plenty of street scenes. It was taken on colour Kodachrome Super 8 film stock.

Several minutes of rare footage from the 1960 Farnborough Airshow shot on standard 8mm Kodachrome. I’ve removed most of the sections including the aerobatic teams that preceded the Red Arrows because they didn’t differ much from today’s performances. I think there is some footage of a model aircraft club towards the end. Remember to subscribe, because more footage will follow.

It is probably best viewed on a small screen such as a smartphone rather than on a large desktop to get the sharpest image.

Not "early 1970s", but 1976 or later. At 0:25, Weymouth lifeboat 54-04 Tony Vandervell first arrived in Weymouth in 1976, and Caledonian Princess's extra ugly passenger lounge on the boat deck aft (notable at 0:39) together with enclosing the open deck below it, was added during her Immingham refit in April 1976, so this was filmed after May 10th 1976 when Cally P arrived in Weymouth from Immingham. The port sidelight screens on both ships are still red: someone who knows when the rules changed these from red to black will be able to narrow the date to before that change.
Sarnia last sailed from Weymouth on May 24th 1978 (Channel Islands' Railway Steamers by Kevin le Scelleur) after being sold to become Aquamart, so this film was made between May 10th 1976 and May 24th 1978. However, Sarnia has passengers aboard in the film, and the same book records that her last call to Guernsey was an excursion on September 10th 1977, further narrowing the date window.

Thank you for sharing your video. It makes me nostalgic! It is just how I remember our island. Peaceful , serene, very safe, clean, people who respected others , an educated and cultured population with high family values and morals and an island pristinely beautiful in its flora and fauna . In 2022, we have very little of any of this left and crime is off the scale..
I think the big take-away is how smartly dressed everybody was, and how clean everything appears.
