Welcome back
How much money do you think a bow like that is worth
Where did you buy the outfit? It looks great!
Very good Thanks for the instruction and advice.
Wouldn't that violate the grain of the wood ? I'm a bit lost :)
It’s impossible to taper the limbs without violating fibers along the sides. Some amount is ok. The key is to not violate back fibers, especially the strip down the center of the bow. see the back of the bow video for more
@@DanSantanaBows thank you !
seems the linked PDF notes download does not work anymore :(
Ryan gill says that it’s okay for the string to not follow the middle of the bow fully. In fact, he says it’s even better because the arrow will favour one side and fly better on that side compared to if the string was over the middle of the bow the whole way through. Opinion?
Yeah that’s fine but the more you push it the more the limbs will twist on the draw. You don’t really get the same center shot effect as with a big modern handle and a cutout sight window
Woul dbe nice if latin names where listed
see the diagrams
Hi Dan, Do you ever make three ply bowstrings?
With natural fibers. Using synthetics I don’t think it’s worth the extra work
Can you post a video of how you sharpen and hone your drawknives? Your videos are superb! Very classy! Thanks!
Thanks! Check out the drawknife video
Which rope is used?
Paracord, or ideally real bowstring. See my full videos for tutorials. This is just an overview

@@DanSantanaBows thanks so much
@@edward50007 also if you want a bow like this i have a couple of tutorials for pvc specifically. the channel is mainly about wooden bows though
Is there any measured advantage to fletch an arrow to cause it to spin while in flight ??
Of course or else olympic archers wouldn’t use them. This has been measured countless times but the effect is very obvious if you shoot arrows that are not perfectly spined without fletchings. Also if you progressively increase fletching size you can see a clear trend.
Hey Dan love your videos could you maybe do another tutorial about how to make bows more details please ❤❤❤ keep up the good work
Workin on it!
How short of a bow can you build?… with decent poundage? Would love to see a video on that!
You can go very short with very high draw weights. Just look at crossbow prods. The trouble is getting both of those things and a full draw length. Most historical short bow designs didn’t use a full draw length with an anchor
@@DanSantanaBows a friend of mine built me a self bow at 54” and I use it at my full draw length of 28”. Was curious if you could go shorter :-). I love the 58” - 60” mark. Long designs are hard to hunt in the woods with. Keep the videos coming. Love your channel.
I did the same thing making my own stamps but for use on plate armor. My first one was made on accident as i had some screws in my dishing stump I didn't notice which applied a pattern then when formed on my soft mild steel very slight dish it had imparted a cool pattern. That is when I realized i could make stamps too but for metal lol.
تكفي ياخالد بن الوليد الله يعزه عنك
what?
Is the spacing between each fletching extremely important?
Mostly aesthetic at close range. For long range it matters more but if your arrows spin much the effect cancels out
Can arrows be made from Greenwood?
They will warp as they dry, but at least drying arrows is much faster than bow staves. see my arrow tutorials for more in depth videos
Great tutorial, awesome cinematography and craftsmanship.
Dan a video of how you built your bench top shaving vise would be very helpful. Have you already made one? If not, would you?
you can see how it fits together in the older video on workholding methods
I’ll probably screw up if I try to make the same arrows
Do you have any recommendations for scaling down the size for kiddos? I have a bunch of old polypropylene tubing from making hula hoops years ago
The best quick bow making wood i ever found was hackberry in texas. Within 3-4 weeks i had great finished bows from a green live tree i chopped down, only air dried after splitting in the Texas climate.
Hackberry and elm are both super tolerant of this. Great stuff
Now I need to know how to make one that you can do with bare hands and no tools
I will say, dont ever use pine, it snaps no matter what you do with it
You can make pine bows but you have to go about twice as wide or half the draw weight. It’s obviously not recommended but people do it to prove the point
Unfassbar wieviel Arbeit im Mittelalter für nur einen Schuss notwendig war
Imagine with stone tools!
Hey just wondering if u put fiberglass inside of the PvC does it help with durability?
No this a bad design the core is the worst place to put high density working material
I find a big dehumidifier, 3 days, and a closed room to work great.
Great video, welcome back!
Nice video! Does it matter if the back is white or red? I noticed some logs have multiple layers of sapwood, but they almost melt into the red.
Don’t worry about the color, just keep the violation to a minimum if you can
@DanSantanaBows Thanks, I'll give it a try.
where do you get your silk wrap
Zwicky brand
@@DanSantanaBows thanks also i would love to see you try traditional English longbow arrows
Thqank you so much for the Video and the downloadable notes and diagrams. I really love them. Im doing such notes and diagrams for my bushcraft projects too. Unfortunately I am very bad at drawing.
It gets better! I started like that. When I started restoring fountain pens for fun I naturally got in a lot more practice
Excellent craftsmanship
How do you end the wrap on the fletch? A spot of hot glue???
a serving knot like this czcams.com/video/0hwQiKAWl2k/video.htmlsi=Mid269vZ83FnkykH
Great content as always! Glad to see a new video!!
Try composite asiatic bows
Maybe one day. My specialty is self bows. I don’t even like adding a simple backing
Dan. One day I will buy a hand made bow and a bunch of arrows from you. In the meantime, I am re-inspired and in complete admiration for your tool rests (like the chisels rest). I love the organic form and flow. And now with a couple of "chicken of the woods" whatever they are called fungi. What a brilliant idea!
Where have you been man? It's great to see you
I thought my man was dead
😢 make bone arrowhead
Will do!
Dan, i loved this i too like cane or bamboo shafts.
❤❤❤
Hello Dan, why that fletching looks different, whats the use of fletching in this way??
They’re larger because i don’t need much range and wanted arrows that are easier to see on video. They look different from target, hunting, or competition flight arrows because they’re for recreational aerial shooting
Beautiful arrows, beautiful sounds. I'm currently working on another set of arrows and endeavouring to keep a short bow alive, steaming has been a great help. Good practise for the recurve bow I shall make in due course.
I have had it with a few of my current recurve projects! It can be such a hassle to get the tips aligned, especially with character wood
@@DanSantanaBows In that case I'd better do it eventually, perhaps. :-)
You took us flying with your arrows!!!! and Marcos music helped enjoy the trip
