This is where I upload an occasional vlog. I talk about anything, but lately I talk about food to complement my Mobile Home Gourmet video channel. I use this channel when unboxing something I ordered, such as my Janome 9850 sewing machine. I tailor my own shirts; so, sometimes I vlog about that. Anything goes here.
My 73rd Birthday
I wanted to say something about my 73rd birthday because I bought myself an expensive birthday present without planning to. No regrets. I really like what I purchased. And I can add that I am not receiving anything for my making this video. I'm doing it because I wanted to. It's my birthday.

UPS broadsided my attempt at chaffles

I was disappointed when my new waffle maker was damaged by UPS shipping. I was initially excited about the prospect of making my first chaffles. Those will need to wait until a better waffle maker arrives. On the bright side, returns to Amazon are even easier now. I brought the item to the UPS Store with a VR code and they took care of everything.

Embroidery Demonstration on my new Janome 9850

I have a new sewing machine (replacing a Brother that failed) and I thought I'd do an embroidery demonstration, but not using one of the patterns that come with the machine. I paid a company - 123Digitizing.com - to digitize my design in a format compatible with my machine. They did an excellent job. You can see for yourself how well the pattern turned out.

In which I unbox my new Janome Memory Craft 9850 sewing and embroidery machine and talk a little about it (and a little about myself). I bought it from Costco to replace a Brother XR3340 that finally failed. A sewing machine repairman friend said the Brother wouldn't last long and he recommended the Janome as a good replacement.

A friend gave me a sewing machine his wife didn't need. There was one part missing, which I was able to order online. These old machines were well built. Millions are still in use today; therefore, parts are still available. Besides showing the simple installation of the replacement part, I talk a little about my other machines.

I bought this sausage stuffer for myself as a birthday present because I am taking an interest in making my own sausages again. With a simple and relatively inexpensive device like this, stuffing sausages is easy. For this demonstration I used collagen casings along with pork shoulder, pork belly fat, and some packaged bratwurst seasoning mix. The result was delicious sausages.

Thanks Nancy. I'm going without the sling today. One web site says I can stop using it after a few days. Full recovery can take up to three months, but most activities can be resumed after about two weeks. So, I'm doing okay so far. Thanks again. -Dennis

I caught that very quick comment about your dad’s demise - so sorry. It must have impacted your life and that of your mother and brother in devastating ways. Grief is such an overwhelming and life-altering reality. I just lost a very special someone myself, and the grief overshadows everything. I hope the memory of your dad’s passing has become somewhat muted as the years have passed. I have a much easier method. Get a can of pate cat food, or a jar of all-meat baby food. Already very finely minced or pureed. I use a plastic container food came in. Mix borax with boiling water until it's all dissolved and the water's clear. Only maybe a teaspoon of water to less than half a teaspoon of borax. Mix well with cat or baby food. Cut several triangular holes into container near top. Put bait on lid, and place container over it. You can use a rock to hold it down, or put a plant pot over it so no animals can get to it. The ants here have no interest in Terro or sugar either.

Didn’t mix well, didn’t work better than borax sugar and water.
Put your dog's food dish in a larger dish with some water in the bottom. The ants won't cross the water to get to the food dish, but the dog / cat can still eat.

About chopping the meat up fine: would one of those chicken or tuna cans work? They are chopped up and usually fall apart quite easily

To me, the trick would be keeping pets away from the chicken.
Cover packet with heavy planter or ceramic bowl. Tape it down if needed. Place a 1/2 inch square of cardboard under rim so ants can get underneath.
The cardboard thing was taught to me while I was in the Cub Scouts back in the 70s. You really don’t need to shred the cardboard. You can basically roll them out and put them in a tuna can and add wax. I’ll probably do something like that soon just to recycle some wax.
Why not put both sugar and fat in the same packet? Does this work outside? I dont hae ants i side, but they are terrible outside- big & small, black & red, several types of nests- cant stand still in my yard!!

Food grade silicone grease sold by restaurant supply houses is your friend.
well I'm pretty sure the ants I'm dealing with are sugar... they are very small ants and are attacking my honey container.... I diligently keep the outside wiped off and my kitchen spotless... yet they STILL knew the honey was there... craazy!
Just use Borax laundry additive instead of that toxic insecticide. It is as effective and much safer.

Never knew about the two types of ants. I wonder if you mix hot water, sugar, and chicken. then mix the boric acid in a small plastic cup. Leave it out on a cap. wonder if both types of ants would go for it??
