I saw this when a 5-VHS package 'Healing and the Mind' had to be purchased to play the one 'The Mystery of Chi/Qi' on a VCR, but I have not found the one full episode on CZcams. Then & now I wish Bill Moyers had tried to push against the master himself.

I don't exactly doubt that something like this might be possible, but this is not it. At most the old 'master' is a highly skilled manipulator of people. The shaking hand is simply the signal he gives the 'student' to begin acting. The 'students' probably cooperate out of a sense of respect, belonging to an 'exclusive' group, or some other thing. It would be interesting to know how the psychological dynamic plays out in a situation like this. The American kid with the long hair came all the way to china to do this. How foolish would he feel if he admitted to himself or others after recognizing that it's a sham. Especially by people like perhaps his family and friends, that probably pleaded for him not to go as he defended his position to them saying something like "You just don't understand! You'll see I'm right!".

I disagree with your view. What you see as rigid, I see as fajin (power discharge). I've tried this form, and I can tell you it's hard to generate the power shown here.

Check out "ny wu tang sparring" videos. They have continuous sparring using real kung fu techniques, it's very impressive.

Yi chuan stances and postures are not correct(just comparing it to my two teachers). His root seems like it is not so strong. I think he got a piece of Yi chuan just like Japanese did not get the real karate from Okinawa. Why would you share something fully with the people who killed your brothers. Hence the reason we have modern wu shu. Do you think the real gong fu men just handed the secrets over to the enemy? No!

Sawai visited Master Wang during time of the Japanese invasion thus it would be considered treasonous for Master Wang to teach his art to the enemy. On the other hand, it would be hugely embarrassing for the Chinese martial arts community to sputter false teachings as Sawai who is an expert in his own right would pick up on it. In that sense, Sawai had the benefit of at least hearing the related theories and concepts even if he wasn't taught how to attain them.

I dont think the Chinese masters taught him how to develop the neijing Yi Chuan uses. The way his body reacted (not song) when he blocked some of his students attack showed that it was external. He has good body mechanics and movements but didnt develop the neijing ball that kinda responds like a spring. I dont doubt his martial prowess though

its not about asskicking, its about protecting and selfdefense.
