    Just find your video now. Super interesting. on a side note i wonder if you identify an optimal pole lengh for DB. With the usual 83% classic lenght, i always find the core fall a bit too much, and the fluidity suffer from it...

    A few tips from years of roller skiing: After many sessions the carbide in the ferrules may get a little loose as the plastic deforms. Sten Fjeldheim taught us to drip a bit of super glue down along the carbide and plastic. free a wet session, I agree with Mr. Newell’s treatment, but I also like to rip a bit of moisture displacement lube like T9 or WD 30 on the bearing and shaft to get rid of water, and then wipe off any excess. I find it prolongs the life of the bearings.

    Something I have practiced on classic roller skis to try and make sure I am kicking down rather than back: When I kick I want to have the front wheel of the non-kicking ski leave the pavement briefly as I click down with the other ski under me. I think this means I am fully weighting and kicking on the one ski, and not cheating by pushing back with the “perfect wax” that the classic ski clutch provides. Any thoughts or comments?

    • @xski
      @xski Před 4 měsíci

      Yes, I like your thoughts in this. Good idea. I have found one indicator of a downward kick versus a late kick is the arm swing. We always want our kick to happen at the lowest point of the arm swing. If your arm is moving upward while you are trying to kick it forces the kick behind us and away from the wax pocket. So even if you are climbing a hill and your arms are in front of you, the kick can still happen at the low point to prevent kicking backward. Thanks for your ideas!

    Nowadays only the "first" type of DP is considered good technique. It's the only way to make double-poling NOT a killer of your lower back. You want your hands to decide when the upper body comes back into position for the next stroke: When your Hands pass the hips - your upper body comes back up. It's about timing.

    When I was a really small kid I watched World Cup long time before I tried CC Skiing myself. The effect was I got to grips with basics of techinque like diagonal stride etc. real fast, at least that's what the coach told me, all that because you know how you're supposed to look like, so I guess it really works

  • @thibod07

    Very informative video! I am not sure if I understand what you are saying about the impact of having relaxed shoulders and arms on setting the wax properly on the snow. My other question is about the preloading of the ski by scooting first the foot a little forward before bringing it back slightly and applying full pressure on the snow for the wax pocket to grip the snow, I will to try it. Do your students really understand that? Wow! They are very smart! 🤔🤔🤔 I am not sure if I fully understand it. I always believed that keeping your hips as far forward as possible was the best way to insure a good grip when applying pressure on your skis! Thank you for that great video! It surely makes us think!

    • @xski
      @xski Před rokem

      Hi Marc, the relaxed shoulder helps provide downward force when paired with a well timed kick. The initiation on the kick will happen when the arm/hand swings through at its lowest point. Tense shoulder ls equal tense kick, and more slips. You are correct that the pre loading of the kick (toe scoot) will help the skier kick with full body weight underneath their center of mass. Which will create more power.. and also less slips:)

  • @igorpiasecki7909
    @igorpiasecki7909 Před rokem

    1. Would you recommend to do this also on rollerskis? 2. If so, should I also start on flat, then hills? I tend to feel I'm picking up speed way to fast on pancake flat terrain to keep striding on and on. Cause otherwise It could be a matter of poor balance for me like many skiers have with V2 and V2 alternative when skating or simply poor technique of me, since I live in a very flat terrain and most of my sessions on rollers are double polling but I want to work on my technique.

    • @xski
      @xski Před rokem

      Yes i would try this on rollerskis too. Maybe flat or gradual uphill would be the beat terrain

    Andy- so often there is emphasis on getting the foot forward, but in this no pole work, the rear foot very clearly is not coming far forward- is it even possible without poles, and how does that change with poles?

    • @xski
      @xski Před rokem

      Hi Leslie, i think i track your question. When striding i like to think about the leg swing itself providing a lot of forward momentum. Think pendulum swing. Thinking about a dynamic leg swing is usually more beneficial than thinking about driving or sliding the leg/foot forward. For the sake of this drill we are working in small margins. Just focused on the pre load of the kick
