Inspired, not retired
We left the working world about 5 years ago, moved from New York City to our home in East Hampton, got a place in Bangkok and now spend about 9 months in Asia and 3 in the States living life to the fullest! We started this CZcams channel to share our experiences and hope it may serve as an inspiration for those of you contemplating a life change. We hope you enjoy the journey, however unconventional it may be!

Where West Meets East in Khao Lak, Thailand
In this 4th video in our Southern Road Trip series we leave behind the April heat of Bangkok for the fabulous beaches of Southern Thailand.
We planned to stop in Khao Lak since we knew it had a surfing beach and while it was not yet surfing season we did want to get a feel for the vibe and scope it out for future reference.
In this video we decided to take refuge at the luxurious JW Marriott in Khao Lak perched on a pristine beach overlooking the Andaman Sea. We spent an afternoon at Memories Beach to check out the surf scene. Back at the resort we had some of the best Thai food we’ve ever had in Thailand (and that’s saying something as we have been coming to Thailand for over 30 years and have lived in Bangkok for most of the last 3 years as card carrying foodies!).
Join us as we share the experience of resort living at its finest. While this isn’t our typical style of travel it proved to be a relaxing stop, especially since it was off-season. Given the family friendly orientation we suspect it would be unbearable for couples during high season.

Wow 🤩 We enjoyed beach life with you guys! Beautiful and Relax!!♪
Thanks Maybe one day we can enjoy it together🫰
Feels so refreshing to be entertained by gifted vloggers from my generation. And fine drone shots! Count me subscribed.
Thank you so much for the kind words.
Very popular views about global situations with little wise thinking and limited knowledge.
Quite the contrary...
Love this so much!! Thank you for sharing ❤ Miss you,, Cheers
Glad you are enjoying the videos. You'll have to come experience it for yourselves. Miss you too!
Would have been 12.00 a night a few years ago
Yeh… my home
You are very lucky to live in such a beautiful place. I hope it stays that way.
Love it. Awesome side of thailand!!
It was island living as it should be. ... no cars, no big resorts, no mass tourism.
👏👏👏
🤗
So beautiful ❤
Thank you!
Nice, I just discovered your channel. Love the commentary about the community and their lives. It will be great if you can show food options by the resort and around the vicinity
Glad you found us and thanks for the compliments! Funny you should mention the lack of food commentary because virtually all our other videos are food heavy. When we stay at the 2 resorts in Prachuap Kiri Khan we don't leave the place. The food at the resorts in good and we have many opportunities in our travels to eat more "local" fare elsewhere. That said there is a small town nearby that I'm sure has good options.
We want to go to the riverside seafood restaurant! Wow look nice! Cheers😁😁🍹
The food at that restaurant was fabulous. I'd go back to Ranong just to eat there again! I also want to go back and get the recipe for that lobster and egg in steamed milk ... it was outrageously good
Sounds sooo delicious😁😁
Ranong doesn't have anything outstanding like other provinces in the country. But it is the place where I intend to retire. That's because I love nature and polite, kind people.
While the city of Ranong is somewhat underwhelming there's a lot of natural beauty and cool stuff in the area. We loved the entire Andaman coast from Ranong to Thai Mueang Beach (we turned inland after that) and agree it's a good retirement option. You might also want to check out the Khanom Beach/Sichon area. Except in the heavily touristed areas where the locals have been compromised by the relentless assault of tourists we find the Thai people to be polite and kind everywhere we go. Probably the best thing about Thailand.
@@unconventionaljourney I'm Thai and I lived there 5 years ago. Khanom-Sichon coast That area is my home province. Because Ranong is a simple, not chaotic city with waterfalls, mountains and the sea. So I like it there. Now I live in Bangkok. and plan to move there when everything is ready
Good luck with your transition to retirement!
❤ very nice
Thank you! Cheers!
You are very cool and fit Paula! Hope you have a good summer of 2024
Wow Beautiful beach and villa!🤩 We enjoy traveling with you two!
That is our favorite beach and villa so far. Thank you for the encouraging words😀
Beautiful! Love your videos ❤
Thank you!
THanks Becky. Miss you already!
Fantastic Villa! Love your videos...still wish for a few more costs...it would really help me as I am about a year out from leaving USA! Glad to see you enjoying your retirement abroad.... Keep the good time coming!
Thank you again for the kind words. We didn't track costs but we'll see what we can get from our credit cards and try to remember to track costs going forward.
You two are getting really good at this,,, miss you ♥
Thank you for the kind words. It's a steep learning curve but we're having fun messing about with this CZcams thing. You guys should come here and we'll make a video of the adventure!
Nice video. Also, great to see you again at the recent RW4U meet-up. 🙏🏻
Thank you and good to see you the other night too. Catch you at Chris's next one!

We appreciate your encouraging comments.

Your videos keep getting better and better.
Thank you!
You bought a big car! We really enjoy beautiful road trip with you!
Thank you 🤗
while beeing in the area you should have considered to visit koh jum. no masses of people there.
Passed right by it but wanted to see Krabi after not being there for 30 years. Hindsight is 20/20😁
Nice
Looks like Central Park in NYC!🤩 the first morning breakfast is nice, interesting!👍
Except it's cleaner and safer 😉 And yes, that breakfast was amazing. Makes my mouth water just thinking about it 😋
Super cool
Beautiful Art community....love all the graffiti and evening lights!
There are actually many surfing beaches on Taiwan's east coast but you need to ask the locals first because some of the beaches are actually bordering deep underwater cliffs. There is an annual international surfing competition that is held on rotating spots.
The locals we spoke to mentioned the same thing ... you need to be mindful of the flukey currents at some of the east facing beaches.
Wow hot spring! I love it 😊✨
So nice to have a hot spring in our hotel bathroom!
What gorgeous mountains the national park! Wow beautiful! We really enjoyed the interview with Adam, too🤩🤩
The Taiwanese countryside was unexpectedly awesome. Thanks for the compliment on our interview with Adam ... it was fun to share our story. Cheers!
02:56 This is from the 50's-60's. Keelung Port had many US troops stationed here. In order to cater to the tastes of the US military, local ingredients were used to develop sandwiches that were different from the West.
Love your journey...Taiwan looks amazing!
Taiwan is truly an amazing place as I hope comes through in these videos.

Beautiful ❤ I never visited Taiwan 🇹🇼 Good questions you asked the local Taiwanese guy at the temple 👍🏻 Nice meeting both of you at EM SPHERE Mall in Bangkok this afternoon 😊
Great meeting you too and thanks for the kind words. Taiwan is an amazing place that doesn't get the respect it deserves as a travel destination. If you're interested check out some of the other videos in our Taiwan Series. The first one, Mission Taiwan, is pretty funny🤗 Hopefully our paths will cross again🙏
Love the video....wonderful adventure!
