A short video showing the VLF signals I received in the 20 kHz range. Also included a sample of the 60 kHz time signal used by many household clocks / radio clocks and other devices. Below are links to information on two of the Navy VLF signals I recorded. My receiver is an SDR-IQ coupled to a Pixel Magnetic loop antenna. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Creek_Naval_Radio_Station en.wikipedia.org/wiki...

AT&T Long Lines site - Saddle Mountain, Oregon
zhlédnutí 3,5KPřed 12 lety
Recent visit I made to the South Saddle Mountain hardened AT&T Long Lines site outside of Forest Grove, Oregon. This was once a hardened or resistant to a nuclear blast long lines installation. I had been in a few discussions about this site but was never able to locate until recently. Very neat Cold War site to visit. From what I understand this site linked Portland, Oregon to other sites arou...

The stroker is a good machine, especially in smaller wood that you’re only taking down to a certain top size; you can grab multiple stems for faster production. Definitely more complicated to move from job to job and has more moving parts.
Feel sorry for skidder operator
That looks interesting 👍🏼 Never seen that setup before.
I'm picking it up in Florida with a ground steak antenna very weak but I got it. The antenna is two steaks 8 foot in the ground 200 feet apart.
Pile didn't get much bigger in a minute my guy ?
You get what you pay for. Next time hire a lowbed Driver one who knows what he’s doing.
Loaded under one of these. Love them
Well, this gets the stupid shit inefficiency award. Holy shit. Send that piece of crap to the scrapper... 1 tiny log at a time...
So if I read this correctly , bob needs to call home as soon as they get top side?
I like the fact that he isn’t sawing the butts of so he can start Measuring.
The bunch your making, isn't supposed to lay all over the bunch behind the one you making wtf
Saddle Mountain had links to Tillamook (via a reflector), McMinnsville, Amity, Nicolai, and Livingston Mountain, WA.
Eric Svalland so how exactly does a reflector work?
Ok never mind I’m just stupid, a reflector doesn’t literally reflect the signal, it just reflects it coming out of the waveguide at a 90 degree angle
love all the wispy shit you lay in with the bundles lol.
Hi how are you doing
High stump logging company.i aint never
Which 'mode' do you use for the 24 KHz signals? USB? LSB? CW? Any particular filtering?
cw
It looks more complicated than a processing head
I’d hate to be a skidder man pulling off of you
What grapple is that
59.6 KHz. Isn't that WWVB??
no it is at 60khz
Where is this shot looks like my neck of the woods
they are probably not running a skidder my guess would be a yarder with high lead if you don't know what your talking about david gokey keep your mouth shut what kind of name is that anyway i would hate to have that name see works the other way to you negative scumbag
Would hate to be skidder driver on that job with them high stumps
i know it is kind of randomly asking but does anybody know a good site to stream newly released series online ?
@Yehuda Damari I use flixzone. Just search on google for it :)
@Steven Noah Yea, have been using FlixZone for since april myself =)
@Steven Noah Thank you, I signed up and it seems like a nice service :) I appreciate it!
@Yehuda Damari you are welcome =)
It is good that they clean up after the logging operation, I wish everyone would do it
this equipment is great can really move the timber
Good loadoftimber on the truck
great equipmment and good wood
Not stuck, just needed a little help.
Coming from running a south star dangle head running one of these would be painful haha. I could run circles around it
Agreed!
They both have their place. We own both, dangle heads and stroker
I've run log max, waratah, and currently southstar and I agree. Only thing this has is lots of reach. But it is sloooooooow
Yeah and you can’t fell with it either. But the 622B does struggle with big wood.
Does that gp have the big feed roller motors, I would think that 2800 has enough oil to run the big ones. Just curious thanks
good afternoon my friend, congratulations on the video I also have a Heathkit LG-1 RF Signal Generator more I know how to make it generate the exemplary signal in 600khz, but I do not know how to calibar coils of old radios, I put a capacitor of 47-100 pf, on the f.i of the radio, and a multimeter ac on the loudspeaker. my generator did not come with pluge cable, soldered a wire on the + connector If you can help me, I'd appreciate it.
What's this on the boom have we all of a sudden decided that 300' is a safe distance now, or is it because everyone wants to go 'metric' now. I have seen 'dodgy' trees do a 'domino effect' and you definitely want to be back 500' especially if the tops snap off and head in a different direction.
what a mess, skidders would kill me if that was my job
I run an old 320B with a Denharco limber and it still does good for an old girl. I'd love to try that new machine
That is not a FD750
You my friend win the prize.
Tell me its not a Southstar hat.
They fit pretty nice. Although I never got a SouthStar decal.
why not go with a fixed head?
easier on the boom of the machine to use a dangle. plus waratahs are way faster anyway
Hey Bud, I also have the unit on the Left. Do they have any value or practical use?
No not really. They can be useful for tuning and troubleshooting older receivers but there is much better equipment available on the surplus market now.
Value wise maybe $10 to $30 depending on condition.
Interesting. So it is actually a piece of test gear ? I find it all very fascinating. I have some Tube Heathkit Multimeters set up next to my digital and its pretty neat.
I bet you on Etsy or Pininterest they might bring more. Those hipsters and such like cool looking retro items as room art etc.
You have a good point there. The one on the left is a WW2 aircraft receiver frequency calibration test unit. The silver receiver on the right is would be calibrated with the unit on the left.
Hey Chipensaw, I picked up a trailer load of electronics and this Heathkit LG-1 unit was in it. I am a guitar player and have been wanting to be able to tech my own old tube amps for a long time and learn to trouble shoot other types of electronics. Is this unit useful to me or not? Here is some of the stuff I have.
who to hell running this thing the salesman? needs some training. anyone can cut a tree. take little pride in u work bozo. I'd be embarrassed if my work looked like that.
First day, new machine, new head. Give the op a break.
Oh yeah and fly by wire controls not pilot like he was used too.
FIRST OFF WHY IS HE STARTING AT THE FRONT OF THE UNIT!? SHOULD ALWAY START IN THE BACK!
David Gokey looks like a nervous first time operator on a relatively new machine .Deere staff ,and owner probably watching
Tyler Roy if I was on a skidder on that job we would have to have a talk about those tall stumps I have operated s wheel machine and a track machine and I have never been that inconsiderate of my skidder men
i think we should just get rid of these machines go to chainsaws instead. main reason is because it would create jobs for alot of people instead of a one man opperation that can clear about 1 acres of trees a day. sure this is a faster way to do it but creating jobs is more important
10 acres*
It's also way more dangerous to have guys out there. That's the main reason why almost everyone uses these now because when these machines get hit with a tree the operator just goes home but if a tree fell on the guy he wouldn't be going home at all most likely. Safety First...
He would probably - but in a box!!!!
Get the chainsaw idea out of here
we cut timber with saws all day everyday. yarding is so different than this ground skid stuff. safety is always number 1 then production.
Though to be technical it's an MF beacon. HF is 3 to 30 MHz.
So isn't this double work now ? Wouldn't a feller de-limber be more efficient ? And you astill have to have a transport to navigate those taller stumps. Now these questions come from a guy who love's machinery, but hasn't a clue about this kind of logging.
Not a logger, but done some reading. It'd gonna depend on how many people you've got on the crew and how much lumber you're cutting. A harvester that's fells and delimbs is way more expensive to start, so issue one. Secondly if you have the crew and resources, having another machine or machines running at the same time processing the lumber, means the guy cutting is only cutting. Having separate operators doing separate task will in the end produce more processed lumber in a given amount of time, then having one operator doing multiple tasks. Yes you have to handle the tree more times, and certainly overall cost of the operations is higher (1 really expensive machine vs 3+ kinda pricey machines), but the production can be a lot higher as a harvester will never cut as much wood as a dedicated felling machine will.
Nice head and machine
Hope you are good friends with your grease gun
What size screens?
Great video man! what do some of the log loaders have different cabs?
Side entry and rear entry. All new machine will be rear entry only starting with the new models 3156G replacing the 2954D and 3756G replacing the 3754D. Rear entry cabs are safer for entering and exiting. Road builders and short boom processors will remain side entry as they have no cab risers.
+chipensaw Thanks man! I appreciate it!
verry cool
this reminds me of the orgazma-gizmo-mit-action-pumpo
That head works very well! Good video!
Nice machine, just needs a operator
Andrew Dorcas I own the deere and the quadco products in identical application on jd bunchers. The cost of ownership of a deere fr24 is far and above the quadco. parts availability fir quadco is much better and the heads are much more reliable.
Andrew Dorcas I agree
PL&T inc. And ?????
The machine was one day old that day.
I've run em ,there no tigercat!
Picking up the logs.
