Billy Murray - College Life (1906)

This version of College Life by Billy Murray hasn't yet been uploaded to CZcams. Written by Hery Frantzen in 1905, this 1906 cylinder recording by Billy Murray is the most popular version of the song. Chronicling the antics of college students in the early 20th century, it amazes me how many of these behaviors can still be observed in modern college students, like staying up all night, playing ...

Arthur Brown- Fire!!!!!
As one who practically strictly listens to this era, I’m glad to see such a fine presentation of his contributions to early recording. Murray certainly was a game changer defining some of the earliest aspects of how recording was done. I didn’t know he sold over 300 million records, but those 6-10,000 recordings are nearly on par with his counterparts from the 1890s which is something to behold, because in a single decade you’ll find that people like George J. Gaskin and George Washington Johnson recorded nearly 20,000 individual recordings due to the very limited processes of recording in that age.
They really roll their r's this decade haha! This is a great video thank you <3
WE ARE MAKING IT OUT OF THE STEAMBOAT WITH THIS ONE! 🗣🔥💯
Listened to these songs on the radio as a younger person. They are true gold. Will always seek them out as they are superior to what's churned out nowadays ❤❤❤❤❤
My great grandfather listened to music in the 30s and his dad sung the songs from the 1910s. But not the normal songs. He sung songs in the trenches where he probably listened to a lot of war songs. I fell so bad for hint because in a book he described the war as bloody and brutal and terrible. He fought on the British side and he got the Victoria cross.

Dusty is my all-time favorite pop music singer so, for me, every recording of hers is a #1. That said, there are of course objective ways of measuring hits. Using Billboard's 200 chart (UK), the video here includes only four of what were actually Dusty's biggest hits: You Don't Have To Say You Love Me, I Only Want To Be With You, All I See Is You and Son Of A Preacher Man. Excluded are What Have I Done To Deserve This, I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself, I Close My Eyes And Count To Ten, In The Middle Of Nowhere, Some Of Your Lovin', and Losing You. Of the six that were included that were not the highest-charting, Wishin' And Hopin' was not released in the UK, but did chart at #6 in the US. Stay Awhile and I'll Try Anything peaked at #13 on the UK charts. All Cried Out was not released in the UK and peaked at #41 on US charts. The Look Of Love was not released in the UK and peaked at #22 on US charts. And The Windmills Of Your Mind was not released in the UK and peaked at #31 on US charts. So, technically, Dusty's Top Ten are the ten listed below. The numbers in parentheses indicate the peak chart position in the UK for each single. 1. You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me (1) 2. What Have I Done To Deserve This (with The Pet Shop Boys) (2)* 3. I Just Don’t Know What To Do With Myself (3) 4. I Close My Eyes And Count To Ten (4) 5. I Only Want To Be With You (4) 6. In The Middle Of Nowhere (8) 7. Some Of Your Lovin’ (8) 8. Losing You (9) 9. All I See Is You (9) 10. Son Of A Preacher Man (9) *If you don't include What Have I Done To Deserve This (based on it technically being a Pet Shop Boys single), then the tenth for Dusty is: Goin’ Back (10) In the US, her singles that made Top Ten on Billboard 200 are: What Have I Done To Deserve This (2) You Don’t Have To Say You Love me (4) Wishin’ and Hopin’ (6) Son Of A Preacher Man (10)
He was 24 bloody years old when he made this recording!!! I practiced for years and years, got a "Master" of Music and couldn't do the things this guy did. Marvelous!!!
was my dad's nickname from childhood , over time i came to suspect my grandmother picked that up from the movie of the same name . she even had him in that busterbrown type haircut in his preteens . turns out to be a bittersweet memory of their lives , but , in the end , i believe they've made their peace and for me , that's what this song is about .
goatgoatgoat starting over must be in 1#

The true roots and origins of Rock ‘N Roll is from Boogie Woogie and Stride piano, the Fathers and Mothers are James P. Johnson,Willie Lion Smith,Fats Waller,Luckey Roberts,Rosetter Tharpe,Mary Lou Williams, and Louis Jordan,Bar-Non there maybe others but these are the top,Boogie Stride piano, jump blues, and gospel music is what truly gives rise and the birth of Rock ‘N Roll, and it all starts in the 1920’s and pasted on from one generation to the next, from prohibition, then the depression, then WW2,the only dance that was popular in the 20’s was the Jitterbug and theCharleston, the 30’s was Big Band Ballroom Jazz dancing, the 40’s everything changed, the 50’s is the highlight the time of teenage rebellion Hot Rod racing and the rest is history.
Thank you so much💖💃🎸🕺

My wife and I used to sing this to our grandchildren back in the early sixties when they were in middle school. Back then, it was called Junior High School, of course. They've all passes since then, sadly. I'm remarried now and my wife and I just welcomed our third child together, one of each.
i would add Boys 2 Men, Motown Philly (East Coast Family), i would add Shai in there, and also that bobby brown song from ghostbusters OST. my personal fav is bell bev devoe and al b sure nite and day.
My Opinion 1. Johnny B Goode 2. You Never Can Tell 3. Maybellene 4. Roll Over Beethoven 5. Sweet Little Sixteen 6. My Ding-A-Ling 7. No Particular Place To Go 8. School Days 9. Run Rudolph Run 10. Rock n Roll Music
2024 who’s still listening?
I said I didn't like soul music, but I like to go back to tje early 60s the early Motown sounds, group that didn't make it. But I love listening one hit songs.😊
