I've always love ragtime music, especially Joplins. Thank you for the beautiful view into the history of his life.
You're very welcome Veronica! It's great to see that a fan of ragtime enjoyed this video.
Thank you for this he deserves to be in my 40s of musicians
You're very welcome! He would be a great addition to that collection.
Great! Thanx! ❤
I would like to know an in-depth history of what/who were his music influences outside his mother and father
You are a godsend. Thank you for the video in particular and the channel in general.
Thank you so much for your kind words Rohan! This put a smile on my face
Thank you from Morocco.
You're welcome! Greetings from Minnesota!
I has been wainting this video for a lot of time
I hope you enjoy it 😁
One note on pronunciation for Texarkana ... Watch 'Smokey and the Bandit' ... Burt Reynolds and the other actors say 'Texarkana' correctly and fairly early into the film. Otherwise, this is very good content. Talent really is timeless. It's great that Edison really went after so many of the late 1800s artists like Joplin and got them them recorded as the medium improved. The photograph of Billy Murray on the far left at 7:39 really really really looks like James Cagney in 'Roaring 20s'.
According to Ed Berlin by 1908 he sold over 500,000 copies of Maple Leaf Rag in the us alone, so it’s possible he was indeed the first composer to sell over 1 million copies of sheet music.
Scott Joplin is the genius of Ragtime.
The 1 lst published Ragtime style song before the name was invented seems to be
Danses Cubaines (Danzas? Bailes??Cubanas) 1840, by US

Greetings from Minnesota!
Irving Berlin next biography please
This is a really good biography of Joplin and except for the end conductor musician and historian Rick Benjamin discover the old rehearsal hall for Treemonisha was just a myth Joplin performed his opera gave public performances of the Opera I in 1916 was costumes and full orchestra Rick Benjamin has the picture of the first treemonisha all this information was in the book that goes with Rick Benjamin's 2011 recording of the opera on New World Records I know Rick personally and he's a real gentlemen and fantastic scholar I keep asking him to write a book about Joplin and Treemonisha to finally get the accounts right you should order a copy of the 2011 recording just for that booklet that contains a lot of details that were never known about Joplin so now that you know the truth you have to do better research and put out the real biography of Joplin he was not an awkward person at all but of course the syphilis totally threw off his coordination and everything an affected his playing Joplin is a very important historical figure and composer thank you for the early part of the video that was very good but you need to fix the part about Treemonisha educate yourself please !! And fix the video thank you
Almost 100k subs, barely 200 views.
My channel peaked in 2014
Too bad he never recorded, would be interesting to hear the originator’s take on these classic songs. Joplin is one of the fathers of modern music.❤️
There is 1 recording of 1!piano solo.
@@samaval9920 all I’m finding is piano rolls, no actual recordings.
