🎻 violin practice - july 2024 - The Happy Farmer, slow and steady
I might not have been very focused on my bow posture but practising feels a bit overwhelming these days... but I am so grateful for all of you leaving a nice comment and giving constructive criticism. I feel like that's partly helping me to keep going because honestly I do feel like giving up more than ever. I felt like this before so I know it's temporary and learning an instrument is no easy task, I know that, and that's the beauty of it as well. However, sometimes you're so in your head that those thoughts come up... I'll keep moving forward though, one step at a time, and you should too 💗

I haven't been able to practice a lot and when I did I usually had shorter sessions and focused on technicalities. I almost didn't want to share this one because it's quite messy... 😓 But it goes to show that there are ups and downs with practice and it's also a way to see what and where to improve as well! 💗 ✨ My social media: Instagram: giuliaingmajor TikTok: giuliaingmajor Video filmed with ...

Sounds scary and weird at the same time
Idk why I kept thinking I was about to hear the Star Wars theme song 😂 It’s gotta be in the same key or something
@@Flowmatic11 😂😂 could be! I have to look into it!
Really good I wish I can play it , read music violin , I'm sure you will be great in short time
@@AISTORY-fk6pu 🫶 you can always start by researching :)
Girl, honestly you sound pretty amazing... I'm currently in the process of getting into practicing soon and they way you sound really sounds good... I don't know your music background or what you do for practice, but I can tell simply by the music sheets... So, good luck and have fun because you're literally doing great by the way your play
My best recommendation is to practice your scales so you can train your ear... It'll help you get into the flow of practice because your confidence in the note will impress your improvement
@@HaleyVee-w3d thank you so much Haley! You’re so kind! And thank you for the advice, I really need to focus more on scales to improve my intonation 😅😊 And good luck with your practice! ✨
Thanks for being vulnerable and sharing your practice with us! You're making great progress and if I may, I'd like to share some things I think will help you out. 1. Slow practice is important. It may not be the most exciting thing at first but if you can endure practicing slowly, you'll be able to see how much faster you learn by starting slowly. It also gives your brain a chance to work out what you should do next and how to make little improvements. Another suggestion I have is to listen to some recordings of the song you want to play. There are plenty of recordings on youtube. You can listen to them and get an idea of what you might want it to sound like when you play. After listening to some recordings, try to break the music down into small sections and focus on improving those sections one at a time. I recommend 2-4 measures at a time to begin with, then you can start increasing the amount of measure you practice until you've learned the entire song. Learning in small sections makes the music less scary and more manageable. Don't feel ashamed if you need to learn in small sections. Professionals do it all the time and recommend it because it's very effective. 2. You might be a little rusty but that's okay. Whenever I get back to the violin after some time off, I like to focus on producing as beautiful a sound as I can. What will help you to produce a more beautiful sound is focusing on how much weight you give to the bow as you go along the string. While doing a downbow, make sure to use your index/pointer finger to push down and give more pressure. As you get closer to the tip, the amount of pressure you use should increase. Since your hand is above the frog and far away from the tip, you'll need some extra weight to keep the sound nice and strong throughout the bow stroke. An exercise you can try is to play an open string using your full bow, but focus on keeping the sound consistent. You should focus on volume (how loud it is) and a smooth consistent sound. You want to try and get rid of any stops in the sound or bow shaking. If you add more pressure with your index finger (as you get closer to the tip) and keep your shoulders relaxed, that should fix a bouncy bow in many cases. 3. Your left hand is looking pretty good, but I noticed that you're pinky finger becomes really flat when you use it. I'll share some tips but I think it's something you should have a talk about with you're teacher. Ideally, the pinky should stay a little curved. This is important because it helps to keep the hand relaxed and supports flexible movement in the fingers (which you need to play fast music and do vibrato). Here's a video that should be helpful czcams.com/video/fhCz4sQpLMY/video.html Sorry for the long comment but I hope this helps you a lot. Keep up the great work!
@@Twilight91423 Hi! Yes playing slow is a bit like torture sometimes but slow and steady wins the race 🫠 and I don’t know why I started flattening my pinky?!? Thank you for pointing that out and thank you so much for all this valuable advice, I really appreciate it 🫶
Your bow angle is wrong. need to practice string crossing. You have touched other strings all the time. Mozart minutes is very easy.
Thank you for pointing that out, I might not have been very focused on the bow during this practice hence the mess.. 🤦♀️ and thank you for recommending those minuets, I will check them out 👍

I think my fav composer is Mozart. I'll listen to the string quartet 19 all day long if I have the chance. But I also like stuff from Gershwin and Rachmaninoff.
Amazing!
Wtf is this shit
Great work! A suggestion - to check your intonation on the first note (and third fingers in general) you can play the third finger on the A string together with the open D string, and then adjust the third finger until it's in tune. Eventually you may notice that you get a sympathetic vibration from the lower string when your third finger is truly in tune, even without bowing the lower string.
@@donaldstevens4773 thank you!! Will do that! 🙏 first and third finger are still a bit tricky sometimes 😅

🙌🏿 love this video. lol when I saw the sad lyrics upbeat music meme I instantly thought of “What a Fool Believes” by The Doobie Brothers. It’s too late though I still keep it in my happy playlist til this day 😅 😂
Thank you!! 😂 Never heard of this song, gonna listen to it!
Hi Giulia. The bow angle looks better than the last time. You said you needed more bow at a specific moment... You can use a tape to mark the bow midpoint and slowly try to work through the first 2 measures like this (bowing for each note until the 2 slurred G's): whole bow, half bow, half bow, half bow, half bow, whole bow, half bow, half bow. Notice that the slurred eighth notes will take a whole bow and after the 2 slurred staccato G's (the quarter notes) you'll repeat the pattern once again (I think you can figure out the rest). You don't need to do this while actually playing the notes; it's useful to build a sense of available bow length, so you can play open strings using the minuet's tempo/rythm. The first attempts will probably suck tons and be confusing as hell but there are so many things we need to pay attention while playing that sometimes it's better to focus on 1 thing at a time, even if it's for 5 minutes, and gradually incorporate them into playing. If it's not too much on your plate, I'd suggest you practice the G major scale (just 1 octave for now, starting on the D string). The only # note in the scale is the F# you see near the clef. You could use a tunning app like Soundcorset, for example.
Hi Iris! Thank you so much for your detailed advice, will definitely try it out! And I do use Soundcorset 😊
you really do have a creative soul, makes sense why i found you. I'm honored to be in the presence of your gifts.

Whats the price of your violin Idk whts the difference in violins acrd to their prices
Mine is a rental from the luthier, its price is around 2’000CHF (it’s like 2’200USD). However, I pay a set amount every 6 months and if I were to buy it, he will decrease what I’ve paid so far from the actual price! Well from what I’ve researched online, there are cheap and terrible violins out there… but it depends, as I responded to someone before, I saw a violinist with a $400 something violin and it sounded good! So I think it varies from which source you’re buying it from and the materials used!
@@giuliaingmajor lol i also saw the same video (guy with 400 vs 60 violin) their is only a little bit difference in the sounds

Btw, when it comes down to recitals, do you choose your own piece or the teacher picks it for you?
I chose mine! I think teachers leave you carte blanche to choose, also because you gotta feel comfortable to perform them!
Congratulations, though!
Thank you! ☺️
I honestly want to be a part of the recital this year as a Grade 1 student and I'm hoping to continue this process of learning the violin in the following years to come as well :)
Wishing you all the best! 💗
Keep going. It will take time but eventually things will start to "kick in", just don't turn on the autopilot when practicing. Watch out for bow angle. You can adjust this by standing in front of a mirror while playing open strings (slowly and using full bow) and trying to correct your bow arm. A tip my teacher gave me when I began Hans Sitt #1: if you mess things up on a measure, don't start all over again. Focus on that specific point and "clean it" as best as you can. You'll get less frustrated because you won't be hitting the same wall again and again after going all over through, say, 20 measures.
You’re right, sometimes I lose focus and don’t realise if I’m doing things in the correct way. My teacher also told me to go over the mistake I keep doing but I forget about it 😂 thank you for the reminder! 😊
Had to look up what fry screaming is 😂This is so interesting, you should definitely do the cover!

Congratss on your first recital!🥳 I'm an adult beginner, I can't wait to experience this ☺️
Thank you!! 🥰 yay! it’s going to be a beautiful and enriching experience!
My dream was to be a violin player when I was 11 years old. I loved it and I still do. I receive lessons from the net about playing, but I have not bought it yet. I hope I can buy it this year, knowing that I am now 16 years old. I want you to give me advice about this, please.😢😢
Hi! Well, I haven’t bought a violin yet too! Mine is a rental which is a greater (and cheaper) option if you can’t afford to buy one at the moment. I know there are cheap violins out there but sound-wise the majority are terrible… although I saw a violinist with a $400 violin and it sounds amazing so I guess it depends..? 🤔 And intonation is, of course, super important, especially because you’ll have to train your ears too! If anyone has other advice or suggestions, feel free to comment 💗
