    Heh. I found Headlight motors for my '86 GT. NEW motors. From basically ANY auto parts store. THEY ARE THE SAME AS A FIREBIRD'S, ONLY OPPOSITE SIDES!!! I've rebuilt sooooo many of these, early and later models, and they aren't bad. Just buy the new ones... Also check the fusible link by the "firewall" if neither are working.

    Nice install! My only issue with these new LED displays, either pre-made or DIY, is that the width of each display digit/character is thinner than the original gas display characters, and in turn doesn't fill out the entire display window or can't be read as clearly. I personally love the original system 11 alphanumeric displays with their wide width characters. Even replacement LED displays for those don't look nearly as good as the original.

    Im thinking of trying something extremely similar on my 2000 Jeep XJ. For practice I am first going to use a different used cluster just Incase I make a mistake. The only thing that will be different is aligning the needles, be it turning the gauges on, but not starting the vehicle, then pressing them in. Ill use that tape suggestion (smart) to mark the original positions of some gauge points. Ill use the tape method since that will likely last longer then fluorescent paint that is so often used. Thank you!

    Maybe a silly question, but how did you put the playfield up like that? I recently got my own JP and fixed a couple of issues it had (no thanks to the seller, but it was very satisfying...had to fix a ball through switch, a melted raptor coil, and some other minor things) but had difficulties reaching the bottom. I Know it's the "right" way I put it as there's the hook that latches, but that way the bottom side of the playfield is very difficult to access. Did you just pull it up or did you modify your cabinet somehow to allow for that? I'd try but I don't want to break anything, I'm tippytoing around it as much as I can since it's my first machine (and of course I got the best pinball machine, JPDE!). Thanks :)

    • @LonnyPayne
      @LonnyPayne Před 8 měsíci

      I didn’t modify anything to get the playfield up like that. You just have to be very careful. There are two slide rails on the cabinet. One holds each playfield pivot. As you lift the front of the playfield up a bit, you then pull the playfield forward being very careful to pull it straight towards you. Once the pivots hit the end of those slide brackets, you can tilt the playfield up a little more and it will rest on a set of sliding brackets on the back edge of each side of the playfield. You can keep pulling it towards you until those sliders then hit the edge of the cabinet bracket. Then the entire playfield can be lifted up and rest against the back box. Now after saying all that. There is no protection from the playfield falling off the cabinet brackets and into the floor of the cabinet if you don’t keep the playfield straight. If there is a twist when you lift it it can be dropped. There have been many flipper boards ruined by this. You have to make sure you lift evenly. You also have to let it down evenly. When you are putting it down, the rear sliders will hit the back of the cabinet bracket, some people just push it real hard to “pop” them over and continue sliding the playfield back in. I personally don’t like to jolt my machine like that so I will stand by the side of the machine and hold the front up with one hand and reach under the back of the playfield with the other and just raise it enough to get the slides over the hump and then let it down on the pivots and then move back to the front and finish sliding the playfield back in. Once you do it a few times it’s pretty easy but I can’t stress enough. BE CAREFUL. Keep everything straight and don’t twist. 👍🏻

      @TheRealLizardKing Před 8 měsíci

      @@LonnyPayne thanks :) Hopefully I won't have to do that for a while as I fixed a few issues, I hope my trex will keep up his eating habits for a looong time! But it's good to know I can put it that way. I'll ask a second set of hands if ever do that the first times though. Thanks!

    Doesn't seem like my symptoms are covered here, maybe. Right headlight comes up weak. Hood open light up all the way. Hood closed light comes up only half way. Leads to weak motor. But would like to hear what you might suggest. Fiero, 87GT, 29k miles. Some years ago I did replaced the nylon cylinders pieces.

    • @LonnyPayne
      @LonnyPayne Před 9 měsíci

      Yeah. Sounds like a weak motor. When the hood is open and the light comes all the way up, does it do it fast or sluggish because it should be pretty fast. I would probably take the mech apart and make sure all the gears are clean and not gummed up and then re lube and see if that makes a difference.

    Great video! Viewers: Just before taping/painting, clean the back of the Pointer with 95% or more Isopropyl Alcohol to remove any finger oils, let dry, then paint/tape. Also, those meter pins are VERY fragile, use steady and straight force when removing and reinserting, if you bend the pin then they are ruined. Only remove and install once - don't pull off or press on more than needed (once) because it can loosen the Pointer's grip on the tiny pin. Take your time, practice in your head and dry run with your hands but don't press the Pointer in until your muscle comes into play to press - then press it down perfectly in one shot. You may have noticed that some gauges can go way off scale during start or from sensor failures. They can get so far off scale they can get stuck. I took tiny pieces of soft black foam rubber and carefully super glued them off scale but before a point where the Pointer can get stuck. The rubber is about 3mm wide and 2mm thick and no taller to where the Pointer will touch it. This give the Pointer a soft stop. Don't use a hard stop like a metal post, inertia from the Pointer stopping so suddenly may cause it move on its pin and thus get out of alignment and give erroneous raedings.
