  • In this video I use a problem I was having with the T-Rex in my Data East Jurassic Park to explain several types of switch problems you can have in a pinball machine. I also illustrate how you might think you know what the problem is but further testing reveals something totally different.
    I hope you enjoy.

    "and as you can see.....absolutely nothing friggin' happens". You got no one but yourself to blame on those connectors. You did them all! lol.

    Maybe a silly question, but how did you put the playfield up like that? I recently got my own JP and fixed a couple of issues it had (no thanks to the seller, but it was very satisfying...had to fix a ball through switch, a melted raptor coil, and some other minor things) but had difficulties reaching the bottom. I Know it's the "right" way I put it as there's the hook that latches, but that way the bottom side of the playfield is very difficult to access. Did you just pull it up or did you modify your cabinet somehow to allow for that? I'd try but I don't want to break anything, I'm tippytoing around it as much as I can since it's my first machine (and of course I got the best pinball machine, JPDE!). Thanks :)

      I didn’t modify anything to get the playfield up like that. You just have to be very careful. There are two slide rails on the cabinet. One holds each playfield pivot. As you lift the front of the playfield up a bit, you then pull the playfield forward being very careful to pull it straight towards you. Once the pivots hit the end of those slide brackets, you can tilt the playfield up a little more and it will rest on a set of sliding brackets on the back edge of each side of the playfield. You can keep pulling it towards you until those sliders then hit the edge of the cabinet bracket. Then the entire playfield can be lifted up and rest against the back box.
      Now after saying all that. There is no protection from the playfield falling off the cabinet brackets and into the floor of the cabinet if you don’t keep the playfield straight. If there is a twist when you lift it it can be dropped. There have been many flipper boards ruined by this. You have to make sure you lift evenly. You also have to let it down evenly.
      When you are putting it down, the rear sliders will hit the back of the cabinet bracket, some people just push it real hard to “pop” them over and continue sliding the playfield back in. I personally don’t like to jolt my machine like that so I will stand by the side of the machine and hold the front up with one hand and reach under the back of the playfield with the other and just raise it enough to get the slides over the hump and then let it down on the pivots and then move back to the front and finish sliding the playfield back in.
      Once you do it a few times it’s pretty easy but I can’t stress enough. BE CAREFUL. Keep everything straight and don’t twist. 👍🏻

      @@LonnyPayne thanks :) Hopefully I won't have to do that for a while as I fixed a few issues, I hope my trex will keep up his eating habits for a looong time! But it's good to know I can put it that way. I'll ask a second set of hands if ever do that the first times though. Thanks!

    When a Pinball game has a stuck coil that is causing to blow fuses because a driver transistor is shorted or the coil is shorted. How can you turn on the pinball game without it blowing fuses to troubleshoot which driver transistor is Bad? you can disconnect the wiring harness from the solenoids to the driver board but how do you find which driver transistor is bad?

    • @LonnyPayne
      @LonnyPayne  Před 3 lety

      If I’m understanding you correctly, if you know what coil is stuck on then you can use the manual to see which one it is on the driver board. Normally the coil will lock on for a little bit before it actually blows the fuse. If you can’t figure it out within a second or so then turn the game back off real quick and the fuse shouldn’t blow. Then after a little bit repeat that until you find the coil.

      @@LonnyPayne yes was wondering how you troubleshoot pinball games that are blowing fuses when coils are locked on and keeps blowing the fuses without having enough time to find it which coil or driver transistor is bad. First step is to remove the solenoids harness from the driver boards PCB board. If its still blowing fuses when you turn the game on, how do you find out which driver transistor is bad?

    Whats going on with the multiple transformers /powersuplies in the bottom of the cab?

    • @LonnyPayne
      @LonnyPayne  Před 4 lety

      I use separate transformers to power my mods so it doesn’t draw power off the CPU. I. This case I have both 5v and 12v mods so there is a transformer for each.

    Hi Lonny, my T-Rex has stopped moving left or right. In diagnostics I can not move the T-Rex left or right with the flippers. What else should I be checking?
