105mm Sherman was never meant to be a snap engagement tank. It’s technically armored self propelled artillery. It would stop and fire so speed of transverse wasn’t a needed item.

Wanted to add a footnote to the history of these awesome weapons in that they were also used in combat by American troops after WWII during the Korean War. Being that the enemy had essentially no aircraft, these were primarily used to great effect against the mass human-wave attacks launched by the Chinese and N. Koreans earning it the moniker “The Meat-Chopper”. Years later, my father vividly recalled seeing these used in the brutal fighting up at the Chosin Reservoir and was still thankful for the protection they provided in that nasty, icy hell.

Lucky you, no torsion bars failed. I used to hate that job as the rubber bushes in the shock absorbers would react with the metal and seize up as would the securing nuts. This was on MK 2 432's which at the time were nearly new! (1965/6)

here in poland, you can still find parts of military hardware from WW2 in farm use, some examples: Sherman gun barrrel used as a fence pole. wheel carage from german field guns used to make a wagon for towing hay (sorry for my english). or my father in law still has his steel wire cutters that came of a tiger tank (we live where the vistula goes into the baltic, this is the place where the last german holdouts dug-in and stayed here untill germany surrender. So even today you can find burried stashed of weapons they tried to dispose of before going into captivity. near our hous on the farm fields i regualry find shell casings from the german 20mm AA gun, they are in semi-good condition, usualy damaged by the farmers plows, but very little run on them (i dont know what they where made of) a lot of mauser rounds and even empty perfume bottles from 1940s (yup i did my reachear on the bottles :D ) i guess the germans didnt bathe for a while so to hide the stik they used a lot of perfume :D
