The problem of this reason is the enclosure of homosexual as opposition to heterosexuality. We need to think in a complex way, before thinking a gay gene lets thing of a sexual attraction gene, thats where its gets complex as today we have discovered many genes involve in sexual atraction ,and also remember what does the gene does, in most cases a protein, an enzyme or maybe even mechanisms of instruction on how to build things

I think it's important not to antagonize religion with homosexuality and vice versa. Although it's tempting to do so, I can say that as someone who is both religious and homosexual, I've learned from both sides and they're not two things that are contradictory. People just lack knowledge from the other. It strikes me as ironic when one side says they stand with peace, love, and knowledge, but they draw a line between each other. I believe strongly that religion and the destigmatization of homosexuality are both important. I wish people could understand that generalization never looks good. If anyone's wondering, I follow Islam, the religion that probably seems the most intolerant against homosexuality, but I can point out Islamic teachings that say otherwise.

Excellent video. Just one note: On minute 3:00, that's an already duplicated chromosome, with both sister chromatides still attached. So both alleles are from the mother OR the father*. To see the one from the other parent, you should look at the homologous chromosome, which looks just like that one. *ok, actually, if it went through meiosis and crossing over, you could have an allele from the father and one from the mother in the same pair of sister chromatides, but that's a very specific case.

Theres’s a great quote from Stephen Fry, which says “There's nearly 2,000 examples of homosexuality observed in the animal kingdom... but there's only one example that has ever been observed of homophobia. Which of us is unnatural?" And before any pedants come at me with the “cannibalism is also natural” yeah, but also, 1) cannibalism is actively harmful both to one’s health and to society, 2) his quote is only about it being natural

Honestly, this has not helped me at all understand why homosexuality exists. Because, it shouldn't. A gene that causes any organism to not want to reproduce (directly or indirectly) should be phased out, right? Even if some homosexuals reproduce "against their will", there is still a lowered chance for passing on those genes, meaning it should be selected against, and eventually disappear. The only explanation i can think of is that it's a glitch, not necessarily a bad thing but still, a glitch.

@@cool_monke8355 what I'm saying is that no matter how beneficial it is, it should always be selected against. Because the gene drastically lowers the chances for the individual to reproduce, or makes it impossible. Evolution doesn't directly select for what is best, it selects for what is more likely to get passed on. This generally makes organisms better at surviving because those that are have a higher chance of passing on their genes. But, as I've said before, homosexuality lowers the chance of that by a lot, so how could it be kept?

@SeverinHawkland7855 I think it can be useful in the sense that if the parent/s or a young animal are successfully preyed upon, there is a chance of a same-sex pairing looking after said young, allowing that individual to have a chance at survival and pass on its genes later on in life. This has happened in the wild in the case of penguins that adopt eggs or chicks that have been abandoned or lost by their biological parents. This behavior has been observed by various species of penguins such as the chinstrap penguins and the gentoo penguins which commonly have male-male pairings. They contribute to the survival of their colonies in their own way ^^

a lot of what's called homosexuality is simply homo social activity. As with many evolutionary tools, a tool can function to serve more than one purpose. For example, sexuality serves for procreation, that's the most obvious, but also it's an attractive social force. It serves for mentorship, to keep couples together (even if they use birth control of have abortions, sex helps keep the couple together). Homosexuality exists in many advanced mammal species, for instance Lions, who live in Prides, exhibit homosexuality. The males stay home and babysit the little cubs while the lionesses go hunting for the Pride, bringing home food to all. Homosexuality helps keep the Pride together in lions. In humans, it helps keeps social groups together, in the past ancient armies. And there's no clear line between patterns of homosexuality, male-bonding and homo social behavior, it sort of blends together with a number of members abstaining, others more experimental, others "falling in love", others having deep male bonding, others simply enjoying their homo social environment. As a last evolutionary benefit, it helps prevent over population and the need for birth control and abortions by heterosexuals. If all members a species endeavored to procreate, then the species might self destruct. Simpler organisms self procreate, and can easily self destruct with over population, nor do they court better genes to improve the species. The organism species simple forces itself, all members, to procreate regardless of having special achievements like courtship and drive. Finally, homosexuality brings joy to a number of members, just as heterosexuality does. It's an evolutionary reward for not procreating. It's an evolutionary award for homo social gathering and mentorship, the reward pleasure for both, and a stronger next generation that in ancient times were better educated than neighboring societies that did not mentor their children, but rather brain washed them with lies instead. Their societies collapsed, unable to compete with smarter civilizations that didn't care for the next generations.

The rationale here doesn't sound rigourous at all: nowadays we know homosexuality has nothing to do with "genes" and is determined by the pre-birth hormonal environment (see Jacques Balthazart's "Biology of Homosexuality", 2011) so why would you look at homosexuality's "evolution" and why would you approach it genetically knowing that? The only reason why there is still homosexuality in nature is the diversity of the environmental (and especially of the hormonal) conditions the birth giver's in. If we could perfectly control the hormonal spikes of the embryo, we would absolutely be able to choose any sexual orientation for the babies. But that's a very dangerous and "eugenist" thing to have in mind...

But human love is an instinct as well. You cannot just make yourself love someone else in a meaningful way, it just happens. I'm also a Christian, but I recognise that if God has made people a certain way, it would be blasphemous to try to unmake that.

@@Cle-o yes but he did not make them that way it is proven. You can’t force to love someone but can force yourself not to. Human love isn’t instinctual in the way animal “love” is. Animal “love” is just to pass down one’s genes and continue the species because that’s what they were made for. They mate to reproduce for the species.

I've seen countless heterosexual couples that clearly do not love each other 😂

My personal hypothesis is that it has nothing to do with genetics at all and it's simply something hardwired into our behavior. Like how you don't have to think about it to fall in love with someone.
