I bought this a looooong time ago, but it's definitely not a book you want to buy /alone/ as the only textbook you learn from. Also... it took me like... weeks to really "get" the kana. Idk, maybe it's the autism/adhd. Maybe it's because I'm just SO accustomed to latin-bet langs lol but yeah, the book's pretty useful.

nice video but you keep repeating yourself and mentioning the same points, i think the video would be better if it was just 10 minutes. im sure you could fit all the info in that time span without affecting your pace. otherwise great stuff

As mentioned, this is not a standalone book. You need the other part which provides the translations/explanations and cultural notes to accompany the main text book.

MNM is perfect for class environment and for grasping and exercising basic Japanese, Genki can be used additionally as a practice and review book.

I agree with you for most part but the writing part. Writing is proved to help memorization, if you write the kanji down you’ll be less prone to forgetting it, with repetition of course.

I tried 3 times to learn Japanese. Failed like a Russian soldier in Ukraine every single time. The forth time I used JFZ And it was so much easier. By far the best method for self learners.

Wait a second... Minna no Nihongo has the Japanese book, but you need to also have the English notes with the explanation and vocabulary. Well, the bad thing is it feels outdated and gets a little boring at times.

There are many Chinese kanji that don't map across to Japanese. For example, trying to draw "縁" always comes out as "綠"; there is no option for "縁". Another commenter noted that "継" becomes "繼". This is unacceptable for drawing Japanese kanji. So how do Japanese people draw kanji on their iPhone?

There's also a free Anki course which goes through the grammar (~N5-N3) in Tae Kim's guide with lots of examples from anime and series. It's called Japanese like a breeze.

I bought this dictionary 25 years ago and I still use it. The SKIP method to look for a kanji is so convenient and easy to use ! Core meaning key words are so useful to remember the meaning of each character. This is, by far, the best kanji dictionary for learners ever !

To do list for reading Japanese: 1. Learn Hiragana and Katakana. 2. Memorize the first 2000 words on the Anki Japanese vocab list. ( These will be the 2000 most frequently used words in Japanese. That's about 90% of spoken Japanese. 🙂) 3. Learn the first 400 Kanji in James Hessig's book. ( This will be all of the radicals, fragments, and the most frequently used Kanji. ) Starting with a solid base in this material will make reading much easier. The Manga will have furigana to help you with the readings. Six words a day will get you to 2000 words in a year. You should go much faster than that. One Kanji a day will get you 365 in a year. You should go much faster than that too. It won't happen over night. It will happen if you keep at it.
