Steam Railmotor No.93 at the Llangollen Railway in March 2011
Railmotor No. 93 was originally built by the Great Western Railway (GWR) at Swindon Works in 1908. It was condemned as a Steam railmotor on 19th November 1934 and was converted into Auto Trailer No. 212 in which guise it appeared in May 1935.
The Auto Trailer was itself condemned by British Railways in May 1956. However, the vehicle was not scrapped but converted into a 'Work Study Coach' with a British Railways internal user number of 079014, this ended up in use as an office in Birmingham.
In 1970, it was sold to the Great Western Society and moved to their base at Didcot Railway Centre but it was not until 1998 that they were able to make a start on returning it to original condition as a steam railmotor. The frame of the new power bogie was erected in November 2000 at the Tyseley Locomotive Works and was then mounted on wheels and fitted with a boiler. In January 2009 the new power bogie was moved to the Llangollen Railway where it was united with the restored carriage portion. The work was completed in March 2011 just a couple of weeks before a photo charter organised by Richard Newton of the ‘3P20 Parcels’ group took place. No. 93 returned to public service at Didcot in May later that year.
The boiler certificate of No.93 expired in spring 2021 and the vehicle currently awaits a boiler overhaul and some considerable remedial work to the exterior wood cladding.

This railway is high on my list to visit, from the preserved railways in the UK where I have not yet had a chance to go. I like this pictured industrial tank engine with the saddle tank. It sounds great too, with that mixed train on the hook. What engine from their shed will replace "Melior"?

The actual spelling is 'Maerdy'. That is the proper Welsh spelling of the place where the colliery was. In the Rhondda valley of Wales. I really thought they would have used the proper spelling.

Gorgeous shots and lovely day I expect! Now the tankers either work mixed, if there is freight that is, or they sit at Totnes gathering dust. Hope to see them soon! Cheers mate.

I think this engine also took the cab from 3425- you can see where a much larger boiler used to be fitted up against the cab- and the Bulldogs had straight frames, while the Dukes had curved frames making the side plates to the cab totally wrong for the straight frames. Anyway, a wonderful series of videos of this fine engine back in Wales.

Right up my alley. You've put a big cheerful grin on my face. I can't thank you enough. Before you ask what it is about the Manor engines that makes me love them so much, my answer is this: sharp bark and shrill Swindon whistle. When I hear and see a Manor hard at work, she's music to my ears.

I'm a Great Western Girl, and God's Wonderful Railway comes top of the heap for me. The Manor is my favourite type of GWR engine in general. At this moment in time, Foxcote Manor is under cover at Tyseley Shed undergoing repairs. Best of all, she'll get her lined Brunswick Green coat of paint back. From what I know of Dinmore Manor at present, she's running on the Gloucestershire, Warwickshire Railway. Thankyou for uploading this, and can I copy it pretty please? No tickets to reach there and it all depended on your luck that you could capture a train in you photos.
