I want to know why an L4 L5 surgery would involve the use of TcMEP, stimulation of the limbs and brain to test for damage during surgery when this surgery ends below the end of the spinal cord at L1 L2. Some insurance companies won't appeove the expense of a neurologist and the operator of the device. It is such a delicate coordination with anesthesia andnthe surgeon. Why do it for a lumbar surgery? I was shocked to find out the parient can bite their tongue when shocked, so they put a bite block in. Sometimes things happen, like too much muscle and brain frying so that the patient suffers over time like an elecrical injury. It can look like ALS or stiff person syndrome because the brain injury causes stiffness, and the spine insury causes flaccidity. It looks like a rare condition.

Will the MRI show how many mm? I have had an MRI and no one has told me.

This is the best explanation of progressive cervical spine disease I’ve seen. I’m scheduled for cervical disc replacement next week, and now I understand the “stepped” myelopathy symptoms that I’ve experienced for years that get written off as aging/anxiety. I’m a graphic artist and have experienced bouts of not being able to control my dominant hand. It’s not until significant pain enters the equation that things take on a sharper focus. Don’t know whether I’ll get control of my hand back at this point, but it is helpful to know it’s not all in my head, so to speak. Thanks for the deep dive, Doc!

This procedure seems to be a more sensible approach. The idea of removing an anatomical part of the body that has a purpose for it's design, and then to try to think that the person can live without that part of his anatomy; is stupid in my opinion. Yes, I believe that proper nutrition can assist bones and eventually cause the body's enzymes to "eat away" a portion of the spur, or osteophyte. But I believe that takes a long time. I'm considering this option if my non-surgical decompression treatments don't completely alleviate my pain. I have several herniations or bulges of disc with I believe some spurs growing off my vertebral bodies that are also irritating the nerve roots to my leg. Need to revisit my MRI's with a spine surgeon or neurologist and see if the ultrasonic drill would be the solution. Thanks for posting this well illustrated 3D video!

Another Canadian here I had surgery by Dr. Cantor first week of May. Severe L4 L5 dessication with S1 compression. Procedure just like he demonstrates in his lumbar videos. I feel great no regrets and I have all my parts. 64 yrs. young.

It will take 2 surgeries to correct it. I am wondering if surgery will alleviate my pain??? Or create more problems for me ?? Any advice

I had to have 3 levels of CSpine fused due to stenosis from paoriatric arthritis. Choose your neuroosurgeon carefully! Make sure they do 100s of fusions annually. Teaching hospitals are great, I went to UCSF.

Mine has been since 2017 and i barely can have a bowel and ive been to hundreds of doctors

Curious if other surgeons in the mid-Atlantic area are using this technique. I have no desire to have a laminectomy. I’m quickly getting to this place and I don’t want to end up with an unstable spine.

I am a Canadian who had severe spinal stenosis L4-L5 S1. Contacted Dr. Cantor via his website as instructed. Sent my MRI down arranged a consult with Dr. Cantor. We went over my MRI just like on the video and yes I was a canadate for a lumber decompression. I agreed to go ahead and boom I had an appointment. His office staff is very accommodating and goes to great lengths to keep you in the process. Emails and phone calls are answered. Had surgery May 2nd 2024. Everything is great so far. I can highly recommend Dr. Cantor and his team. Also the care at Holy Cross in Ft. Lauderdale was A1.

I’ve had Acdf and a laminectomy at the age of 40. I suppose by 45 or 50 I’ll be receiving another fusion…..

When should I see a doctor and get treatment for my cervical issues? I have pain on my right neck and it radiates behind my right scapula and on my right hand.My middle finger feels like it’s burning even when I wash my hands and my right wrist is so painful too. I also have numbness and tingling on those areas when I lay down in bed .This has been going on for years now😔
