I TESTED $30 Fractal Burner VS $1,000 UNIT
This video is made for educational purposes only. Do not try this at home.
In this video I am comparing a microwave transformer fractal wood burner I made myself to a fractal wood burner from Lichtenburgwoodburning.com. I show the differences in the 2 units and different methods I use for cleaning and finishing pieces like this.

Great video. Beautiful piece. I've worked with epoxy finishes several times. My key to get the micro bubbles removed is to go over the finish two or three times with the torch. Wait a few minutes between torches. But when you torch, make sure you have a light source in front of you as you are torching so the light shines off the surface as you torch. You can see the micro bubbles and see them pop as you torch them. Just finished a click that way, and the finished surface was pristine! Give it a try.

What's with the overly fancy name. It's a cutting board, a very nice cutting board.

I haven't done epoxy coated tables but have done a lot of mold making and casting. Pressure pots are good for casting under pressure because they smash the bubbles down. This makes them almost unnoticeable in the final product. When I am pouring epoxy or using silicone I use a vacuum chamber to draw the air out of the liquid. It works better than making the bubbles small. If you only compress they just end up finding each other again and getting bigger. I also agree with another post on here since you are using the pressure pot you should do the two passes at different times with the torch. You were likely compressing the bubbles down just before the pour and then over time they joined up and made the bubbles beneath the surface.

Have you tried putting the table in a mold then pouring the epoxy into the mold, then sanding down to the level you want, then polish. It will take a lot more epoxy and more sanding but should give you that perfect finish.

In my experience, the more porous the wood, the more bubbles you'll get. Usually takes a couple of epoxy soaking and hardening cycles to get rid of those.

I bought a controller for extra safety parameters ,I have a Plexiglas table with 3" drip edges to contain any liquidity put a 1/2 rubber mat in the Plexiglas box to put the piece on while it's fractal burning I also wear thick black rubber gloves making sure the floor is always dry I found it also to make a stand or place to hang each electrode on separately as to mot cause a short or make a accidental touch more importantly I make sure once it's powered on its always powered off before anything else is done ! Never touch the electrodes when the system is on remember !you are the kill switch the switch will kill you!

The expensive machine seems to do more branching, but you would know that better than I. It also burns deeper. We would really like to hear your opinion. Is the expensive unit worth it? The voltage is lower, and the current is higher, by the advertising. The finished pieces are both excellent, and your professional attitude shows in your work. I would like to hear your pros and cons. Thanks!

You made a beautiful piece. One bit of info i can lend to you (or those watching) is when wet sanding is don't use dust extraction once you get to 1000 grit and higher. The extractor can make your scratches worse. Plus hand sand your last grit twice by hand in the same direction. That was a trick I learned from doing auto body work.
