    EDITED: Bruce, I've taken a deeper dive into this. You may be experiencing leakages through earth grind which are affecting the "burn", causing the need for additional soaking ans electrolyte use AND, wasting power that could go to your workpiece, AND creating more pathways for accidents.
    You are trying to be careful, and respect the power. Please open your enclosure and tell me if you have one of the output leads connected to earth ground. Alternately, you can just use an ohmmeter with the unit unplugged between earth ground on the power plug, and either of your output leads. If this does not show infinite resistamce, stop immediately and we can work through a minor rebuild of your system.
    Nice work though. That particular maple was a good choice. It shows very well the variations in conductivity through the wood.

    The pattern looks great. The sign designe is spot on except I would make the lined 3 mm wide and 2 -3 mm deep (maybe emphasise it with some black resin to make it stand out more).
    P.S.: Do keep in mind that I usually shape wood and stone in a different manner, so this is just an aesthetic opinion not a professional one. The result is a great piece to look at and draws attention to itself.

    Does the baking soda discolor the wood at all? I never tried waiting for it to try before cleaning.Fill me in on your experience working the wood after the burn

    • @bruceburnswoodshop1620
      @bruceburnswoodshop1620  Před rokem

      That’s a great question, short answer yes, the baking soda does change the woods natural color. I use a product called wood bleach to fix that.
      This is why I always soak the entire piece I am working on. If you only soak the wood where you want it to burn then that section of the wood will be a different color then the rest of the piece.
      I usually just sand the wood and get the burns all cleaned up and see how it looks. In this video the wood wasn’t too discolored and I liked the way it looked so I didn’t use wood bleach. But wood bleach is a great option to help bring back the woods natural colors.

    I agree with all the other comments this looks sick as hell but you should have cut out the design of the company name or either colored it in dark black or had it burned in by your laser to be darker or outline thicker

    • @bruceburnswoodshop1620
      @bruceburnswoodshop1620  Před 10 měsíci +3

      It’s funny looking back on it now I absolutely should have. The laser I have is just a 40 watt diode but I could have just ran it over several passes and burned the engraving deeper and filled it with resin. Not sure why I didn’t at the time. I will say it does look better in person but still thecompany name should be easier to see.

    As an electrician and as a fellow burner. I have a few suggestions. 1, your wood is to wet. 2, use higher voltage. I burn from 7500k to 15000k. I really should post some videos of my burns as I can completely control it and burn in logos. My only problem is idk how to produce CZcams videos. I've created some very detailed logos with fractal burning. No laser etching involved. Just very high voltage. Hit me up if you wanna learn.

You could make products with a much nicer effect and finish with much less effort, in half the time and it would be so much safer. Good work though buddy.

      But in my opinion it’s about having something that’s totally unique. It’s kinda like buying hardwood floors instead of laminate, the hardwood is going to be more expensive hard to install might warp on you and scratch easier but they are unique and higher quality.

    Your set up is dangerous, the leads don't look like high voltage leads, also put a light on your transformer to indicate it has power, there is also NOTHING stopping you from setting up your foot "Deadman switch" close to the work to stop you from a moment of forgetfulness and moving the low voltage jumper leads. Your set should need at a minimum both hands to trigger it, that way you can not touch the leads.
    Again this is not a good set up, glad it works for you, me I wouldn't touch this thing if you paid me. I would strongly recommend throwing this out and start again. Yes I am an electrician of 36 years, yes I made my own burner, yes it scares me and I treat it with the upmost respect.

    I understand that you need to warn people of the danger so they don’t kill themselves and their family try to sue you. But that’s like the one chip challenge company telling parents not to let their kids eat them, telling the kids not to. Worked well for Tide Pods. And after all, aren’t you doing it at home? It looks like you know what you’re doing, but I doubt you were born an expert at it. More than likely you studied up on it before just going for it. I agree that this can make your day go real bad, real quick, but how about telling us that this isn’t a play toy and be very careful and learn everything you can about it before plugging it in. Having said all that, I just ran across your channel the other day and haven’t seen all your videos. So if you’ve said that sort of thing in some of them, then, opps, my bad.
