    Finally someone with the 2-platform advice for the DIY user. I use the more expensive brand X for tools I use often but I also have inexpensive brand Y for tools I don't use that much or are simply to expensive to justify for me in brand X.

      Spend more on the tools that matter... but something like Ryobi has several tools that I prefer the ryobi version because the performance just doesn't matter. For something like a van, my ryobi glue gun, etc, the performance difference just isn't there and I save money on the tools.

    I carry a hammer drill and impact on my belt, up ladders all day. NOTHING has a better power to weight/size ratio than a Milwaukee with a HO 3.0 battery.

      The compact XR doesn't reach quite as high in terms of power as the M18 Fuel but in terms of power to weight ratio, the DCD800 with a 1.7ah power stack is a good combination as well.

    I’m a plumber and do a lot of new construction….ive got the flex and the dewalt hammer drill what I have noticed is flex is just so fast and will go thru about anything, but where flex fails which is low torque and tougher wood that requires torque that’s where the dewalt begins to shine…..I have nothing bad to say about either but at the moment my go to drill is the dcd1007 I’ve had it for a week and can say it might be a little bulky but it’s like a Cadillac when using feels great in hand and never have to worry about it binding up and snapping your wrist with the anti-rotation and great video!!!

As for the batteries, unless you have a source to purchase them, as far I as know, they have been announced in Europe but not yet in North America. Once they are out, I will likely get one to test.

      @TinkerWithTools Před 2 hodinami

      You are right that the 5ah battery is available and I am sure it would improve the performance of the drill. I would love to have every battery from every brand to be able to offer all the different combinations that you might encounter, but as a smaller CZcams channel, there is only so much budget to go around. I'll always attempt to give a tool its best chance at success within the constraints I have. Making a perfect apples to apples comparison across several brands will always be a challenge.

    I'm mostly running Dewalt, with a few M12 tools. My 996 seems to still do the job well, and I believe it performs above specs when combined with 9ah flexvolt - almost the same as 999. I have to say Milwaukee often strikes a really good line between really high power and compact format. I cannot say anything about Flex, as I've never seen anyone use it in Norway. Glad to see Dewalt not simply upgrading stuff, but re-designing.

    • @TinkerWithTools
      @TinkerWithTools Před 2 dny

      If you could get the Festool kit for $189 and can handle the noise... then that is what I would pick, but that would be mostly based on terms of refinement of the tool. Festool tools are nice to use and it's why people pay outrageous sums of money for them and the system that they reside in.

    • @bdm1000
      @bdm1000 Před 2 dny

      @@TinkerWithTools Thank you! That's very helpful because, if they were both $189, you're essentially picking the refinement of the Festool over the power of the DeWALT, but because you mentioned the lower price point. I'm basically coming back to considering a Festool because I recently purchased a UJK Parf Guide Mark II jig to build my own 2096 benchtop. And while I know I will be clamping it down when I start drilling the pilot holes, I was looking at the 3mm drill bit and the 20mm cutter and noticed they are built for the Centrotec system which as you know, among other things, reduces runout/wobble. And while most people appear overwhelmingly happy with the Parf Guide Mark II jig, once in awhile people are running into accuracy issues as it is essential to lay these holes out as precisely as possible to get as close to CNC accuracy as possible, and in one case the person claimed he couldn't get to the bottom of the inaccuracy issue even working with Axminster's engineers to see what went wrong. I don't think it is a stretch that most people are using Festool drills making these products, so now I am a little worried I might be investing all this money on the Parf Guide Mark II only to ruin a very expensive piece of 18mm plywood. Peter Parfitt, who invented the system along with the engineers at Axminster Tools said that he uses the original CXS to build most of his desktops with the Parf Guide system, but in his videos I only see him using it for the pilot holes; he uses one of Festool's $600+ Cordless percussion QUADRIVE drills to drill out the 20mm holes (but I will take him at his word that often uses the CXS for this purpose). Either way, he's also always drilling/cutting into MDF and not plywood. I guess I am wondering if a CXS might somehow yield better results than my 12v or my 20v DeWALT DCD999 hammer drill/driver. Those are my only two options at the moment. Heck, maybe I should be looking at the CXS 18 or even the older C 18 for the extra power. The C 18 is also quieter like the original CXS. If you were building a 2096 bench with a Parf Guide Mark II guide, what would you probably use?

    • @TinkerWithTools
      @TinkerWithTools Před 2 dny

      I have considered getting the part guide a time or two but the price has always deterred me so I get that you want to be as accurate as possible if that is the direction that you are going. obviously when it comes to stuff like chuck wobble and such, I am not set up to test precision, but if you are using centrotec bits, that system excels at that. 20mm holes with the CXS 12 would be possible, but I would be susprised if someone is using the old CXS as the primary tool, I would be surprised. But who knows. I just wasn't a fan of that tool in 2022 when I bought it for the price that I paid for it. If I were doing this my self, I would probably use the CXS 12 or something like the Metabo (German, not Metabo HPT) that I featured on the channel a while back. That drill offers a good level of precision on refinement. One consideration that I don't know if you have looked into would be see if someone would rent you CNC time to do it. While there would be a cost associated with that, I am guessing that it would be less expensive that the Parff guide plus a CXS 12 if that is the route you would go. Just food for thought.

      I think with time my opinion is largely the same in terms of the tools. They are a big step in terms of performance. They have good enough quality in terms of not breaking (but I have a warranty with easy replacement if they do) and they are a small step behind in terms of safety tech and fit and finish. What has changed for me is that they now combo kits, promo pricing etc that make them a more compelling value.

    How does the halo LED compare to the triple LED's on the HPT Triple Hammer? Is it that much of a difference or that much brighter? Do you (from your personal preference) feel the halo LED is actually *necessary*?

  • @unclefester4626
    @unclefester4626 Před 2 dny

    No...and here is why. They state they have a 3 year warranty but in reality its only 1 year. Beyond 1 year they will find any excuse they can find to deny a warranty repair going as far as to even blame the customer for a design or mfg flaw like ford does. There is a local contractor type tool store that did warranty work for dewalt, mulwaukee and makita. They sold those 3 lines of tools and thats it. They dropped dewalt tools both from sales and warranty work. I asked him about it. He started off calmly explaining it but wound up in a angry rant about the company and the rotten things they try to pull on customers as well as those who do their warranty work. I'll pass on dewalt. I'll pass on any more milwaukee mainly because of their batteries...and I'll stick to what i allready have. When all my m18 batteries are done i wont buy any more.

    Trying to decide if the new 18v Triple Hammer is worth it. I can get the kit that comes with the 18v drill/driver and the basic 18v impact for $130. The new triple hammer is currently on sale for like $96 on Amazon for just the tool. Maybe I should just get the kit that comes with the drill/driver for $100. And buy the triple hammer separately. I would be spending about $70 more to do that, rather than just get the $130 kit that comes with the more basic impact. I think it might be worth it though. I like the LOOK of the TH, with the 3 LED's for one thing. And I like the lighter weight, smaller size, higher RPM, increased torque, and speed control. What do you think? Do you think it's worth the extra $70? Also what exactly is the "IP 56" sticker at the bottom for? Does that mean it's waterproof or something..?

    • @TinkerWithTools
      @TinkerWithTools Před 2 dny

      Okay, trying to unpack each question so let me know if I miss one. The triple hammer is a nicer, more versatile impact driver. I really like it up to a certain size of fastener (5-6 inches and below really). It has better lighting, the different modes, etc. The impact in the 130 kit surprised me and if it's all you know, it's not a bad impact. The drill in that kit thought, I actually really like. If the money is something you can swing, it is the nice combo to get the drill and the triple hammer, but if you would rather not spend the money, the $130 kit isn't terrible. If I have learned anything about Metabo HPT, it's that once you have batteries and chargers, you can typically swing some deals and sales to deepen your commitment to the platform in a more price effective way than other brands. As for IP56. It's a rating system that rates tools on their protection against the ingress of water and dust. There are videos out there when you can see how this is tested but basically, some rain on it won't kill the tool. I have seen people dunk it in a bucket of water, but I would necessarily recommend that.

      Thanks for your reply again. I feel like maybe I'm asking too many questions here (lol), so I just wanted to let you know I've reached a decision on what to buy. And it is all thanks to your videos. At first, I wanted the M18 compact drill kit. Then I got curious about the MHPT from your video and researched it. I soon learned that the value on the kits is simply unbeatable. It seems like Metabo HPT is just a SMALL step below the big 3 in quality/design/reliability and perhaps near equal in performance. So for the prices, none of the big 3 come anywhere close in terms of value. So. I have decided to get the drill driver kit (no impact, two 2.0Ah's, charger, bag) for $99 from CPO Outlet. Why there? I found a $10 off coupon to use, bringing the pre-tax total to $89 w/ free shipping. AND, I will also buy the Triple Hammer Bolt kit (two more 2.0Ah's, upgraded FAN charger, and hard case) for $179 from Lowe's. Best coupon I can find for Lowe's is $5 off (lol), bringing the pre-tax total to $174 (free ship). So all total, before taxes I'm in it for $263 before taxes. So around $280 total. But look at everything I will get. A very nice drill, possibly the BEST impact (for the money) on the market, FOUR 2.0Ah batteries, a basic charger, a FAN charger, tool bag, AND a hard plastic carrying case. Dewalt, Milwaukee, or Makita can't come anywhere near that in terms of value. People are sleeping on Metabo HPT/Hitachi. Let them sleep. The smart people will get the best deal from team green because of their blind addiction to mustard and ketchup. And... whatever food is teal in color.
