You have been our friends in some of our darkest times. Your sons and daughters have fought with us and died with us, many of them are buried here in the soil of our land, that soil is now American soil, their presence makes it American for eternity. When evil attacks a friend like that and hurts them badly, the very least we could do is mourn with you and show respect and empathy for your pain. Our late Queen gave this order because she was in touch with her people and she knew this act was from us all, it was the right thing to do. That is why our history will remember her as our greatest monarch.

Queen Elizabeth was one of the greatest monarchs and to show her solidarity towards the American people on that awful day by having her guards play the American National Anthem was the gracious lady she was. I’m sure the guards where also honoured to play it as well. 🇬🇧🇺🇸🇬🇧🇺🇸

I remember that from only a couple of days after "9/11" and that what first occurred to me was how well our late Queen was nearly always able to express on our behalf what the huge majority of Brits were already thinking and feeling. YET then, more importantly still, it brought home something else too. A better grasp of the grief, fury and bewilderment but also defiant patriotism and outrage at what'd been done, shown by many Americans. Including those stranded over here during the unavoidable flight ban that followed the atrocity and a good few of who seemed to have somehow just gravitated to stand at Buckingham Palace gates.

On the one year anniversary of 9/11 I was having my kitchen renovated and I asked all the workman to down tools for the one minute silence while I paid my respects. Anyone who lives in the UK knows that our workmen are a hardy bunch and I thought they'd laugh or take no notice. Every one of them stopped. Its impossible to explain to anyone who didn't live through that terrible day how it affected everyone. The Queen playing The Star Spangled Banner was no surprise to us, she really cared about people and she knew how much Americans must be hurting. I miss her.

I know Avi's decision to leave was amicable, but based on context clues, I believe there may have eventually been some contention in the divorce, as it were. When asked about one another, they very professionally wish each other well in a sincere, but vague and diplomatic way. Kevin has maintained his friendship with Avi, and recently congratulated him on one of his solo releases on Instagram, which was lovely to see. It's been years, now, so hopefully they are all fine, and one big happy family with potential collabs in the future, but we won't know unless it happens. Maybe a few more years would help smooth things over, like on the 25th anniversary of the band or something. That would be cool!

As an American, I cried during her funeral. She was from a different era & her death seem to symbolize the end of it. A time when people in society tried to be civil and respectful towards others.
