    Very nice explanation. I have done both the v3and v3x for calculations. I think v3x is better. your eq setting makes audyssey next level. I think it is very close if not better than Dirac live. Thanks for providing this amazing tool! A question: My original Audyssey XT32 calibration sets my subs at -8.0 and -8.5 respectively. The EVO 3.X DEQ optimization lowers them even more to -9.0 and -9.5. Why is that, and does it seem correct?

    Strange, loaded v3x yesterday. And tonight did a new calibration, because it was mentioned there was later that day an silent update on 18.03. Same ady, same results on levels, distances, crossovers, setting lfe+main……but the new calibration has less bass. This is because the subs are playing not as loud, but have same level as previous v3x. Is the silent update doing something? Any thoughts? @ocaudiophile

    • @ocaudiophile
      @ocaudiophile Před dnem

      Make sure you start optimizatrion with a fresh REW and try to work from saved mdat files rather than dropped imports. Unless REW is bloated, there's no way you will get different results with different runs of A1 Evo for the same ady file. Silent updates are only silent when they don;t chnage any optimization but only fix a bug that caused errors.

The various V.3 versions pretty much came in with reasonable crossovers ranging from 80 to 110 but the notice about changing the Low Pass Filter from the typical 120 to 250 puzzles me whether it's for the Master or DEQ versions. It sounds okay but it just seems to be far from the norm.

    • @ocaudiophile
      @ocaudiophile Před dnem

      This only effects LFE (X.1 track in a movie) channel and if your sub rolls of at 120Hz naturally, avoids double filtering (another 120Hz filter will drop down sub's response a little bit around 100Hz) by moving the second filter to 250Hz (as far as possible). Otherwise LFE channel doesn't get any signlal above 120Hz anyway.

    @ocaudiophile ... You know it's working when... when you find yourself listening to an entire album when you were supposed to be listening to some test tracks! A couple of quick questions... When the log reports; "[IMPORTANT!] Subwoofer volume adjustment required: 3dB." I assume that this is this something that Evo handles, rather than an instruction? Secondly, the log reports; "[WARNING!] SW1: 5.90 meters, please SWITCH this subwoofer's POLARITY! [IMPORTANT!] Reminder: DO NOT FORGET to physically switch the polarity of subwoofer(s) as instructed above." ... but this is not the correct distance of the sub. What should I do? Change the polarity? Change the distance within the amp? BTW I ran your script using REW Beta 42 with default EQ target type set to 'None'. I can't find a newer Beta... yet.

    • @ocaudiophile
      @ocaudiophile Před dnem

      Unless it's a warning (orange color) or an error (red) you don't need to do anything. Sub volume is adjusted by Evo. Sub inversion is something you need to do. You can tick no inversion option if you are unable to do that with your sub(s). Rew beta 43 is still not released but you've done the right thing with 42 so it will not be different.

  • @2ActiveDesign
    @2ActiveDesign Před 2 dny

    Hey this is sounding great! Bass is on point with the OCA Soft target curve. I do have one question though, I found custom midrange compensation beneficial, as there is some unwanted boost in the driver crossover frequencies for my speakers which is not there when I use the pure direct sound. I'd like to apply a dip where the drivers on my speakers cross-over. Can I do that directly in REW with a PK filter perhaps, or how would you suggest applying a custom mid-range compensation dip? If the PK filter is the best way, which measurement should I apply it on?

    • @ocaudiophile
      @ocaudiophile Před 2 dny

      You can turn midrange compensation on in the app before transferring Evo optimized ady file to your receiver. If it's brightness you wanna dim, you can turn "cinema eq" on in the receiver.

    • @2ActiveDesign
      @2ActiveDesign Před dnem

      @@ocaudiophile Thanks for the reply! I see the default Audessey midrange compensation at 2k is possible to add via the MultEQ Editor as you suggest, however, I noticed that using a custom dip at 2.8k which corresponds to the midrange crossovers on my speakers would be impossible to add using this method because of the multiple points in the optimized ADY curve. I suppose that the PK filters in REW would be the most accurate way since the overall result is great including the brightness, it's just a tiny bit of hiss artifacts that are noticeable in sibilant voice recordings and it sounds like a 2-3 db cut would fix it. I am totally new to REW, but I suppose applying the filters before starting the optimization might be a way to do it? I have speakers with different midrange-tweeter crossovers at 2.4k, 2.6k and 2.8k. Perhaps you know a better step in the A1 Evo Script where I could add a javascript prompt that would allow me to pause the script and manually apply the filters and continue execution of the script once the prompt is closed? This with the objective that the custom filters would be applied to the resulting ADY files.

    • @ocaudiophile
      @ocaudiophile Před dnem

      Evo doesn't apply any filters beyond 250Hz, and all filters applied are only cut off filters. It adds a anti reference curve at the end which boosts the frequencies above 10kHz by some amouint but this is just to bring back the speaker responses to where they originally were before the odd Audyssey reference filter is applied. So, nothing is done between 2kHz-3kHz really (unless you have a receiver with Cirrus Logis DSP chip because these models also require AUdyssey mic calibration file applied).

    A1 Evo v3x released just now (13 July 2024 21:45 CET) Edit: silent update @ 08:52 CET on 14 Jul 2024 fixing falsely prompted "limited lpf" with 2 sub standard bass systems. Compatibility: • Requires REW Beta version 43 or above for best results (a bug with persistent Subwoofer EQ target type that could cause minor variations in sub alignment has been fixed in that version). Updates: 1. Microphone calibration file correction to imported measurements for certain receivers: o Models with Cirrus Logic DSP chips displayed incorrect high frequency responses in REW. 2. Extended crossover frequency range analysis: o Large speakers will now be analyzed for up to a 90Hz crossover frequency during optimization. 3. Subwoofer lowpass filter frequency: o Bass extraction LPF setting is limited to 80-90Hz if there is just 1 subwoofer or 3 subwoofers to avoid bass localization. 4. New customization parameters: o Following customization parameters can be selected directly from the optimization screen: ▪ forceSmall (default value: 'false') - If 'true', front speakers will NOT be set to 'Large / Full range', ▪ forceCentre (default value: 'false') - If 'true', front speakers will be set to 'Large'. 'Subwoofer Mode' in the AVR will need to be set to 'LFE', and subwoofer(s) will be time-aligned to the 'Centre' speaker, ▪ forceLarge (default value: 'false') - If 'true', front speakers will NOT be set to 'Small'. ▪ noInversion (default value: 'false') - If 'true', avoids subwoofer polarity inversion. This may limit alignment options and could negatively impact sound quality but is necessary if your subwoofers do not have polarity switching capability, ▪ forceWeak (default value: 'false') - For systems with less powerful receivers and/or identical speakers. If 'true', all bed channels will be crossed over at 80Hz and all Atmos channels at 120Hz. If you regularly listen at loud volumes, this option will avoid LFE + Main mode and relieve your receiver and speakers by directing all bass signals to the subwoofer(s), ▪ limitLPF (default value: 'false') - If 'true', limits lpf evaluation frequencies for even number of sub(s) to avoid bass localization in 'LFE + Main' mode - odd number of sub(s) are automatically limited. o Additionally, from inside the script (line 253) ▪ forceMLP (default value: 'true'; If 'true', only the first mic position measurements will be used in most calculations. If 'false', all of the measured mic positions average will be used, o Please note that the above options are for special cases and Evo will perform best with the default parameters for most set ups. Enjoy the enhanced audio experience! Best, OCA ************************************************** Important ******************************************************************************************************************************************** A bug in REW Beta is causing slightly off SW time alignments. The complete fix will be coming in the next REW Beta (Beta 43). In the mean time, you can change default EQ target type in REW from "Subwoofer" to "None" before importing measurements and running Evo. I didn't want to keep you waiting any longer and waste the weekend. REW Beta 43 will hopefully be released tomorrow.

      REW changes EQ target back to Subwoofer after loading measurements into REW, do we then change it back to "none" again? Or leave it to "Subwoofer"

    • @ocaudiophile
      @ocaudiophile Před 3 dny

      This could be a over delayed subwoofer or speakers too far apart from each other but there really is more than 6m distance between two of your speakers (or a sub and a speaker) which is not correctable with Audyssey limits. Bring them closer or if it's the sub, find out what is causing the delay. Turn off lpf and PEQ filters on it if any. Get rid of wifi dongle if there's one.

    In V3 the clarity is better and of the main speakers the most. But the bass is way to much and main speakers and amplifier have to work hard. I have big main speakers but not for lfe. Setting lfe+main and bass lpf at 150hz. So in conclusion v2.3x bass is nicer listening to, but the clarity of v3 is better. So is with v3.0x this combined?

      @@CarlosGomez-THX_1138 I have found a solution. On the Denon 3800 you can set the distribution of lfe. So I set it to off, so no lfe will be send to the main speakers. They are still full range without the extra load of lfe. Overall bass spl is less in this setting comparison to v2.3x. Solution @ocaudiophile ?

    My Denon AVR-6700 only supports two subwoofers. I am running four identical 12" Klipsch downfiring subwoofers with two y-adapters. The Audyssey app and therefore the EVO script are only aware of two subwoofers. I have two subwoofers in the front of the room connected to the Subwoofer 1 port. I have two subwoofers in the back of the room connected to the Subwoofer 2 port. All four subwoofers are close to the wall but generally aimed at the main listening position. This was the message I received from EVO: 4:10:00 AM [WARNING!] SW1: 5.86 meters, please SWITCH this subwoofer's POLARITY! 4:10:00 AM [WARNING!] You will need to switch polarity of EACH of your 2 subwoofers! 4:10:00 AM [IMPORTANT!] Reminder: DO NOT FORGET to physically switch the polarity of subwoofer(s) as instructed above. 4:10:00 AM [IMPORTANT!] If your sub(s) don't have a physical or app controlled phase/polarity switch, you can change polarity of your front main speakers. 4:10:00 AM [IMPORTANT!] You DO NOT need to repeat Audyssey measurements after subwoofer inversion(s), optimization calculations already account for that. I interpreted this to mean I should change the phase from 0 to 180 on all four subwoofers, which I did. Was this the right move?

    • @ocaudiophile
      @ocaudiophile Před 3 dny

      Your polarity inversion method is correct but two sub impulses mixed as one might confuse Evo's calculations. Hope you get good audible results.

    Hi! I know a new REW Beta is coming, so I am waiting to use your script. I *just* got a sub and using 2x Nubert nuBoxx b-40 in 2.1 setup. I did my first calibration w/ the sub from the MultEQ app. MultEQ is setting my Fronts to large and had set a checkmark to the sub "isReversePolarity", as I can see in ratbuddysey. (The sub is at default settings and -10db, normal polarity). What do I do? Clear the checkmark in the .ady file with ratbuddysey? (I can only GUESS that Audyssey set the sub to reverse polarity since it set the fronts to large, I already changed the fronts to small in AVR and 80 crossover of course).

    • @ocaudiophile
      @ocaudiophile Před 3 dny

      That setting has nothing to do with subwoofer polarity (despite its name), it determines lpf frequency for the sub. Evo correctly adjusts it for your sub(s).

    @acaudiophile Thanks again for your continuing work - really appreciated by so many of us here. A couple of issues I have noticed. I have just downloaded and run v3 (using REW Beta 42) and the resulting curves shown in REW show two 'FL' results - the FR is not there... is this an REW issue? Will this result in a faulty .ady output by the script? Also, Is it OK that the SW is reported at the wrong distance? All other speakers measure OK - is this an issue with the initial ady or with Evo?

    When I was doing the measurements, the Audyssey app had me lower the volume of my four subwoofers (2 y-adapters) to 2.5 (to get them in the green). In a previous comment, @ocaudiophile recommended leaving the subwoofers in the green to do the calibration. Now that I have installed EVO, will it screw everything up if I bump up the subs a bit? It seems like having all the volume knobs turned all the way down to 2.5 really limits the bass. I was thinking of bumping up the subs to about 3.5. All four subs are identical.

    • @johnotoole2617
      @johnotoole2617 Před 4 dny

      I was of the same opinion last weekend, subs had to be set really low to get them in the green, and was I thinking ... I can run this and then bump them up afterwards. However, as a rule, we just don't like change from what we think we like, so I took the advise offered elsewhere in the comments, and just lived with them as per the calibration. The whole system has never sounded so cohesive before this. I used to think I liked heavy bass, but to be honest, it sounded a bit disjointed and not in step with the rest of the audio. For me, I'm am just going to trust the process and OCA .... see where it goes. Have a go, see what you think.

    I just transferred EVO's optimization to my Denon AVR-6700. The most concerning thing might be that my small surround back speakers were set to large and the crossover was set at 60hz. My surround back speakers are small and have always been recognized as small by two different receivers. The crossover has always been automatically set at 110 or 120. Still, I haven't changed anything except what EVO told me to change in the log. I want to put it through its paces before I tweak anything.

      The script aligns the sub against front speakers or centre speaker. You are free to set the crossovers for the other speakers as you like without if having an effect on the calibration. Remember that the scripts follows your measurements and doesn't know the limitations for you system.

      It's optimized and OCA has removed measurements that are not needed to speed up transfer time to AVR. So, file size should be smaller in v3

    My Denon AVR-6700 supports two subwoofers. I am running four subwoofers with two y-adpaters. When I ran the Audyssey MultiEQ app, it had me turn my subwoofers all the way down to 2.5 (out of 10) to get them in the green. Should I put them on 5 and take the measurements again before I enter the results into EVO? I'm getting very little bass from these measurements.
