This time we managed to make a mini chain saw which is used for pruning and cutting wood that are not relatively wide. The advantage of this tool compared to a pruner is that it can cut quite thick branches.

Unless I missed it, the two halves should have been dowel pinned together since the are roller bearings riding on them. Second, I don’t see the need for a split nut in the first place as the threaded arbor is fed through the trunnions.
@1bigapple2 I posted a reply to a similar question above. My evaluation of the theory of the split nut is repeated here: I am also unable to find any detailed information regarding the use of a split nut in an English wheel. But a search of the internet describes generally how a split nut provides greater precision of positioning of the screw because the backlash is less than a standard nut when reversing the direction of the screw inside the nut while opening and closing the gap between the two wheels. This opening and closing the gap between wheels is the key to how the wheels perform their magic. (Remember, backlash is inevitable) I can also envision how the precision of the split nut can be adjusted to reduce the slop caused by wear of the threads after the split faces of the nut halves are precision ground with a surface grinder, as it is ground during the original construction shown in this video. Wear on the threads is inevitable over the life of the tool. That grinding will make the screw and nut mesh tighter with less backlash when the split is reground with a surface grinder.
