7 meters from the ground to the top. Our water supply is a well with pump up to the water tank, then gravity fed out to the faucets. At some point we’ll upgrade to an automatic water pump to maintain supply and pressure. That’s another project!

Yes - always projects! Laos is far enough inland (no coastline) that there are few if any typhoons. Any would have to travel over Thailand or Vietnam before landing in Laos. The only natural disasters we’ve heard of are landslides in the mountains (during the rainy season) and a freak earthquake in the northern provinces.

Lao is definitely an eating culture…Lao people live to eat and socialize. Funny observation about showers. Since we moved here, I find myself taking ~ 3 showers a day! It’s so humid, that’s a nice way to cool off. Lao culture is very similar to Thai.

Medical care seems very different here compared to the US…in our experience the doctors don’t push unnecessary procedures or medication…maybe a result of the medical insurance situation being different.

@retire_recharge_roam After living here, most of my life, with the level of distrust that the sickness industry has earned, it seems unbelievable that there are doctors that actually help their patients. Wow! Over here, I would trust a janitor with my health before a doctor. At least, a janitor does possess some type of skills. Doctors......don't.

BBQ pork can be pretty good here (this place in Tha Bo is a favorite so far), but have yet to find a decent BBQ beef brisket place. It's hard to reproduce a good mesquite smoked BBQ brisket (even in the States)!
