GETTING NEW WHEELS FOR MY LAND ROVER DEFENDER!
I bought a 3D printed rear badge with custom writing from a guy on facebokk. Can sendndetails if you are jnterested.
Honestly… I hate the clear lens trend lol. It just looks so bleh. Adding some colour back there is the right look for sure mate. As for the badge, I’d have a metal one done up like on Scout and riveted on. But that’s just me.
Agree, happy I made the swap back to coloured lenses, just looks right! I’m really torn on the badges, so won’t commit to riveting on for now 😂
Truck is looking great now. Where did you get the bolts from for the rear crossmember?
Thank you! These are from ORE, you can get them here - bit.ly/4dFnwLO
Rear mud flaps? Badge you have is perfect for Blue.
Yes! Need to get them fitted up
I think the coloured lenses look absolutely spot on... Completely agree that it suits the rest of the build and gives the look you are going for. As for the badge, go for it... If you change your mind later you can always take it off... but I think it will look great! Doing cracking work Zach! 👍
Really pleased I swapped them out! As you say, super easy to change back at a later date
Looks great
Thank you!
Do you have a link to those fancy rear crossmember bolts?
Sure they are from here - ore4x4.co.uk/shop/coburn-fasteners/defender-stainless-xmember-bolt-kit/
Link in the description too
The old badge goes well with the canvas and the coloured lights in my opinion. Nice choice. Keep the videos going. Thanks.
Thanks! Yeah I’m tempted by the older badge too - I’ll keep them coming 👍🏼
Nice work, maybe leather on the doorcards as a next job!
Nice idea! I need to look at getting the dash top retrimmed too
Hi Zac, project blue is really coming together. Any chance you could make a video of blue ‘on the road’? Would be good to see what you think of the soft top and other mods. Plus - we may only have another month of warm weather!! I am thinking of a trip to the coast perhaps? I guess one issue is this is a 2 seater and you now have a family. Any thoughts how you could accommodate 3 of you in Blue? Or is that not part of the plan?
Thanks! That’s a good shout - I definitely need to make a ‘first road trip’ film - as you say, a bit harder with a little family. Plan is to put rear bench seats in, but not the best for a car seat 😅 I supposed the other option is a third seat in the front
Great job Zac All coming together superb pal 👍
Thanks so much 👍🏼
Great video again and those handles and hinges look fantastic. The Exmoor trim kit is really good quality and value, well done for selecting a british brand 👍
Thank you mate! Stoked with how it's all looking
Td5 driven daily 262k miles going strong
£400 for two handles. Wow!! They look great but that’s big money for a handle.
👍👍👍👍🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷👍👍👍👍👍😊
Wing mirror arms!
Good shout! I need to get them sorted
How do you lock it?
I actually didn’t fit the lock in this video, but you can simply transfer the old lock to these new handles
For the awkward bolt... just drill a hole one the panel in front of it and use a screwdriver! Ed @ HRH Imports
Ahh! Nice idea, would have saved me a lot of pain
These upgrades really do tie it all in together like you say... The metal finish really sits well with the original Cairns blue and the sand colour canvas. Another job well done Zach! 👍🙂
Thanks so much! I’m loving how it’s coming together
Are you sponsored by "Exmoor Trim"? Free products maybe?
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Have you still got your side panels and if so would you like to sell them?
Sorry they have now been sold
Nice job. 👍 maybe some grease on the hinge bolts would be good. 👍
Anyone know what the paint code is for this defender? As i want to get mine this colour
@@fredjones234 I’m not sure the actual code, but the colour is called Cairns Blue
Doing a grand job Zac Congrats mate 👍
I bet the mantec sills would look good painted gunmetal. Guessing u would be fitting matching window blocks . Just had to insure my 110 and they wanted 4x the price of last year.
Hadn't even considered gun metal sills! Really like that idea
May have missed it but where did you get the stainless steel finishers from?
Not sure I mentioned it actually, but I've put a link to where I got my set in the description
Thank you! Your 90 is looking great.
incredible 👍
Thank you 🙌
I would definitely want the mudguards. Would the old style Land Rover logo mud guards work for this build? I would also want a spare wheel. Firstly, I think the Land Rover looks better with the spare wheel on. But secondly, and perhaps more importantly, I think the spare wheel has genuine utility - especially on a Land Rover. You don't want to be on the side of the road just because you didn't put the spare wheel on. And everyone driving past making their usual assumptions about why you are "broken down". Nah, not having that. Not on my watch, anyway!
I would put the spare on the rear wheel carrier but as I understand it, the ORE wheel carrier for the full rear door doesn't work with the half door that you now how installed. Can you retro fit it to work or will you have to get a new ORE wheel carrier for the half door.?
I have had a look and spoken to the guys at ORE - I just need to change the plate that mounts to the door for one specifically designed for a half door
Good to know. I thought it was more complicated than that.
I would use hammerite on the gear stick and pedals. No masking or removing and it gives that nice finish after. They do different colours now as well. 👍
Nice idea! That's a job for this weekend sorted
Awesome! Would you please share the link? Much appreciated!

How's the Puma vs TD5's reliability for Africa expeditions?
What about the new defender white wheels. That would look awesome. Or even standard steel wheels in white....
Oh nah bro. What about a hired spray gun setup. Do it right the first time
You can use heatshrink on the gear lever to give it that fresh new look. Plus if it gets damaged it’s easy enough to cut the heat shrink off and fit another bit
Nice idea!
The original colour lights would look great or smoked with the blue would look cool, definitely put the ORE wheel carrier back on, Standard straight front bumper is the way to go, coir matting I like that think about it in the back as well, the steering wheel is a little faded and would look good freshened up black but also a nice wood rimmed would look awesome. good luck with the rest of the build.
🤙Looks great.. it’s all in the preparation.. which you did an awesome job of…
Wooden steering wheel for sure, and a silver mesh grill
I would definitely put the spare on a swing away rear carrier unless classic skinny wheels your ones will be too big for the bonnet . Other things I would do would be classic military style rear bumperettes , possibly painted silver ,with silver rear crossmember and silver painted front bumper . Classic land rover fold down rear and side steps. Series 3 door bottoms and sliding glass tops which you can then remove in the summer when you roll the canvass sides up, or take it off altogether. In addition you can fit old style 90/110 windscreen hinges so you can then fold the windscreen down onto the bonnet !. Classic polished wooden steering wheel too. A silver or mesh grill would then round off a properly retro truck look .
When tackling the dash: Obviously get vent surrounds. Consider a rev counter. Easy job for a td5, mostly wiring, as u need to tap into the ecu for a signal.
Spare wheel on the rear, weight on member. Anything else (on rear door or bonnet) will fail. Noooo! Do not body-color headlight surround, looks wrong. Good idea to paint mirror backings, use black color. Splash out on proper rust protection , Fluidfilm, wax oil or similar. You never aid what the intended use for the car: Long or short journeys? On- or offroad?? Kinda defines what mods you will be advised on. Consider: Wheels: Gearing, revs and noise. Noise proofing: Maybe not so valid for an open top. Get relays for the headlight current flowing not trough dashboard. Is it kept in a garage or not? Is theft a concern? If so, consider security upgrades. Bulkhead removal for better cabin space. Nice video and camera work, well done.
It is looking great! 👌 If you’d gone with bare galvanized capping on the bed and the rear, I’d say leave it without the spare tire to show it off. But since it’s painted and one uniform colour, it looks like something is missing to my eye. Were it mine, I would put the tire carrier back on.
Thanks! You make a good point about breaking up the panels now that they are painted
My dash and binnacle are also messed up - missing fasteners and broken tabs. I recently saw a metal binnacle and binnacle mount from a company called Raptor Engineering that I thought would be a good option.
Yeah I’ve seen these too - look like a good solution to all the tabs being broken and cracked, I’ll have to look into it
Bravo, the beast looks fantastic!
Thanks a lot!
Looks great! I’d go no rear spare wheel carrier, and I’d keep the clear rear lights as well
I’ve just sent a message on instagram about the LED lights, 90’s looking great!
MMMMM, I'd rethink the inward-facing rear bench seats and opt for two forward-facing and actually usable seats. My opinion...
Also, resto is looking great!
Thanks!
Yes, put ORE rear tire carrier. You should have a spare tire,so....
Yep, I think it’ll be going back on
