To be fair, we should also mention that us the taxpayer subsidize the already highly profitable oil and gas industry to the tune of trillions of US dollars, both nationally and globally. While EVs won't save the world, they certainly provide some competition to established technologies which is already benefiting consumers even if they don't purchase an EV. I do agree with you that battery technology still needs some major advancing in order to be both affordable and equal in performance when it comes to range and charging as ICE vehicles. However, we have seen some significant advances in just the last decade so I do think that in about 10 to 20 years about half of all cars in places like Germany will be EVs. As for long haul trucking, that likely will be remain ICE for a bit longer. An example here about the market deciding things would be the slow but steady moving away from coal mining in places like the US and Germany. Renewables are already cheaper sources of energy. Countries like Saudi Arabia which pretty much have economies that rely primarily on fossil fuels, are already attempting to diversify their economies. They don't do it because of the lofty goal of saving the planet but rather because their dictatorial regimes know that their continued rule and survival depends on it.

The EVs market is in small to mid range cars in Europe and Asia. The cyber truck is massive and expensive. Very few people own pickups in Europe even in the countryside. A car as heavy as the cyber truck requires special license in Europe, a license that is expensive to get and most people don’t have and I don’t think Europeans would be keen on getting such a license just to buy the cyber truck. The design is also completely for wrong for Europe no European would be caught dead in any thing this over the top and vulgar looking. When Europeans buy expensive vehicles they buy legacy brands, porsche, Ferrari, Bentley, BMW etc. the people buying EVs in Asia don’t have tons of money and live in cramped overpopulated cities with little to no parking and there are a lot of small cheep Asian made EVs for a fraction of the cost of a cyber truck. I have problem imagining a worse product than the cyber truck in the history of car manufacturing. It’s such a massive misallocation of resources that I wouldn’t be surprised if it puts Tesla out of business.

A good topic for a future video could be fast charging versus destination charging. With an EV you usually don't go down to near empty and then recharge it to 100%, that's very bad for the battery. Instead, use a narrow band of let's say 50 to 80%. Charge frequently, charge slowly, over night, while you're at work, at the shops etc.

Yep, it's a Ponzi scheme alright and it is now in collapse. In a nutshell, Tesla stayed afloat by selling-off their carbon credits (which they gained by exclusively producing "zero emissions" vehicles) to the other US automakers so that they could themselves continue to make Hemi & LS V8's to put in their big SUV's & pickup trucks (which continue to be in high demand). Tesla vehicles themselves were actually loss-makers as they cost far more to produce than Musk was selling them for, however the cash coming in from GM, Chrysler & Ford from the sale of these carbon credits more than offset these losses and enabled Tesla to actually show a profit. Now that GM & Chrysler have discontinued production of their gas-guzzling V8 engines in favour of more fuel-efficient turbo-charged V6's & I4's and hybrids (that will actually allow these companies to finally achieve their CAFE targets), Musk's income stream has suddenly dried-up, and he is f***ed.

A charging station that draws the current of 100 or even 1000 houses, is made out to be some really big deal, when many very small factories draw massively more than that. And John doesn't seem to have his head around the fact that if you charge these all these for a few minutes each throughout the day on high capacity, or all at once overnight for hours on a trickle charge, the overall average draw will be exactly the same. All around the world it is calculated that if every car was electric, electricity generation would only need to be increased by 20-25%. As this will happen over 20 years or more, the increase needed is only about 1% a year. And in many countries, new efficiencies (LED light bulbs, heat pumps, more efficient appliances etc) are actually creating the additional 1% spare capacity every year anyway. In Australia, generation from the likes of home and business solar is already creating nearly 20% of the countries power needs.

You say you hate people who lie about EV and misrepresent them - isn't that exactly what you do, with the likes of saying they are prone to going on fire when a petrol car is 20 times more likely to go on fire (i.e. 2500 petrol and diesel car fires just in NSW, every year, compared to ZERO EV batteries going on fire in Australia from spontaneous combustion or from charging, in 14 years.)

Battery issues are not the only issues with the electric vehicles. Motor bearings are also a major issue due to inverter induced voltage on the bearings resulting in shorter life of the motor and high repair high costs

Hello John I had a similar story with Subaru when the eyesight camera failed just out of warranty. The brake light switch was faulting for a week, when I received a recall notice for the bls. The faults lights caused by the bls error cleared except for the eyesight camera. Subaru want $7000 for the part plus installation to fix it. Under ‘good will’ they would not cover the repair. The eyesight isn’t serviceable and when you start the car it checks the eyesight camera in normal routine. I would expect it should last the life of the car. I declined the expensive repair and the eyesight camera isn’t operational, including linked feature like cruise control. It would appear they have dodged my Aust consumer law rights. What would you advise?

I had an adventure with Tesla several years ago when I took a job at the battery factory in Sparks Nevada. This was one of the most disorganized, toxic places I ever worked populated with snotty, arrogant, incompetent managers (these are my humble opinions based on experience). I knew I had made a mistake on the first day of orientation when the whole time was dedicated to "selling" us on how great it was to work at Tesla and how we would have a great future there. You already made the sale morons, now get on with giving people useful information about their new work place (HR at it's incompetent finest). I was so glad when I escaped that place. Their cars are a lot nicer than this work environment would suggest. For a company that makes some good looking cars this Cyber Truck ranks up there with the Pontiac Aztec and the AMC Pacer as one of the ugliest things on the road. To me it looks like someone cobbled it together in their garage while on an acid trip. I'd like to think it was a good company before, as you put it, Electric Jesus got involved. John, you have a great channel, a wit that is as sharp as a surgeon's scalpel, and a delivery that rivals Jack Webbs. Imagine in Victoria where Chairman Dan, before he signed off, made all new Home construction - Electric Only. He also stated that those with natural Gas appliances need to change to Electric. Add that demand at peak times from say 16:00 - 20:00 hrs and try and charge all these EV's - Where the Big F is this power coming from , Did Dan discover Fission reaction power generation? Not on your Nelly. Victoria shuts down Hazelwood and Yallourn and the Portland Natural gas generation, then put tones of Solar panel farms to generate Power during the Day, how do we manage . As peak demand is at Zero Solar production time or low productipon duri g the few months of summer afternoon sunlight. Add to that pesky wind won't Blow 24/7 for those big wind farms. Got me stuffed where we will get this magic Electricity. Nuclear seems the only feasible solution. but the Greenies and Labour wont agree to that Welcome to the new Dark ages me thinks.
