Most simple domestic rooftop PV installations do not continue to provide power if the power from your electricity provider goes off. The inverter will quickly shut down. To be able to keep generating when the supply from your electricity provider goes off you must have a "grid forming" inverter installation.
@@keithfisk5641 'Most' That's a rather broad caveat duuuude....
Is that battery one of those light your fire lithium ones? Bolted on your house?
Not really, Seems to be quite true.
Mine also cuts out, It's so that if there are any linesman working on the power lines, They aren't going to get fried by all the solar panel owners feeding back into the grid.
I had a 2.2 Austin. It was enormous inside, light and went like the clappers. The 6 cylinder, twin SU FWD may be laughable now, but it could leave many sports cars of the time behind. Mitsubishi Starion Turbo being a personal 'kill'. Due to it's wide and square stance, it also didn't handle badly. No Hydrolastic suspension. The rear shocks designed for five adults, not one teenager. It handled like an oversized Mini.
“Movement that inspires”, I have one of those each morning.
"Inspired a Movement".
Yeah, you can’t beat a good shit!
I frequently have one every morning. In fact when I don't I know my day is going to be shit. :D
What? Only one?
I think, as a marketing effort, it's 100% perfect.
It got YOU to talk about it for 20 minutes to 388k subscribers. What more do Kia really want?
Sales?
A decent ute would be handy …
Kia hasn’t exactly got a brilliant track record
Half done POS ain’t gonna scare ranger / Hilux
Hazbeen sports people who should have really got a real job years ago….
Discussing something they haven’t a clue about …
There’s a news item
I-amakok … now there’s a great name for a ute …. Quite appropriate really
@batmanlives6456 Kia ranked higher than Toyota for reliability for the last 3 years running (JD Power) - pretty good. If you're talking about product meeting demand, well their sales are pretty good in the non-ute segments 🤷♂️
The P-76 was actually one of the best cars ever built in Australia till the Union went on a sabotage campaign.
I actually worked on the production line & would watch the blue caps exchange things like the brake boosters every time the assembly line was cranked up above the whopping 75 cars / shift ( from my unreliable drug affected brain ) .
Thus when it came time to instal the brake booster unit it would not fit through the predrilled hole so one worker would sit in the windscreen cavity holding the unit while another swung the largest rubber sledge hammer onto the master cylinder a few times to make new holes through the firewall .
When the production line went faster still they would swap the keys in the steering locks so the car could not be started causing the one behind to give it a rear ender as it rolled off the line. My particular effort in this fiasco was the thread the wiring loom around to the 2 rear lights & to do this ( originally ) I would grab the boot hing support brackets then swing into the boot which was a lot easier & quicker than crawling through the rear window hole .
I stopped doing this when the brackets would rip out because they had never been welded & were held in place with black jack .
Being a bit cranky from landing on the boot lip I made a complaint to one of the blue caps to be told to shut up & go away if I did not want to be another industrial accident .
This is why the car that should have made Leyland Australia a world beater failed miserably and I might add they had a bonus scheme if every one turned up & clocked on 15 minutes before shift start so the section leading hand would punch all of the teams cards and just 2 of us could do the work of the full 8 person team comfortably .SO when he had his crib break, that left just 1 person to do the work of 8 which was just doable for an hour or so .
We used to take turns not coming in & I never ever saw 8 people at our station .
It was some sort of industrial action about Tongan workers, or Tongan strike breakers, can't really remember but I stayed on after the uni holidays to work the hight shift for the following year and nothing changed.
The a bit latter on I was with Sims when the unreleased models were sent through the car shredder .
I am usually an advocate for unionism , but this was a real eye opener . GM had just closed the Pagewood assembly line & I hear similar things were happening there .
The exact reason why we have very little industry and ef all employment.
A reason why I don't have any time for unions or labor BS.
It was a country with potential to be the leader, but now destroyed.
Anything that was going to benefit this country ended up overseas and thrived, they knew why.
@@cameronjohnston5748
"The exact reason why we have very little industry and ef all employment."
---
It was always going to happen. Unions or not.
Our economy was always going to lose manufacturing, as it isn't as profitable to ship parts and product to and from. This is exacerbated by our f*#ked up housing market making labour more expensive.
----------------
"A reason why I don't have any time for unions or labor BS."
---
Labour Unions are by far the best thing for workers. Don't blame the unions for making workers lives better. Blame the fat cats for eking every drop of profit from everyone they can exploit.
-----------------
"It was a country with potential to be the leader, but now destroyed.'

No.
Again geographically challenged. High cost of living.
We are just very barely not the global south, and we very might end up a part of the global south as soon as we are no longer of use to the capital owning class in the US.
The US are not our friends. We are simply useful for them for the time being.
If it wasn't for unions you would not have sick leave, 4 weeks annual leave , long service leave and a safe working environment. All this if you are a union member or not!
@@martinburns342 As I said, I am usually an advocate for unionism but they need to be forced to follow proper business practices, like having their financial accounts audited and that audit distributed to all members and of course, secret elections & industrial action ballots .
@nerdy_dav I disagree strongly. The unions just line there own pockets. The workers who work harder get nothing extra. The lazy f still gets paid the same
If Kia wants to sell the Tasman, they need to install an auto tailgating function to lure Ranger drivers over to Kia. Adjustable for distances to rear bumper of the car in front with auto hi-beam flash. Gives them more time to wave arm out the window.
I can’t see it being taken seriously until Seano, Grahame, Jesse and Jock from 4WD-24/7 have taken it for testing with a trip to Cape York. If they want the attention of the market, that’s exactly who they should have featured in the ad.
And they fit all the overpriced bullshit from ARB, TJM, ETC. And that stuffs up the GVM.
it will most likely be a two wheel drive farm/work type Ute with a alloy tray, it won't be fit for serious off road lol
Only about 10% of these things are seriously offroaded. So most buyers don't care. But still fit all that aftermarket bullshit so it looks like they do.
You missed Russell Coight!
Most Aussies think the bigger the lift kit and more expensive the accessories they have on a ute makes it go faster ????
Love that relationship between Tasman, Newton and the Apple Isle. 16:36
I still remember the Austin Tasman car back in the 70s John mate, 😊😊😊.
I wonder if the KN version will act like the Leyland version?
Thanks for bringing that up … I thought I had successfully blocked it from my consciousness 🤯🔫
PS what about its team-mate the Morris Gonad (or was that Nomad?)
JC you’ve done it again, brilliant satire, thank you!
You know, if they made a twin turbo Stinger Ute, that might prompt me to look up for my Wheaties, but it’s just going to be another Thailand ute, from South Korea…
Yeah I wouldn't get real hopeful about that, it will be tall, very square, black grill, lots of vents, large tyres and bought by toolies. People who look like they might use tools, but are just tools behind the wheel as they driver over the medium strip in a hook-turn, don't have to give way any more and clogging up the boat ramp with their jet ski
@@krissteel4074 Yep, that’s what I meant by a Thailand ute. There’s no way anyone’s going build a traditional Aussie style ute, like the old Falcon, Commodore or, if you’re old enough, Valiant ute. Those days are over…
KIA's new 'KN UTE, would have been more BCF'n' Fun.
Kia seems to be a competent carmaker, so I wouldn't be surprised if the Tasman turns out to be a success. Maybe it will even be over-engineered, being their first foray into the ute market.
Agreed, I think it will be a big success in Oz. Look at how far Kia/ Hyundai has come over the last 20 years.
Maybe better to wait for the more upmarket Kimberly version?
Four square headlamps: Overkill.
@@AutoExpertJC A bit more luxurious too. My father owned one and it wasn't too bad. Certainly better than a 6 cylinder Marina!
I would hold out for the straight Six Blue Flame Engine between the McPherson Struts - Nissan Copied that engine and put it in the 240k that came in behind an RX2 in a very Wet Bathurst in the under 3 Litre Class
@@AutoExpertJCand two SU’s!!! Twice the leaks!!!
@@satanslittlehelper3 Austin's Blue Streak Six was an all cast iron, 4 cylinder, BMC B series pushrod engine with 2 cylinders added, the 240K used the SOHC alloy head Nissan L24 series engine that was modelled on a Mercedes engine design. Nissan did copy the Blue Streak Six however, but I believe it was only used in (for Australian market cars anyway) the mid '60s Nissan Cedric (J20 engine).
If it's not a Mitsubishi Johns going to bag it. Got to keep the sponsors happy.
Coal emissions are second only to those of a certain building in Canberra.

Your journalistic talents shine through. I have no idea how much time you spend producing your work but it is wonderful. Reference to effluent carrier is an improvement on "shitwah". A perfect description of most adverts made today , made those with a degree in Knowing ---- All.
I remember the Button Plan to clean up the Car manufacturing in the 1970's . What a success that was.
Now there's a thought, a Tasman ute. After all, the Austin Tasman was a re-engineered Land Crab 1800, and they made an 1800 ute. Just graft the Tasman front half to the 1800 ute back 😁😁🤩
They did make two like that, intended for production. But Tasman and Kimberly were not doing well enough to have more models.
I can see CZcams getting hammered soon with car jernos saying this is the hilux killer at half the price 😂😢
I hope there ute is going to be good as most of KIA vehicles are better than average
All Kias are better than any aussie built junk.
Kia reliability is a question mark imho
Is that why they give a 7 year unlimited kilometre warranty?@@billybobbruce
@trevorwilson2966 You obviously haven't seen the class actions and the thousands of unhappy Hyundai/Kia owners with blown engines, cars catching on fire and a myriad of other issues.
I worked in a vehicle repair shop. Kia diesels tend to blow up at around 200k...
A Clayton's ute. The ute you're having when you're not having a ute .
It'll probably be quicker than the Hilux slug.
After watching that KIA ad, it certainly gave me a movement.
Did you make it in time?
Thank you very very much for your support of solar enery !!! Let us use the sunshine for a better future.
Yes we got Solar & a Tesla Powerwall 2 years ago. No power outages. Battery runs the house including aircon all night. Export covers the daily charges - mostly.
I fail to understand why everyone doesn’t have Solar & a Battery. It also should be compulsory when building a new home (with some few exceptions).
I'm a Tasmanian and think I might need one of these utes!
I thought that everyone in Tasmania already had a ute? They did last time I was there, but admittedly, that was a few years ago.
Tasman… Room for the whole “family”!😂
As a bonus, your solar will reduce heat inside your roof. It’s insulating against the sunshine ☀️.
Against your better advice I clicked the link and viewed the video, I lasted 30 seconds before going to the fridge to take out an 8% Belgium beer to help me recover. Whoever came up with the idea for the advert must have been on a 24 hour bender drinking Bud light.
Hey John You ok mate? Nailed it great job.

The Tasman Ltd was Tasmania’s crack diesel passenger train up until 1978, nine hours Hobart to Wynyard.
Wynyard Tasmania, not Wynyard in Sydney CBD, I presume...

Hi John i all ways look forward to your posts, its great having lots of laughs. Maybe you should call the posts Auto expert comedy show.
Hey john can i ask where you got the shirt ? Mine reverts to sheeple not warriors
Hi John the word Tasman brings shivers down my spine, brings back memories of the Prince of Darkness Joseph Lucas and the great engineering genius of British Leyland. As an ex auto elect we suffered from their genius of this piece of British Crap !
Absolutely love the comments here. The dry humour relating to the Tasmanian "bush" made my day. Thanks JC
You have a way with words JC!
March 14..... will it be Johns humble pie day?
Off topic John. Do house batteries self combust like the hesus cars?
No The Tesla Powerwall batteries don't self combust BUT check out the recalls on the LG house batteries for a giggle
Of course there’s always that chance that one would spontaneously combust all these things use lithium ion batteries like in EVs, Hybrids and devices. Just so you know we’ve already had Tesla megapack storage battery fires in Rockhampton in Queensland and in Geelong in Victoria.
a couple of questions on your sponsor (solar) how much warranty on the solar panels? how much warranty on the battery pack? life expectancy of battery pack and replacement cost?
I also remember to Tasman and Kimberly, soon followed by the P38 yes 38 as it was only half a car.
Remember the three-pronged ute?
I'm thinking same result.
The last Tasman vehicle I recall, had an english heritage called AUSTIN nes pas ?
I have 5.5kw solar panels and use all major appliances during the day,but will never have a battery on my property, stationary or with wheels

Would have been nice to actually see the Tasman or the ad. Waiting in suspense
KNs blue singlet version of "Please Consider"?
As a precynical young man in about 1975, I had the privilege of driving taxation investigators around to spread their joy.
To achieve this goal, I was provided with a new P76. On of the ones the government picked up cheap as a reward for propping up the gross incompetence of Leyland.
One notable experience was racing a concrete truck up Mount Ousley out of Wollongong. I lost.
Another moment of joy came on President Avenue Sutherland, where the clutch cable decided it would rather be two pieces than one. As I waited for the tow truck, I contemplated whether you would normally expect to get more than 5000 km out of a clutch cable.
I've since heard the usual cries about jobs being lost when this or that enterprise is being closed, and reflect on whether they are really a loss.
Subaru are also talking about bringing back the Brat / Brumby. Honda should also start selling the Ute down under I think
If it can stick to the original plan/idea then it may be a winner. A small ute with some off-road capability, ie, a couple of bales across the paddock, not something to carry the tractor through the grand canyon erosion ditch. Something to carry the tools to where the tractor keeled over. While also nice to have the quick run into town in.
Lesbians rejoice!
Honda have a ute in the u.s.a
Might be a rebadged unit from isuzu@@petersaunders7535
In the KIA advertisement at 0 : 57 the dart lands on the TASMAN SEA. :)
As we all know, it's the KIA TASMAN ute. All bets are off. :)
It is a fantastic advertisement. The best car ad for a long time. Well done KIA. :)
Thank you.
Hi John. Great video. Love it when you take the piss. I can’t believe how many people have been duped by the T60 Ute. So if the Tasman is even slightly better than that then it should still do well.
let's hope we get an Abel Tasman !
Nice work JC 🎉
#MALS
Thank you mate.
My bluey Dave was outraged when he saw the Australian cattle dog in this add.
Cool... along with "Ranger Danger" we now will have a "Taman Tosser"
JD, I'm no marketing expert and I agree if this was just another Kia model you would be spot on.
However Kia is really pushing the boat out with a Ute, totally new not just to Kia but to Korean manufacturers. What I see is familiarity. This is easing people into the concept in a fun and comfortable way.
Cost? Well you know better than I how expensive it is to take a whole production team plus talent to Dingo Piss Creek for a few weeks to film all those blue singlet, beard stroking scenes, it's fucking expensive. A few as you say "has beens" in a bar? Not so much.
You of course note the vehicle is never seen.
I think you actually understand what's going on here but are taking the provocative approach.
We both know the product will be featured in ads will follow that may be more traditionally 'utey', but will probably still be a bit edgy for the class.
Just waiting for the Radar, Maxus, JAC or the Hyundai Electric Utes coming soon. I like the idea of having 220v and 3 Phase on tap.
Will there also be taswoman?
Who are all those has beens in the Kia add ?
Is that "Jan" from the Yellow Pages ad from the 1990s as the bartender?
Don't diss the Mighty Boy and Brumby.
Sheepshagistan is a good one.
You left it almost to the encore to mention the Austin Tasman. Cheers for doing this.
I noticed you didn’t do a read of the newspaper article like the Carsauce guys. The wave of new 4x4 products is going to be interesting.
Looking at KIA road cars, currently. I’m sure it will be spectacular! 😂
Third most reliable brand - 2023 JD Power dependability study. So there’s that.
Yes Im still not sold on KIA being a quality brand yet.
Does anyone else see the rip of in this add from Ineos?
The Grenadier was named after the pub in which Ineos came up with the concept.....
As someone who doesn't follow sport, I had no idea who any of those people were (except Ash Barty) so all those references were lost on me. Guess I'm not the target market.
Any bets on Kia making an upmarket, "offroad" focused variant, and calling it the Kimberley? (Presumably designed to self-destruct on the Gibb River Road.)
Tasman ? , TASMAN ?? , FFS I still remember the Austin Tasman !!! .
Bad .
Should do a segment on Vehicle insurers and how they can rip you off or quote way under market value in fine print. Found a couple that quote a Ford F6x is valued at 4 to 6 grand but they resell at 30 to 45 grand. Yet they want to charge you $700+ to insure. Somehow, they class them as the bottom of the line when they are above Ghia's. Also way under quoted some GT's.
I thought "Johnny Appleseed" invented the apple...oh well.
A 'true' ute is a single cab, 2/3 seater, with a decent tray. I've had 2. Holden and Ford. Car based with a tray
Don’t forget Dodge/Valiant. These modern monstrosities aren’t Utes they’re bloody pickups.
What a gifted orator.
So will the Tasman be on top, just below the HiLux? Or will it be down south?
Kia is targeting 10% of the ute market in Oz, about 20,000 units per annum. Hilux and Ranger will still be market leaders in my opinion.
Pricing will be competitive with Hilux and Ranger in my opinion. Kia will not play in the value end of the market.
is this just going to be their santa cruz "sport activity vehicle" from the usa or are they actually building a light truck?
A completely new design, a ute; as it's called in Australia or a light truck in the USA. Toyota Hilux is a key competitor.
In Australia, it will most likely be a 4 cylinder 2.2TD engine with 150kw and 500Nm of torque and an 8-speed TC gearbox.
Fleece Grease - AKA Kiwi aftershave?
It's just an ad. Why so much criticism 😅 it could be a good one , we wait and see.
Yep got a Grey Import Prius PHV, enjoy 0.92l/100kms. Lucky to buy 10-15l every 6-8 weeks. Most "fuel" coming from the 10kWh Sonnen Battery and solar roof panels. Had it 2 years done 30,000kms without incident.
How'd you manage to grey import it?
Was imported by Jace Auto in Mitcham Vic. If you search Prius 2018-2024 on Car Sales, you’ll find plenty of them. More especially now that Toyota has dropped it as a model for now. Plug in Way to GO. More especially if you do predominantly round town motoring.
That was a weird add, i actually don't know who half those crusty people were and completely missed what references they were reaching for, wow,, thanks for the priming my pump for what was coming. Didn't even get to see the ute, I feel like I have been stood up...and now im let down.
Im with you, dont know what the fuck they were on about.
I can forgive a lot of things, but come on, you gotta show the damn ute!
After seeing the ad, I thought the name was 'HOTEL' and they had a model called the 'TA'.
Beating the ranger isn't exactly a tall order John😂
I doubt the Kia Ute will be able to match it's rivals, but if it's good for a low price, it could cut out a niche. Still won't make the people still rocking Holden Ute's give up their battle worn chariots.
Considering KIA is the third most reliable brand - 2023 JD Power. I sure they will be fine.
Space BIG glasshouse ride but no handling I sorta liked em

Understeer can often be fun
Speculation about the Ute suggests that it’ll use the 2.2 diesel from the Sorento/Santa Fe vehicles.
Hope not, not if they want it to tow a 3.5t ATAS to Dingo PS.
That 2.2 will break more crockery in the caravan than a diesel patrol or LandCruiser. Got doubts about the running gear taking it. When I pulled over 3 tonne the fuel economy gave me a range of not much more than a Nissan leaf.
Who really tows 3.5t anyway? It's all a massive wank. 90% of utes never will so who cares. Also, that 2.2l isn't down much on power compared to a v8 79 series, but generates its torque earlier and revs faster.
A Sorento in a drag will leave a 79 in the rearview all day long.
Yes, I'm thinking that will be the case; with a TC gearbox from the Palisade. In my opinion the engine will be 'uprated' to 150kw and 500Nm, perhaps with a twin-turbo.
What's your thoughts about the Kia carnival hybrid, I am looking to buy one, but I am not sure whether to wait for the Hybrid or if should I buy the diesel..? A but curious if the 1.6L turbo will be enough for such a big car, specially when it's full with 6 occupants plus luggage 🤔
The 2.2TD engine has 440Nm of torque, much better than the hybrid.
If they get the price right, absolutely!
Every time you said Tasman, my body started shaking, and profanities involuntary started flowing from my mouth. I am traumatised now with flashbacks about the previous Tasmaa Tasmaa. See now I can't even say the word!!!
The LandCrab was available as a Ute
I remember when Nissan put its name on XF Falcon utes.
Builders would remove the Nissan badges so they didn’t get laughed off site for driving something with an Asian badge on it.
This may cop the same for a while until it starts eating into Ranger and Hilux sales.
All they have to do is make it better than those two (shouldn’t be hard) and price it slightly cheaper. That might be the hard part competing with 3rd world factory workers wages to build it.
Hey ... the P76 got CoTY !
