People need to stop buying Fuji cameras, once they feel the revenue hit they'll do something.

This needs to find its way into the CEO of Fujifilm's inbox!!!

This makes one wonder why Fuji isn't shipping this camera....supply chain or firmware issue? Are they afraid to keep shipping a camera with bad firmware?

Thank you for your video, this is important to put the light on these issues, I am currently thinking about changing for Sony because of AF performance (I only practice photography, no videos) How to download old firmware update ? I want to download 1.03 but on Fuji's website only the last one is available to download isn't it ?

I have tested the new firmware (7.0) with the h2-s and the xf 150-600 (an expensive combo supposed to be fast and accurate for wildlife) and ... nearly everything went wrong with the autofocus. I had many false positives. For example : I had the focus point locked on a peregrine falcon perched on a rock (the autofocus seemed to work pretty fast to track the bird). But when I looked at the actual photo, the bird was blurred and the moss on the rock was sharp. Call that an update? Fuji should ask Canon or Sony engineers for help.

Keep up the great work! As someone who really enjoys Fujifilm's cameras (am just a hobby photographer), the AF was always a pain for wildlife capture... Hoping Fujifilm hears you and actually works on proper fixes.

So if you use your camera in old fashioned normal single point s-AF the camera works fine?

No bird recognition at the Z6III. Z8 has it … 😢.

My suggestion is get a Sony. Fuji colour science isn't worth the headache.

As a photographer who daily used the Nikon F2as and F3 with zero autofocus, I use mostly manual or S still to this day. I own the XPro 1-3, and bought the XT5 40mp since the XPro 4 is not out yet. Glad I’m not a slave to any AF whatever the brand is…

Real question. Does the autofocus issue occurs in the Fujifilm GFX bodies too? If not then perhaps it's the limitation of the X-Trans sensor?

Fuji colors are great, but it's too late. After all these mess, I switched to A7IV 😂 I don't bother waiting for the 7.0 Update and I don't regret even after it has been released. Best decision ever although I missed Fuji colors.

If it is the AI thing, then Fuji should give us the option to turn on/off AI Autofocus

Video autofocus for birds and animal is horrible !!! I use lenses 100-400 and 150-600 it is a nightmare when I do a video. the focus box is flying everywhere!!!!!

As a birder I am tired of Fuji's .hit AF. And the worse thing I don't believe Fuji is willing to fix it. Beyond this problem Fuji cannot or doesn't or won't give a fast/bright wildlife lens to its customers. If you choosed Fuji system once then you have to ok with F8 lens without complaining for dark, cloudy days forever. I think Fuji is very happy with its tourist retro look cameras and the nostalgic users of them.

It is so sad that a camera manufacturer cannot even hire the right people to fix the problem. It is an old problem, yet they are releasing new cameras with the same issue. It is getting harder and harder to recommend Fuji as a camera system, which is very sad!

Man… my xt5 does this garbage

My XT4 is unusable after updating it to 2.11, pictures taken are extremely dark even though the exposure compensation settings and dial is by default. It was not like this before updating. I don’t know how to fix it

I wrote to Fuji about the sound and external microphone... no response.

Glad you made an update on this firmware. We were planning on to move from Sony's ecosystem to diversify in case one company goes wrong, much like Fujifilm's case I was thinking of trying Fuji, but your video came out just in time to the point we're gonna be looking for other next choice: Lumix. I love fuji personally for hobby but for professional work is definitely not. Thanks again edvard, and good point on the "prediction" part of the hardware.

I think the communication between lens and camera is somehow fucked up and slow. The most ridicilous is that even manual focus is unusable in video. It steps like shit and you see terrible pulsing in bokeh. I wouldn't mind using MF but even that is shit. I dont understand how this can be standart in 2024. I switched to fuji because I wanted something lighter after quitting photography carreer but didn't expect this with any latest mirrorless... Gonna sell that crap. And those people saying that they dont have problems... When I ask them to show me how they use rhe camera I'm like ok, I see now bye... coz they use single AF and manualy move their AF point like in 2010 on an old dslr... Of course they don't have problems 😅

Is it possible your camera is defective, because I have an xt3 and it's not that bad? I'll test my XT3 and see, but I'm sure it's not that bad.

If I had to rely on AF or did run and gun, the XH2-S would not be my first pick. Luckily I do 90% manual focus with cine lenses for video work, so I don't have to deal with the subpar AF. As for the photo side, the AF works okay with native lenses, but it's still not where it should be.

Hey, where can we find the old firmwares to downgrade? I do not find them online. I have tested the X-H2 for over a week now on FW 3.0. It is a lot faster and better than the X-T4 I have. I have used it for portraits and dog/bird AF. It does not recognize subjects all the time, I had the rare situation with 2 birds that it misfocused on a stationary bird even though the box was locked on it, but overall I am quite happy with the results. For birds in flight, even if they are very small in the image the AF is pretty amazing. You shouldn‘t go higher than 15fps in focus priority, but I do not need more usually and A7IV for example can‘t even do it. Will try it out even more, I haven‘t had problems as bad as you demonstrated here, with the eye detection going haywire. Some people seem to get good results and some really bad. I don’t do video but I want to sometime in the future. I hope Fuji realises where these problems occur and fixes them, but people need to contact them directly and not only upload to CZcams.

Just subscribed. Really good work from you Edvard! Unfortunately my entire ecosystem is Fujifilm... (started with X-T3) and I hoped with X-H2S and X-S20 will be new era. I can live with APS-C sensor, worse low light performance and worse bokeh but AF and decent IBIS is important. Any chance You will get X-S20 for test to check if this camera has the same AF issues? Probably should be similar performance as X-H2S. Also maybe some IBIS tests in some episode? I have Fuji body with IBIS and XF 16-80 with OIS and with super slow ninja movement (not even walking but changing slightly camera angle with my arms) I feel like I'm fighting against IBIS. This also makes footage unusable. Not even mentioning that quite modern lens like XF 16-80 you can't zoom in or zoom out because its losing focus immediately with adjusting focal lengths!

I used to shoot film years ago. Got back into photography via Fujifilm because of the mechanical nature and film recipes. Thought I was going crazy with all my photos being out of focus. Downgrading to 1.03 firmware.

As a fuji Xt4 and Xh2 Owner, I can confirm everything he said was right about Fujifilm. Fujifilm autofocus is 10 years behind the competition.

I owned Sony A7R2 and A7R3. I have Fuji XT4 and Xh2. I am fed up with false green eye and suto focus issues on Fuji. I have tried all the AF settings and nothing worked. Finally I gave up and I bought the Canon R5C. Never missed a shot and never had to check the autofocus settings., I don't even know where the AF setting is in the canon menu since I never had the need to tune it. Fuji AF is 10 years behind the Canon and Sony.

There should be a class action lawsuit on Fujifilm. Firmware 5.0 for Xh2 actually freezing the camera.

XH2 Owners beware. Don't upgrade to 5.0. My XH2 actually freezes after this update. Try this and most likely your camera will freeze. using the EVF try to focus on multiple persons by half pressing the shutter for like 4 or 5 times. Your camera will then freeze. The power button will not even power off. you will have to remove the battery.

Thank you so much for this video. It makes sense. Google, please send this gentleman $1000 check, he deserves it. It will be impossible to fix this autofocus problem anytime soon, if ever. As you pointed out there are basic fundamental problems, one of them is stepping exposure compensation instead of continues.

I think AI screwing things up. Not good implementation.

This autofocus looks really frustrating. I’ve the same issue even I use the XH2S for Talking Head. It just hunts and keeps loosing eye tracking even at f5.6. Last month I took this camera to record birds video with bird subject detection. It also keep loosing tracking on the bird, even I set auto focus tracking speed as the manual said, totally unreliable. It’s a great camera, yes, except the auto focus 🤦‍♂️

It appears to me that Fuji needs to rewrite autofocus algorithm from scratch.
