Soul Calibur is a series that istfg you cannot master. I’ve beaten people who played regularly with a character I’ve never touched before, and playing through the “story” mode of SC4 was maybe the most frustrating thing I’ve ever done in a game. He holds both of the fabled swords of the series, can take a third of your life and taunt by the time you stand up. I had to sell the game back or else I would have broken something.

I have developed this and also with getting platinum trophies on playstation. Getting a platinum trophy used to be an extra. Like hey I'm enjoying and playing this game so much I got the platinum trophy! Now it's a must. I even check the trophy guide before I start a new game if it's doable and it doesn't have outrageous requirements. If it does I might play the game but just to finish the story but most I won't even play it now. It's kinda crazy now that I think about it. Gaming feels like it's become more of chore for me.

Sometimes I just want to finish a great game I played and dropped. But I'm not gonna push myself if I don't want anything. What's the point then? It took me over 4 years to finish DS3. Because I played it ONLY when I wanted to play it. I could finish it in a week or month, but I only play games when I enjoy them and when I REALLY want to play them.

for whatever reason, when I got the option to unlock meditation, I didnt do it. I said, nah, i dont feel like being walked through an actual meditation, i got shit to do. then i FORGOT ABOUT IT and when i wanted to go to the next loop, i'd either wait or just fling myself into the sun to restart. Checked out videos and stuff I'd been avoiding as soon as i finished, discovered that saying yes to the meditation was actually useful. I legit thought I'd have to sit there and genuinely meditate in the middle of this game. Sigh

I’d love to see how much faster battles could be if they just stopped separating text messages into their own separate boxes. Pokemon enters battle gets its own box. Abilitys like Intimidate takes 2-5 seconds and get they’re own box, status gets text, your pokemon loves you in the middle of battle and gets text for that. Everything gets an entire separate box and it slows everything a crawl. It’s very frustrating playing the new games when things like Showdown exist that make all of it so much more streamlined in terms of how the information is presented and shown to the player.

When you follow the path the game wants and realize that you are too weak to fight the boss, then you check the gameplay and see that you missed an important weapon or item that could have helped you in the game, and the worst part is that you can't go back and collect those items. It feels like my whole hour is wasted due to ignorance.

One example I think of is 7 Days to Die - like Minecraft, you're aware of the relative time of day and night, so you have a little wariness about wasting time when outside during the evening, the caveat is in 7DaystoDie, zombies go from slowly walking to *running* when darkness falls. Not only that, the days are tracked; and on every seventh day the timer becomes red, ticking down until night - when a horde of the undead seek _you_ out. That alone has had me digging shallow ditches, repairing walls and throwing down spikes in a swift manner, anxiety welling up knowing that you had in-game days, then hours, minutes and then only seconds before the distinct and distant _screeching_ happens, signalling the arrival. Often I'm scrambling to get prepared, double-checking, aware that if I panic at all, there's a good chance a brain fart may happen and things are forgotten or helpful items go unused.

I've got a friend of mine who, let's just say is financially secure without work (not rich). They play games basically all day & we became friends almost 20 years ago due to our shared passion for gaming (& drinking, ah to be young). However due to his lack of responsibilities he burns through games at a pace close to a Mach 1 fighter jet. We've also enjoyed playing games together in co-op with our other friends for years, but they've all fallen aside in recent times due to responsibilities & poor time management. This has left the 2 of us to essentially be co-op buddies, which is great & I wouldn't trade it out. However the fact that I have a full-time job, other interests, a wife, enjoy older games too & have a massive backlog because games are all 100 hours now for some reason... Means I'm getting burnt out on almost all my gaming time being spent in co-op depaite still wanting to play games in co-op with them. Another factor is due to my other hobbies & such I've broken the "gotta 100% or bust" mentality that we both had when we were younger, meanwhile they haven't. So now our playstyles sometimes are at odds, as I'll still 100% on occasion but a game need to earn it for me while for them it's almost an addiction. Forgot where I was going with this, but great video series & it was worth your effort. Oh yeah! I bought a Neo Geo MVSX arcade cabinet recently & unplugging from chat (even while playing other games, which is our friend group tradition to keep in touch) has made me recapture what I loved about gaming on my own, the games.
