Of all the casualties of the unholy post-war alliance between the Nigerian military state and big oil, the Ogoni people were arguably amongst the worst hit. With the full blessing of the Nigerian government, the Royal Dutch Shell oil company was authorised to explore and extract oil from Ogoniland. While this was a win-win deal for Nigeria’s military generals and the oil giant, Shell’s entry in...

As far as African dictators go, there is probably no single greater illustration of the nuances and complexities that underpin dictatorships in Africa, than Joseph Desire Mobutu’s 31 year stint, as the leader of the nation known today as the DRC. One sided story. To get the true picture of what happened before, during and after the war the story must be balanced. This is not. One can guess the sentiment of the author/narrator.

  • @OMOALLI-zr5xe
    @OMOALLI-zr5xe Před 3 dny

    The narration deliberately left out the fact that apart from the political leaders of the Western and Northern Regions that were assassinated, top military officers of these two regions were also assassinated leaving military officers of the Eastern Region. So if this wasn't an igbo coup aimed at taking over the leadership of the country, then what do we call it? The narration is full of inaccuracies.

    Most importantly and without sentiments, let all the peoples of Africa and the world, at large take lessons from the needless war and keep striving for good governance and improved relations with other language, tongue or tribe...that will reduce conflicts in leaps and in bounds. We need more of moralist and humanitarian considerations in our day-to-day life. Best wishes to all!

Also, playing a not insignificant part in why Dacko and Bokassa never killed each other before, during, or after their coups against each? They were kin.

    "Socialism is a wonderful idea. It is only as a reality that it has been disastrous. Among people of every race, color, and creed, all around the world, socialism has led to hunger in countries that used to have surplus food to export.... Nevertheless, for many of those who deal primarily in ideas, socialism remains an attractive idea -- in fact, seductive. Its every failure is explained away as due to the inadequacies of particular leaders." -Thomas Sowell

    I remember my grandma telling me that in the 60's Chinese corporations went to her home of Sierra Leone and offered to build a bridge making it easier foe people to get from the airport to the city instead of a ship to Kissy doc yard. Their only request was that tbey have the rights to whatever they found in the waters under that bridge. The offer was refused at the time. Its very clear that they'd done their resaerch and already knew what resources were present. Fast forward to today. I bleive the option 4 that's being dismissed by official is the ulterior motive.
