What does this team need? The defense has to let in 40 less goals from 23/24, that is 281 goals to 241 goals. We need to play hybrid man on man /zone defense. We need a defense coach better than the existing guy. The PP must improve from 17.5% to about 22%. ..... IMO we need a Necas to improve our PP + a (D coach) so that our PK improves from 76.5% to about 82% .

hello everyone .i have been following connor hughes since he came to switzerland in 2017 i am a goalie myself in switzerland but not professional .connor first played in the 2nd highest league then in the highest league in switzerland and i am impressed by how good he is he has gotten better every year .this season he was even the best goalie in the league although less games than others but still highly respected. montreal fans you can really be happy about a great goalie .i think he can't pass montebault but he will surely be the back up .i was very happy for him when i read about the trade yesterday .i keep my fingers crossed for connor that he will get his chance .i hope switzerland has another nhl goalie .best regards from switzerland

Very happy to see Beck's progress - even if he tops out at being a solid third line center on a good Habs team, there's no shame in it if the first two centers are Suzuki and Dach. The future down the middle is looking good.

Another point is that, sure players might endup paying more taxes, but they get paid in usd while their local expenses are in cad. Life is cheaper here compared to lets say New York or LA.

Monahan would be a feel good signing but, he comes with injury or performance decline risk. Sean will probably get 3 year deal. The Habs should stick to giving the drafted players a chance. Oliver Kapanen is also raising a few eyebrows. I am looking forward to seeing Beck in the lineup.

Small question for the mailbag: Say the Canadiens use d-men and draft capital to sign a potential 70+ point player, say that trade involves a Harris AND Barron.. Lets discuss a scenario whereby the Habs actually take a d-man for a second straight year. Hughes had said that BPA was the primary driver, and position would gain favour if they consider both players equal... However, on pure ability/ceiling, could we consider a player like Parekh to be an outright better player than Lindstrom, Iginla and Catton? I'm very much pro-forwaard, but HuGo has taught me to expect the unexpected haha

Danault is something special, somewhat like Patrice Bergeron. I remember seeing Jake Evans prospect videos and my God, he was dominant on the ice in the minors. Beck isn't as flashy as Evans was in the juniors, he doesn't have the scoring touch of a Sane Wright. He will be a purely defensive center like Guy Carbonneau, and at best Danault. I cross my fingers that he will be able to generate offence and rise above the AHL caliber. Ryan Poehling was a very effective and non flashy player in the minors, even winning the world Junior player of the tournament award. His skills did not translate well to the NHL. Let's be patient and not get our hopes up too high.There is a BIG step between the juniors league and the NHL. The fact that the Habs sent Beck back to the minors for two full years following his draft means that he needs to up his game quite a lot before being at the level of the NHL.

Hello there from Czechia. I would like to point out that in terms of our team's roster, we had a hidden aces in players coming to the Championship from Extraleague (standart czech hockey league). These players are very capable and have a huge advantage that nobody knows what to expect from them until they start scoring (Sedlak would be an example of that). NHL names like Pastrnak and Necas are on the roster mainly to draw the attantion of players from opposing teams, since everybody knows they can be dangerous.

The Canes owner is still sore over the aho offersheet. On top of that his revenge backfired big time with his kk disaster. He is not trading Necas to our Habs unless we grossly overpay and thats not happening with Hughes.

Hughes is known to fleece other GMs! But he has to be clear on this one! Getting Necas won’t be as a result of any fleece! He’s going to have to give up something good to get something good! Something that each team needs… plain and simple! Make it happen Hughes!

No. Frankly it’s annoying listening to people talk about him as if he hasn’t been one of the better Habs in the past 30 years. Yes, his contract is not ideal. So what? It’s not crippling the team by any means. And he looked 25 for the last two months of the season. I’ll take Gally on my third line ALL DAY. So what if he makes second line money. The contract exists and he’s in the team. Spending all this time longing for a world where he isn’t is lame.

no one will take gallager unless they throw in a first round pick. no one will take that contract and he was good the lst half he season. trade anderson, anderson and a first pick for debois(don't go spazzing ). gallager has team value and if anyone can make dubois play like a star it's martin st louis. move anderson, dvorak and armia. moving those guys leaves them with only one bad contract. that's not too bad.
