We know what they sound like, we also know what language they spoke. It's called Old Norse, it's a little hard to learn because it's like Old English on crack. But with enough practice it's easy.
This isn’t what Norse sounds like - the pronunciation is not exaggerated or guttural or over-enunciated or stiff or robotic in any of the Germanic languages!
The reconstructed pronunciation of ancient languages is kinda incorrect, I can assure ye that Old Norse and Gothic and Old English etc did not sound like that (stiff and robotic with pushed vowels and prolonged As 😂 and with funny intonations that sound as if they were reciting stories in an exaggerated way etc) and that they all sounded very normal... The right pronunciations are way more natural actually and the vowels are pronounced differently, depending on the word, because it is logical to think that such well-constructed languages had the most logical pronunciation that was decided based on what sounded best and had a better flow in each word, same as all the modern languages... Old Norse would sound closer to the pronunciation by the singers from the band Skáld, the pronunciation of Old English definitely didn’t have funny intonations and over-pronounced Rs or pushed vowels etc and is in fact supposed to sound very natural, and Gothic isn’t supposed to sound stiff and over-enunciated either and it didn’t have an ‘open’ pronunciation like German as the German accent doesn’t sound right in Gothic...
I am upper intermediate level in both Old Norse and Icelandic, and I have the right Norse pronunciation, which is the most logical, and by the way, I will use DH for the TH sound in the English words this and that, which is the approximant of D and not the approximant of T like the TH in the English word think, and I will use AO for the ‘closed’ A sound that is like an A and O sound said 2gether in one sound (similar to the A sound in Hungarian) that melts into a soft O sound! For example... - hvat sounds like hvat or vat or kvat - mæra sounds like mera - ávast sounds like avast - nágrindr sounds like naogrind:r - líkligr sounds like liklig:r or likliguhr - frænda sounds like freinda - þat sounds like that - ræðir sounds like reidhir - hárr sounds like haruhr or har:r - gæfr sounds like gev:r or gevuhr - hverfa sounds like hverva or verva or kverva (any of them or all 3 could’ve been used) Also... - hæll sounds like heyl - saltr sounds like solt:r - mæla sounds like mala - drápa sounds like dropa or drapa - kæra sounds like kaera or kaira - ferr sounds like fer:r - jafna sounds like yavna - hœgri sounds like heoyri - girðing sounds like girdhing - hádegi sounds like haodegi - ørendislaust sounds like eorendislaust The word... - verr sounds like ver - ekki sounds like eki or ehki - þverra sounds like thverra - gegna sounds like gekna - vefja sounds like vevya - yfir sounds like ɪvɪr as in Icelandic - ætla sounds like etla - ofn sounds like ovn - náliga sounds like naoliga - sauma could have been pronounced either saima or seoyma like in Icelandic or both or even sauma as it is written - ofleti sounds like ofleti I don’t think there was any fixed way of pronouncing the diphthongs, and it’s most likely that the pronunciation of diphthongs such as AU would differ depending on the word, and it may have also differed depending on the region and accent... The Rs are always different depending on the region and depending of the speaker in every language, but in Germanic languages, a soft normal R is usually used by most speakers and by younger speakers, and I highly recommend using a soft normal R in Norse and in all other languages that aren’t English as soft Rs have the best and most refined sound, soft Rs that are pronounced as fast as possible being the types of Rs that truly suit such refined languages as Norse and the other Germanic languages, whereas hard or prolonged or thrilled Rs sound very harsh and unrefined...

WAS CLEOPATRA EUROPEAN, AFRICAN OR OF MIXED HERITAGE? Written by Know Thyself Institute The announcement of “Cleopatra” the Netflix documentary has stirred much controversy with many people being upset about the choice of the leading actress with many accusations of “Black Washing”. This is not at all a surprise considering the historical anti-African sentiment when concerning ancient Egypt and openly racist ideologies of early Egyptologists' such as George Reisner and James Breasted. Their agenda to separate the original people and civilization of ancient Egypt from the rest of Africa has been massively successful leading many to believe ancient Egypt was a product of Eurasians. Let us take a closer look to see if there is any validity to this claim. But before we do that let us first establish the history and relationship between ancient Kemet (Egypt) and Greece. While Cleopatra is a title which has been held by many women in the past, the Cleoptra in question is Cleopatra VII, Thea Philopator, 70 BCE or 69 BCE. She was born into Greco-Roman Egypt in a time period when indigenous Africans had lost rulership of their once great nation of Kemet. Due to opression from the Ptolemaic regime indigenous Kemetyu (Egyptians) were pushed futher south due to unjust laws including higher taxation rates than their Greek counterparts. Cleoatrapa ruled from the Delta as was tradition of all foreign rulers including the Hyksos, Lybians, Assyrians and Persians before her, and Arabs, Mamluks and French and British after. Historically indigenous Nwsts (Pharaohs) ruled from Upper Kemet, over 1000 km away from the Delta deep in Southern Kemet near the border of Sudan. The power and spiritual centers of ancient Kemet historally were in Upper Kemet in the regions of Swennet, Nekhen, Naqada and Waset. It should be noted that even to this day these regions are populated by Black Africans who still acknowledge their African heritage. Modern Egyptians in Aswan speak of their origins: czcams.com/video/ZvJ0F299kFQ/video.html Cleopatra VII was part of the Ptolemaic Dynasty, an invading Macedonian population that colonized the Delta and adopted ancient Kemetic customs and dress. They fused many Kemetic Neteru and Greek Gods together such as Zeus-Amun and even deified historical Kemetic figures such as Imhotep, the world's first Multi-Genius whom the Greeks worshiped as Ascepius. Greeks literally worshiped ancient African Gods. The Greeks were educated by ancient Africans. They Studied in Kemet (Egypt) in the ancient Mystery System. Plato studied in Kemet for 13 years. Pythagoras studied philosophy, geometry and medicine in Kemet for 22 years. Thales, the first Greek philosopher to study in Kemet for 7 years Hippocrates, who is called the father of medicine, recognized Egyptian multi genius, Imhotep as father of medicine and deified him as previously mentioned. The "Pythagorean Theorem" was used to build the pyramids in Egypt 1000 years before Pythagorean was born. Plato said “Kemetic education makes students more alert and human”, Plato also told his students to "go to Kemet if they wanted to study the mind of great philosophers". Herodotus, the Greek historian refered to the continent of Africa as Aethiopia. Aethiopia to the Greeks was looked at as the cradle of civilization. In those times Greeks referred to “Sub-Saharan” Africa as Upper Aethiopia and the Sahara was known as Lower Aethiopia. The Atlantic Ocean was known as the Aethiopian Sea. Ethiopia in Greek translated to “Skin Burnt of the Furnace”. A term often used to describe ancient Egyptians and was a generic term for a black African. Now that we have a little bit of background information of the relationship between Greece and Kemet let's get back to Cleopatra. Was she white, black or mixed? When referring to the Fayum Portraits of Greco Roman Egypt it is clear that many of the portraits depict people of mixed ethnicities. Given the fact that Macedonians adopted African culture it is not at all a stretch of imagination that they intermarried and intermixed with native Africans producing offspring of mixed heritage. This is apparent even in the phenotype of many modern Egyptians today in Cairo and Alexandria who have African features such as dark complexions and coarse hair. But is there any further evidence that Cleopatra may have been of mixed African and European origin? In fact there is. The tomb of Cleopatra VII’s sister was unearthed in 1973. Her name was Arsinoë IV and lived between 68 and 63 BCE in Alexandria. According to certain sources Arsionoe was killed while seeking refuge in the Temple of Artemis in the year 41 BC. The same year Cleopatra and her lover Marcus Antonius arrived in Ephesus. Arsinoe is said to have opposed Cleopatra's rule which led to her untimely death. Interestingly enough according to Hilke Thuer of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, upon examination it was found that Arsinoë was of mixed heritage both Greek and African. This discovery lends credence to the assertion of the BBC News who stated, "Cleopatra's mother 'was African', Cleopatra, the last Egyptian Pharaoh, renowned for her beauty, was part African, says a BBC team which believes it has found her sister's tomb. Queen Cleopatra was a descendant of Ptolemy, the Macedonian general who ruled Egypt after Alexander the Great. But remains of the queen's sister Princess Arsinoe, found in Ephesus, Turkey, indicate that her mother had an "African" skeleton. Experts have described the results as "a real sensation." In conclusion it is not at all a far stretch of the imagination that Cleopatra may have been mixed with African blood and furthermore, the appearance of the people of Greco-Roman Egypt, based on the Fayum portraits illustrate a population whom look very similar in feature, complexion and hair texture as the actress Adele James who was chosen to play the role of Cleopatra. Considering the fact they were on the continent of Africa it would actually be preposterous to assume that these different populations of Africans, Greeks, and Asiatics did not mix and intermarry. @@victoryv116 _"she had been mixed... whenever foreign power ruled over the land, they used to marry with local aristocracy [...] _*_it's been impossible to think that after so many years, they wouldn't have《African blood》in them."_* And then you go on to call the Egyptians *racist,* lol. *The issue* with this documentary, in case you haven't understood, is that Cleopatra was depicted as being *Black* - *from your statement,* you seem to equate her having mixed *North-African* heritage (which is just a speculation, given that her family was notoriously inbred & *avoided* marrying outside the bloodline) with her *being Black.* Which is why you conclude the people/Egyptians objecting to this *movie* (not "documentary") are racist. Even if she *had* North African heritage in her mix, we can see from the depictions we have that she clearly wasn't Sub-Saharan or West-African looking. *So,* "African blood" doesn't automatically means "Black features". 🙂 You're welcome
I have been doing my research on the life of Cleopatra and before this l had never heard of her being anything but Egyptian even though she was born to a Greek father, even the true origin of her mother is in doubt by many and no where did l read that she ever lived in Greece, fought for Greece or for that matter have any thing to do with that country. In fact she even joined with Caesar to help Rome defeat the Greeks who had been ruling Egypt. Her love had always been for Egypt and not Greece, she learned Egyptian as well as Ethiopian, an African language as well as the Middle Eastern languages of Aramaic and Median and was born in Egypt and fought and loved that country and not Greece. So truly the facts point to her being either mixed with Egyptian or Persian since the Persians had ruled Egypt from around 525 BC and she went out of her way to learn and speak those languages, all something a person who was 100 percent Greek would most likely not do. So in my eyes and alot of people, Cleopatra will always be Egyptian because you are what you Love and she had no love for Greece or its People. So even if you guys are right that she also had a Greek or Macedonian mother, she sure didnt have or show any love for her people. Wonder why Greeks are so much trying to claim as her own when she obviously loved Egypt, not Greece. One may even say she hated Greece for her to align with their fiercest enemy Rome and helping to defeat Greece for Rome. Which Rome eventually did in 30 BC and took Egypt from Ptolemaic Dynasty of Macedonia that had ruled Egypt for 300 years since 332 BC. So you can understand why people have issues when they say Cleopatra was Greek cause her Life and actions speak otherwise.
