    Did you / will you put a hydramat in the front section of the tank? I saw some heat marks (~7 minutes in) on the bottom of the saddle portion, is that where the pickup is attached to the tank?

    • @brennanmetcalf
      @brennanmetcalf Před 10 hodinami

      @grewe02 the pickup for the front section is a draw straw from the top. There is a small bracket in the bottom of the tank that the straw keys into so the sloshing of the fuel doesn't fatigue it.

    Is there a pump to transfer over that hump? Filling issues?

    • @brennanmetcalf
      @brennanmetcalf Před 14 dny

      The system is basically like a OEM saddle tank. The return line from the fuel injection system will run a small venturi siphon pump that continuously moves fuel from the front well of the tank to the rear section where the main pump is located. The transfer passage between the two sections is large enough that filling shouldn't be an issue. The front section also has its own vent which joins into the pump vent high point and to the filler neck.

    Great now I gotta go back and watch the one where you talk about the fuel pump, 'cause I'm having trouble figuring out how you are gonna run the front pick-up tube. I also wonder a bit if a 3D printed tank would even be feasible. Not sure if 3D printing plastic would hold up, or how leak proof you could plastic weld something... (I envision printing in 2 halves then plastic welding them together). My Gut feeling is that it would not save any design + fabrication time, plus machine time on a large enough printer would probably make it too expensive.

    • @brennanmetcalf
      @brennanmetcalf Před 21 dnem

      @donaldendsley6199 I'm going to be using venturi siphon pump powered by the return line flow to continuously move fuel from the front sump to the rear. It's not an uncommon technique in OE vehicles.

    • @brennanmetcalf
      @brennanmetcalf Před 23 dny

      @chalinp4886 no hole, but I did weld a little threaded tube to the end of the stubby ratchet ( you could use a coupling nut ), then a folding handle screws into that. The handle can fold to be alongside the body of the jack this way and clip into a little 3d printed magnetic handle holder.

    I'd e-mail but I figure this is better for YT engagement. I have just purchased your 2" SSRA and I think I heard you say in another video (or maybe on a forum) that certain 1/2" soft shackles could potentially fit, possibly if they have a double-leg design? I'm curious if the Bubba Ropes 1/2" soft shackle is one of the ones you're talking about, and if it should fit with some convincing? If not, I can obviously go 7/16" from any reputable vendor (I assume)... (I am also aware of the idea of going too strong with some rigging, so no need to cover that here.)

    • @brennanmetcalf
      @brennanmetcalf Před 25 dny

      @BenFenner My house brand soft shackles are the perfect fit and a manufactured from 7/16 Amsteel-Blue by Yankum Ropes for me. The 2.0 SSRA can use 1/2 rope based shackles if the legs are independent, but you will have to give up on having the tubular webbing guard.

  • @BenFenner
    @BenFenner Před 25 dny

    Can you explain a bit more how you've got the winch line connected to the soft shackle for storage in the winch? At first I thought you were running the BleepinJeep Freedom Winch Line but I guess not. And do you have any concerns about UV degradation on the knot? Any thoughts about a "sock" to protect it from the sun? (I have just purchased your 2" SSRA and have a question about that but I'll make a new post.)

    • @brennanmetcalf
      @brennanmetcalf Před 25 dny

      @BenFenner If you search out my social media at #BrennansGarage or #BeeSafeRecoveryGear you can find some posts about the SoftHook technique I came up with a few years back. The short version. The tail of one of my normal soft shackles is connected to a slightly larger than normal soft loop in the end of the winch line using a Loop2Loop connection ( sometimes called a Cow Hitch ). The top knot of the soft shackle is then run through the extra space in the winch line loop behind the Loop2Loop connection. I haven't found the need to cover the top knot of the soft shackle, but you certainly could if you wanted.

    I wasn't particularly enthusiastic about the aesthetics when I first saw the design. But your form-follows-function explanation makes a lot of sense, if I didn't already have a bumper on my JKU I'd certainly consider yours. I'll be watching for other JK parts maybe some lightweight rocker/ sliders? Or aluminum gas tank skid? Hint hint. The butterfly was an added bonus. 😂

    • @brennanmetcalf
      @brennanmetcalf Před 25 dny

      There are already some good aluminum parts on the market. Nemesis makes a very good set of aluminum rockers. Next Venture Motorsports has a great aluminum skidplate package including gas tank skid that actually replaces the factory steel skid....not just sandwiches over it. I'm not trying to totally reinvent the wheel....I try and pick my battles ( and products ) pretty carefully.
