My name is Mike Boyd and a while ago I made a video documenting my process of learning a new skill in a really short amount of time. That idea seemed to resonate with people, so I decided to learn a bunch of other skills. Every month I pick a new challenge and try to conquer it as quickly as possible. Hopefully this content inspires you to learn something new too. Leave a comment telling me what you think and let me know if you have a suggestion for a new challenge. Enjoy the videos! :)

In this episode I find out how long it will take me to bench press my own bodyweight, pullup 1.5 x my bodyweight and deadlift twice my bodyweight. At the time of filming I weighed 70 kg (154 lbs). Apparently this puts you in the top 5% of the population in terms of strength. I'm not sure about that, but deadlifts sure are hard!
Filmed at Block10 in Dundee.

Go to www.thorum.com/ and use the code MIKEBOYD to get 20% off a truly unique ring. This week I designed a dice (or die) that will allow me to win at snakes and ladders every single time. I used an Arduino with some basic electronics equipment, electromagnets with magnets embedded in a loaded dice that gave the result I wanted.

Impressive... I'm 13, 5 ft 6 in and can climb 5.11b too
If these numbers are true than guess I'm in the top 5% already 😂 415 deadlift, 315 squat and 200 bench at 180 lbs currently. Less than a year into serious training and got a long ways to go!
Is ur face too deepfake u look like mr beast 😂
I’m sorry but the way u put the weight on for deadlift was triggering me😂
It WOULD have been interesting to see a few moves in real-time to see how long it takes to receive an instruction, see Mike react, and try to "listen" to the instruction and play it. Would it be easy to miss an instruction? @Mike do you still have any real time footage of some of your plays?
Sheers man. Nice progression!
Extremely impressive for the amount of time you trained, also for your bodyweight.
I had the same injury except my was just a scratch
this is motivating. Thank you
Well, 99,9% of the population does not even deadlift so my guess is this would put you even higher then the top 5%
Squat is supposed to be added weight, not just bodyweight
Has it been 6 years already 😢😢😢
Ditch the shoes on the deadlifts
I opened this video having never seen this channel before I have no idea how 60 can fly so easy and yet 65 won't By the time I saw bench and weighted pull up I knew 2x bodyweight on deadlifts would not happen in the first test Squat is a lot technically easier than deadlift, so using it as a test of strength for people who do not focus on technique can be more logical Low bar squat is a bit closer to deadlift in terms of lower back involvement than a high bar squat, so in terms of being more similar on muscle activation maybe its preferable
Colab with the stoltman brothers when?
fuck your pull ups
Well I'm screwed I weigh 270lbs. I can squat my body weight but I can't bench it😅. And my max deadlift is 455
Alan Thrall intensifies on the form
70kg bench is ridiculously easy compared to pullup + 35kg If you weight 90kg benching 70kg is nothing, you can do that without training It should be 1,5x your weight
smh he put clips on when going for bench press PR lol
I hate getting hit in the ancle with a scooter
Got my first 6cs the third time I went climbing. Being tall and lightweight is so op for many of these mid level climbs.
Deadlift would be much easier for you if you did it in barefoot or socks or in Converse
Mike you’re almost 60!?! You’re more of a beast at 59 than I am at 21 by a long shot. I hope my body does not fail me and I can continue to grow as you have
Watching Max Hall... :)
3:49 Mike showing a 9x9, “you reckon you could solve that?” Me and the boys: *laughs in speedcuber*
17:30 you fatigued your body trying to go 100% you should have just done more reps of a lighter weight instead of try multiple times, happens to a lot of people.
When the trailers emply you can lift it slightly so you can see the trailers wheels.
His form on the Deadlift is actually (unexpectedly) really good for someone who barely tried the lift.
Still his best vid imo
Why use imperial units and leave all of the world outside of this except the UK and the US? :( Especially since running distances are always talked about in km.
Churning butter, making fire, and next will be colonizing Mars, love it!
How do you take the training wheel off?
benching BW or deadlifting 2x BW is infinitely easier than pull up with 0.5BW added
Is that for real? 95% can't squat their own bodyweight?
I accidentally made this yesterday 😅😂
Liar
crossbar challenge - must get one out of 5 shots.
Majority of people do not lift weights so I can understand that those figures would be classed as 5%, but they're very easy to achieve (within a few months of solid weightlifting) so if everyone started lifting, it would probably turn into 90%.
Neoprene leg guards required
I can do the first two but I don't deadlift so I don't know if I could do it
It took you six days to learn to practice on the grass 👍😂
Should've included the squat for completion's sake, as it's easy anyway. Great inspiration otherwise, I want to beat you now with my 65 kg :D
Have you considered trying to learn the one-arm pull-up? I think it will manageable for you since you climb.
i could already do those Weights for Reps the first Time i tried as a Teenager you know why?Because i already did Pushups for a long Time and was raised Countryside without TV always outside and used to physical work and now at 48 i still feel an Advantage from Building that Athleticism early in my Life My Standard to be called a strong Man is Bench 1xBW for 10Reps,Squats 1.5xBW and Deadlifts 2xBW for at least 5 Reps each! And i do that at 100kg Bodyweight if you are a 70-80kg healthy Man and 20-40 Yrs old those Numbers can be achieved in a few Months if you are motivated
Where do i stand in percentage...83kg 160kg squat 110kg bench and 220kg deadlift..i did try pull up and menage with 40kg pull up and 60kg dip 1 rep
Next time you should try to do it the proper way. Squat 1,5x your weight and pull-ups with chin-up the bar. And don't use a belt for deadlift.
Like you said, its a load of shit. Before I even started training I could bench and squat my own bodyweight (I was only 51kg / 112lbs) and i could deadlift 80kg / 176lbs. Bench was 65kg and squat 60kg at that time. Also your deadlift form was actually really good. For bench press: arch your back a little and restract your shoulder blades (tuck them in)
It takes ten days to recover from deadlift - Eddie Hall
