Imagine just taking a stroll at the local park and seeing a man wildly throwing his umbrella repeatedly
It's Scotland, they like to throw strange things around
And finally taking out one of his eyes?
@@Azchk Yes honey, he's a CZcamsr*
Thank you so much for this comment, it genuinely made me laugh
MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY LMAO
I am always kind of impressed how little time it takes to learn something seemingly so impossible and cool. I mean, I know he is having luck streaks and he is 90% consistent or something, but still...he gets the hang of very cool things in less than an hour
I think most of us would try something 'impossible' like this a handful of times and then give up if we didn't manage it in the first few minutes. I love how these videos show what you can achieve if you have a bit more dedication, and that it doesn't take anything like 10,000 hours to master some things that initially appear impossible.
Bruh, this is quite easy.
...which makes me wonder even more why I don't do stuff like this. This trick tool him less to learn than watching some mediocre forgettable B-rate movie at home.
exactly. _100%_ true
I think the ability to figure out skills really is the biggest skill.
At first I assumed this wouldnât be a very consistent trick, and the man in the video just had all the perfect conditions. But once again, Mike, you impressed me! I can imagine that after enough times, this trick could be used on a rainy day consistently.
Though, the man in the video threw it overhand, pretty far, and it floated back to him. Not quite what Mike did, who threw it underhand and it basically went straight down
@@CrustyTheMoist well the whole point was to open the umbrella with a single throw and a catch. The speed will vary depending on the umbrella length, and if your going for consistency then it makes more sense to throw it a bit closer towards you.
Just to note: Mike said it's pretty good weather and wind less. The video has wind and rain that why the umbrella was able to float back to him.
The technique would probably change depending on how windy it is
@@Onimusza94 you can see that the top of the umbrella is tilting because there is no wind to keep it up
It's the old Jackie Chan philosophy. The question isn't whether you're good enough, but whether you're patient enough.
You shouldâve done it in public after you mastered it, those reactions wouldâve been phenomenal
To me, the original video seemed like a one-in-a-million chance type trickshot that one might film for the novelty of it. Mike on the other hand, took it in his stride to learn it as yet another skill to add to his arsenal. Mad respect to him for taking the seemingly novel and amusing to a whole new level.
The smoothness and fluidity very much implies that he has been working to do it. It was confident and looked practiced. I'm sure that if Mike managed to get the technique used in the video rather than developing a new one, it'd have looked and worked a bit better.
@@dreugh424 yeah, like obviously he wouldn't set it all up to be filmed if there was 99% chance he would fail miserably, also he would have had a more extreme reaction if he really did it for the first time
Well then you were just wrong. đ€Ł
Well, to me, the original video seemed fake as all Hell, and that would be why the lighting changed instantly, just before the umbrella changed direction
@@ashscott6068 It didn't look like the lightning changed to me, just that it was re-framed. Didn't look fake to me. We just learned that it is simple enough to do with practice, and it looked fairly natural to my eyes.
Seems like when you throw underhand, the umbrella floats away from you after it unfurls. In the original video, he threw it overhand and it floated towards him. While it seems like the underhand throw was easier, perhaps the overhand throw would be better if you could get it down.
The overhand is more flashy but the underhand gives me more of a chill vibe, both good in their own ways
Yeah. My thoughts exactly. The overhand throw looks much better.
The direction probably had more to do with the wind.
@@LucasLealDev Probably had to do with momentum
@King Pistachion no. Really. Overhand is much much cooler. And clearly harder, therefore more impressive
haha this was so satisfying to watch! great vid!
Usually a verified youtuber in the comment section would get 1k or more likes
But this is the first time i saw a verified youtuber comment having no likes
So here is a like
Can you do a video in his style as in learn a skill and record how long it takes
@@tacothedoge7703 i agree that would be quite enjoyable
Oh, hi Kieran, love the videos
Finally a verified person who isnt a bot
I would like to see a cool video of Mike performing many of the skills he learned as a part of his daily life. Like one skill kind of leading into the next, like casually juggling fruit while making breakfast, then he goes for a bike ride and has to go up the stairs, then he locks his bike and come back and loses the key, so now he has to pick the lock. Just a combination of many of the skills if that makes sense.
Even better would be a continuous shot!
he used to do this on his end of year videos where he shows off every trick he has learned in one take
imagine being someone whoâs watching mike learn tricks and saying to yourself: ah there he is, lets see what new abomination of moves he does today?
agreed. 110% correct dude
His neighbors would have a tough time figuring out what's up with his free time.
Hello Taz's landlord
I don't have to imagine..
@@maxgoldstein6309 hello mikeâs neighbor

"Ooh, a spot of rain"
(Gets viciously attacked by umbrella)
This man jus simplified it to bits , like , underarm throw , already popped umbrella and also not holding the handle while throwing but the centre part , great vid
I feel like what made the original look so cool, is that it didnt seem like he was even trying. He wasnt looking at the umbrella or raising his hand before time. It was a sync perfect (minis the umbrella hitting the hat). Would love to see a full recreation of it.
Mike: oh it needs to be higher.
Also Mike: less height more spin.
haha! nice
If you thew it over-arm, it would open at a different angle and float back towards you rather than away from you allowing you to walk slower.
In all of Mike's videos, but especially this one, you can really see the learning process. Going from just throwing an umbrella onto the ground, to actually getting it to open almost every time, to finally catching it consistently.
he changed to a self opening umbrella
This is one of the most inspiring channels on the platform because you see something cool you have no idea how to do, and go out and learn to do it, sharing the failures all the way along.
The slow mos and the outfits and the everything just made the video so clean and pleasant to watch, aside the umbrella catching which feels like butter melting on your toast
It's like the whole video was some really good toast for the butter to melt on.
@@vigilantcosmicpenguin8721 that is incorrect, my phone broke and didn't taste like toast when I bit into it.
Did it help changing umbrellas? You started with a hooked handle. The final one had a different canopy and straight handle. Looked to be a self opening umbrella as well.
@@user-vj7fj3yy1u shut up, bot
@King Pistachion theres about 5 of these bots spamming on all of the top comments, they seem to target mikes channel an awful lot for some reason
@@Soph_252 that would be because weâre all virgins who want to gain the Chad energy of learning like Mike.
@@Soph_252 These bota are on all my subscriptions, not just Mikes, that string these bots spam are easy to filter out and ban, dunno why CZcams havent bothered doing that for the last year or so...
What do you think is the answer?
Mike would be the type of grandpa that says âwanna see something cool?â And do this
Big props to Mike for figuring out a way to do it. But the original video was an overhand throw and that made the umbrella float back to him.
imagine dropping this in a city when it starts to rain ;D looks very cool
and then you fail and you get wet
@@vnzandroid or pierce someone lol
i swear this man can learn anything...
Most of these can be learnt by anyone, you just need to dedicate yourself to it.
@@pinhead1990 practice, practice, practice :)
@@pinhead1990 yes correct
@Melon So can you, probably you just havent tried. :)
So can everybody, but Mike has the commitmend
I've loved the more consistent uploads this month, great work Mike!
Ive been following you for a long time and I never get tired of your videos and personality! Keep it up!
Would've appreciated a bit more explanation on this one. You mention pre-popping it, so this isn't really practical, but what about the limitations on how you weren't able to perfectly recreate the original vid?
Mike, can I just say that this is, out of all the CZcams channels I watch, my absolute favorite channel; and that is saying quite a bit, because I watch ALOT of CZcams channels. Keep doing your thing man - absolutely love what you're doing.
your videos just makes me happy that somebody is giving time and energy for these type of stuff! Brilliant keep going lad
I canât believe how much youâve grown since the beginning I think i followed you around 100,000 subs.

Two things that I feel like has to be addressed. Just an observation.
1) to me the overhand looks cooler. When you uttered: âUnderhand is easierâ I thought it was a shame. Since you do not generally set out to do easier, but to do IT.
2) it seems like the overhand, because of the rotation, would naturally float towards you. Rather than away, as it did in the beginning for you.
Yes! The overhand looks more like a boomerang, it looks way cooler
@King Pistachion naw. Overhand is much much more impressive due to its apparent difficulty. Mike usually doesn't try making the challenge easier for himself. But her certainly did in this one.
In the video, the umbrella spun two circles, while Mike's underhand throw only spins it once.
doing this underhand is a whole different trick... i was hoping he would learn the RIGHT way
m
Mike: âit needs to be higherâ
Also Mike, next clip: âless high, more spinâ
The thing about things like this, and Mike understands this as well; is that they are WAY simpler than they seem visually. And having that mindset is what makes him or you learn something seemingly hard very quickly. Never go into something thinking it's impossible or too difficult.
ikr, it's about the mindset
2:17 This is literally the most Scottish sentence Iâve ever heard
Looks good, the original video flips the umbrella twice though!
@King Pistachion no it's not
Love your videos Mike!
For me, you are one of the best creators on the platform.
Keep it up!
brooo ive been looking for this channel for so long im so happy i found it again
I'VE ALWAYS WANTED TO LEARN THIS!!! I have my winter break plans now đ. Thanks for the awesome video as always!!
Love you vids mike keep up the good work I love watching all the the videos makes me wanna try new things
Truly remarkable. Amount of dedication in learning is amazing.
tthis channel is like a remake of the groundhog day. at the end of the movie Mike manages to dominate all that skills and we see a one shot of he using it all.
imagine ... he goes walking trow an axle to some wood, wile spining a book and open his umbrela
what about the fact the umbrella changed early on - that was not mentioned at all, what were the reasons? Balance? Locking mechanism? Sliding differences
The one he changed to automatically opens when you press a button by the handle. Seems he had already pressed the button and is holding the umbrella shut before he throws it.
@King Pistachion he asked a question.
@King Pistachion look at yourself - walking around the internets calling out people using your made up assumptions
I just assumed he broke the other one haha
This looks amazing, added to bucket list
Glad seeing you back mike! I missed the content
From the channel that is exactly what I wanted to make for CZcams comes the app I wish Iâd made. Much respect. Love your work!
you know Mike what.
you are my inspiration in every thing you done or not, because waht i learn from you that everything is possible in this life whatever it is,Even you or anyone done it before or not but you can do it by your will, practice and consistency. Amazing work dude, your all videos have a big lesson behind .
No offense, but you *might* want to work on your English grammar.
sick video! I would love to learn something like this one day!
I love all your videos but this one was especially delightful. Congrats on the new skill!
I'm here for Mike's joyful giggle when it works. Makes my day.
4:50 even in slow motion, THAT WAS SMOOTH
The problem with throwing it underhand is it inherently wants to fly away from you when it pops open. Whereas when you throw it overhand, it wants to fly back to you.
Kick ass! Before you launched into advertising I think you should've done a break down of what you learned throwing the umbrella and perhaps some covert public demonstrations in the rain to catch bystander reactions. Thank you!
This video gave me so much joy. Thank you!
Hey dude I have been asking since the backflip video for you to actually try to learn the backflip or any flip!
love the video and love your work! your videos are a constant reminder of what is possible with intention and effort! thank you!
Quick question - how come you switched umbrellas in the video? Did the one with the curved handle break?
maybe it was harder to catch
Underhand method is cool because it pops open above you.
But the overhand "tomahawk" method is cool because it opens at an angle and flies towards you. I bet you could do it with a smaller umbrella.
Mike's the first person I've ever seen complain about good weather đ€Ł
Also, im glad to have found this channel ever since I saw the Learn To Stack Video abt 4 years ago, so thx u my guy!
Imagine if Mike had a son. He'd never be able to lose his respect.
Itâs always been a childhood dream of mine to use an umbrella as a parachute!
it is time to try :)
Can't wait to see you learning to fly... SUBSCRIBED.
In its closest sense, you are one of the guys that can claim "been there, done that".
I mean the amount of skills that you learnt, even though you may have forgotten a few, is marvelous. đ
The way you learned it looks cool, but the original video still looks cooler.
Also like other people mentioned, you didn't tell us why you changed umberella. I watch these videos to learn exactly everything you found out and tried in the process so it would be nice if you could tell us about changes like that aswell.
yah, but the original is fake
@King Pistachion nope. Without question the overhand looks cooler. Hence it having more views and being the inspiration of this video. Its intellectually dishonest to claim this was even equal, NVM better
@King Pistachion No, it doesn't look cooler you absolute buffoon. The original is like a boomerang, his isn't.
The one in the video looked way better due to the angle of it opening and how it's coming back to him (going backwards) not just falling down with a bit of speed like the one you did, it's amazing anyways but was hoping you to do the same one he did.
I think the reason why is there was perfect weather and no wind when he practiced and the wind is required for the umbrella to be able to comeback to him if he throws it forward
@@hauler-hx6gw I don't really think that the wind is required or was visible in the video, you can clearly see the umbrella unfold just by the wind facing it when falling which ain't that much of a force compared to the force from the throw speed instead of free falling, the forward throw would even put more air pressure on the umbrella to fold open and then come back to him if thrown right as it was with a perfect angel to go back to him.
Hey Mike! Another great video!
Also thanks for introducing Fabulous to us. Iâve started the trial.
loved that last catch đ looking spiffy and a head nod like a gentleman đ
this was genuinely hilarious to watch, well done.
definitely one of my favorite channels on CZcams~
Hey Mike, this isn't on a similar level to the other skills you've learned but could you possibly learn to roll a coin on your knuckles?
That would be interesting to watch. I've tried it myself a few times but never stuck with it
Yes! I would be really interested in that aswell!
If he hasnât done one already it would be really cool to see him make a single video learning a bunch of these little tricks together
@@RaindropsBleeding I tried to do it too got sorta good at it then stopped
@@Mikeological I agree
That was awesome! THOSE are the videos I subscribed for!!
Mike! Would be amazing to see you trying to learn drumming! I'm extremely curious how your fast learning abilities would cope with that!
"The definition of insanity is repeating the same actions and expecting a different result"
Mike: Hold my umbrella
This is different tho, he is actually changing the throw, spin, height, etc. I get this is a joke. Dont whoosh meee b:
Can you learn to endlessly fly a paper plane using a big piece of carton/paper under it to push it?
So mesmerizing that first shot after he gets it, awesome stuff
I am quite impressed by the sturdiness of that umbrella
You're surprisingly inspirational despite showcasing some seemingly useless skills, it just helps me realise that really I can learn whatever I want to if I just keep at it like you do!
Does anybody know what the background music is at 4:09 ? It sounds very nostalgic to me but I can't remember what song that is.
The Fabulous app is genious!! Just what I need
Came from tom scott's money game, and instantly subscribed, you were the MVP in the game and in this video too, you got yourself a sub buddy :)
So one year on, do you actually do this in public??? It would be so epic if you had it down really well and that's just the way you open your brolly now haha
The overhand throw has the umbrella spinning in an easier direction to grab, where instead of the canvas spinning towards your head, it's the handle. I am only 4 minutes into the video and it's hurting my brain he hasn't noticed it yet. I wonder if he will find out.
he didn't, it wrecked me đ
That's majestic af
The slow-mo clips though. So satisfying
The passerbyâs must be really confused about what this man is doing
This guy looks like "Virat Kohli" đ
correct đđ
i love the fact that he doesnt want to only catch it, he wants to catch it, and look badass while doing it
BRAVO DUDE!
But here's the question: Could it work in a practical scenario? This proved it works reliably on a clear, windless day- but what about when it's raining/windy? If it were to suddenly start downpouring and you actually needed the umbrella, could you do it?
lol
