    I would recommend Victoria by Sebastian Schipper if you haven’t seen it - a single shot film. It is interesting, because as it is one single shot, it’s like you hold your breath throughout the film and let it out once it is finished :)) I like A24 films as well. The last one I saw was Dream Scenario and it was super good imo. Have a lovely day.

    I don't know why but it never occurred to me that South Africa has its winter in June/July/August 🤔 Looking at the list of A24 films, I think The Witch is my favourite followed by Ex Machina and Under the Skin. (I own these on blu-ray) watched Hereditary recently which was.....really, really strange and The Lighthouse, a film I wanted to like but perhaps I wasn't in the mood for it on that particular evening.

    Hi inger, I have never read a Dorothy L Sayers Lord Peter Wimsey novel but I have seen some of the books portrayed on television as a series when I was a child. I do plan on reading one of them as they are so well known here in the UK and I believe the stories are set during the roaring twenties. 'Have His Carcase' I am told is worth a read so will certainly give it a try later in the year. I have 'Devotions' by Mary Oliver and I agree she really does capture the 'ordinary' and make something beautiful with it in verse. 'Wild geese' is one of my favourites of hers. Gertrude Stein is certainly someone I have heard of but have never read her work. The 'Food' book does sound very surreal. 'A Light in the Moon' does make sense but I don't believe this is a poet I would want to read more work of. Thank you inger I have enjoyed your book review very much, very thought provoking and thank you for reading the poems out. Have a great week!

    1 How many books is too many books in a series? It depends if the author manages to maintain the quality of the books. I'm reading a series right now where the energy seem to have run out, its a ten book series and i´m at book three. Sure it can be done well though. 2 How do you feel about cliffhangers? I have never read a book with a cliffhanger. Not really. Sure there is always much more to tell of a story in a book series. But cant call that a cliffhanger. 3 Hardback or paperback? If i had to chose, paperback. But prefer my e-reader 4 Favourite book? The first book in a series by a Swedish author called Jan Guillou. You follow a kid in Sweden back during the middle ages. He is sent to a monastery. Here he learns not just about latin and such but also how to fight like a crusader knight. In the second book, its a trilogy, he gets sent to the holy land and learns the nature of man. 5 Least favourite book? Oliver Twist, by Charles Dickens. I listened to it and man was that a drag. Perhaps due to an old time translation. But the reader was totally monotone. 6 Love triangles: Yes or no? I have never read a book with that as an element. 7 The most recent book you just couldn’t finish? Oliver Twist 8 A book you’re currently reading? Just a wrote upstairs, the third book in a series, you follow a family, through the nineteenth century. I´m in Germany during the thirties atm. 9 The last book you recommended to someone? The first book in this series. The first book was great and i recommended it to my mom. 10 Oldest book you’ve read by publication date? I tried to read a book published during the first years of the last century. It was about improving your character. Quite interesting but at the same time somehow a boor to read. 11 Newest book you’ve read by publication date? Not sure. 12 Favourite author? Jan Guillou. I think it was my mom who encouraged me to read the trilogy about the templar knight; Arn Magnusson. Since then he has been my favorite author. 13 Buying books or borrowing books? Buying, e-reader and so forth. And in Sweden we have two great services that is like Spotify but for books. Cheap and a great selection. Guess you could call that borrowing. 14 A book that you dislike that everyone else seems to love? Don´t know. 15 Bookmarks or Dog-Ears? Depends on the book. But id dogear most. 16 A book you can always reread? Somewhat of a repetition but i love that trilogy of books about the awkward kid from the monastery. 17 Can you read while hearing music? Nope cant concentrate. 18 One or multiple POVs? Depends if the author can manage it. 19 Do you read a book in one sitting or over multiple days? Many days, a few weeks. 20 A book you’ve read because of the cover? Never happened. Thanks for the video. Looking forward to the next one. Have a good time until then :).

    Don't say that Sylvia "had trouble sticking to a routine"...she had kids. They will disrupt your routines despite your best efforts, ESPECIALLY if you lose childcare for them which it sounds like she did when she no longer had her husband's help. Sounds like she did excellent with the time and resources she had. This CZcamsr obviously has never had children.

    • @ingerlouise
      @ingerlouise Před 22 dny

      You’re right, kids will disrupt any routine you try to follow, however, the routine I was following here was the one she had when she was in her early twenties, BEFORE she had children. And from all the research I did, it seems she had trouble sticking to her routines (likely due to mental health troubles) even before she had kids.

    I tried reading The Little Red Chairs by Edna O'Brien but I never finished it. I listened to The Country Girls which is actually read by Edna O'Brien as an audio book and I got on much better with that. I listened to all three of the books by her that follow the lives of two good friends in Ireland, I think they finally move to London. It is an interesting peek into the world of the Irish Country life back then. Sorry your kitty had a couple of accidents, does he use an indoor litter? I hope when you are rested you will get back into the swing of reading again. Maybe it is a seasonal thing I am only half interested in Life in the Garden by Penelope Lively yet I do pick it up each day and read a few pages. There are aspects of it I really find interesting.

      That’s interesting to hear, I’ll definitely see if I can find them on audiobook as well then. I’m getting through The Little Red Chairs slowly but surely, although I must say it is getting quite violent near the end. My cat doesn’t use an indoor litter because she’s outside in the garden most of the time, so it’s usually not a problem, I guess I was just too late in letting her out that night. But all is forgiven 🐱 I do think it is a seasonal thing.. and maybe it’s just a busy time of year, with not much time left over for reading. I hope your reading takes an upswing again as well. I read "The Secret History" many years ago, and... I couldn't put it down. It's a great book.

    It's a diverse selection of books. What we read kind of depends on what mood we're in. Of the five books, "Last exit to Brooklyn" would have the most impact. I would read that one.

    101 Ways To Go Zero Waste sounds interesting but The Night Circus was after all recommended by the theater's proprietor. So I vote The Night Circus. 😁🙏🏽

    The funny thing about TBR is that they just keep increasing as much you read. For example, if you read 5, you'll add 25 in your TBR lists. A few years back, I used to keep " Done Reading List " in it were about 50 books, and in TBR 250. Today in DRL there're about 300 and in TBR about 1500. No matter how many books you read, you will never finish your TBR. There are millions of books out there and as you growup and expand your knowledge and interests you'll want to read more and more of them. That does not mean you have to read million books. You can't do that but ofcourse you can add millions of books into your TBR. I think that is the real job of TBR lists, they are for those unread books.

    • @ingerlouise
      @ingerlouise Před 2 měsíci

      that is so true! you can never read as quickly as your TBR expands. i sometimes worry that i won’t be able to read all of the books on my TBR before I die, but then I think to myself that that’s useless, because I know i won’t be able to, but it’s the idea that *i might someday read that book* that makes adding it to my TBR fun. so really i just like to think that i’ll read every book on my TBR, but in reality i know that i won’t be able to. thanks so much for watching! i hope you have a lovely day

    Hey Inger!! I hope you’re doing well :) if you like daphne du Maurier’s work I’d definitely recommend Rebecca by her as well, if you like Jane Eyre at all-it has very similar vibes to that I think :) hope you have a nice day!

      Hi, thanks for the recommendation! I haven’t read Jane Eyre yet, so I couldn’t say if I like it, but I am looking forward to reading both it and Rebecca at some point in the future! Thanks for watching and I hope you have a great day too :)

    Hi inger, it is interesting that often if you watch the movie before reading the book, the book becomes a bit of a let down. I am reading 'The English Patient' by Michael Ondaatje which is very different to the film. That big epic is an old favourite of mine and was delighted when I saw the book available in Waterstones. The book is actually very well written and an interesting account of how war had very much effected the characters in the novel. I would never have believed I would have found a chapter or two on bomb defusing so interesting! But I guess that is why books are often full of surprises and movies really do take on their own life and develop a book sometimes in a different direction. You have done better than me by reading the books you have. I have only read three books this year. Thanks for your interesting discussion. The Daphne du Maurier books does sound a little unusual! Have a great week!

      Hi Caroline! It is always funny to see how different movies are from the books they’re based on, the book you’re reading sounds very interesting too! Thanks for watching and have a great week also :)

    I really enjoyed this review, well put and explained opinions. You give us all the negatives and positives without spoiling the book or making a really long video. It was very helpful to decide if I would enjoy reading the book. Thank you

    I don't know why CZcams recommended this video. maybe because Google knows I have watched the movie, and I happened to be a subscriber? By the way, I did like the movie and now after hearing your words, I don't have to read this book. Thank you for saving my time. I do enjoy your writers' routine videos. why don't you make this channel into a full-blown book review channel? or don't if you planning to become a writer.

    • @ingerlouise
      @ingerlouise Před 3 měsíci

      I’m glad my insights were useful😅 Thank you! I plan on making more writers’ routines videos, but they do take a lot more planning & research before I can make them. Whereas book reviews & reading vlogs are much easier & off-the-cuff. I like to make a variety because if my channel were dedicated to one thing only I’d get bored with it very quickly and I feel like viewers would too. Thanks for watching and for your comment :)
