Bro, been playing for HOURS with 6 Heroes and no clue how to use them. I thought "Hero Screen, that should do it". LMAO! How dumb I am. Then you click on them... and I had, but only the Units ABOVE them, the Soldiers... and there you go, a whole world opens unto thee.

I have never played XCOM so this type of game is new for me. Turn Based is hard wired in my brain and this game looks chunky (as in I could get my teeth into it).

Downloaded the demo and definitly getting this one, the moving armies and hero adventure parts remind me a bit of old 8 bit game, lords of midnight or something like that

Downloaded the demo on Steam, but my anti-virus flagged some of the files as ransomware and wouldn't let the game play. My anti-virus might be over protective, but I'll have to give this one a pass...too bad.

Other nations "in the way." Nope, not a conqueror at all! I like the actual dungeon crawl part, will have to keep an eye on this one! Oh! This is into RELEASE, NOT early access now? Color me surprised! Will see how the reviews go, and if bad stuff gets fixed quickish...

I like the option to speed through certain steps. Your first dungeon is cool step by step, but later when you have tons going on, it's cool to just zip past the super detailed bits.

I really adore these small solitaire games.

Wow... This game is a mix of "Might&Magic" and "Steel Panthers" plus Total War Warhammer under steroids... Wow... It seems also a digitalized version (under steroids alike) of "Mage Knight" and "Advanced Squad Leader" set up into a fantasy background!!! Amazing!!!

Can confirm it travels well - perfect size for taking on a cruise to the Bahamas last week. I Kickstarted this after getting A Glorious Chance (battle for Lake Ontario) for Christmas. It makes a nice counterpoint because this game has the whole campaign and is quite simple while Glorious Chance is mid-complexity and very focused on the battle for one lake. One strategy tip - use your Regulars! Their re-roll ability applies to DEFENSE as well as offense. I find myself using them as much or more to "hold the line" then to advance the line. On turns when I only get one supply, I usually bring up regulars to one front. Then when the British attack, I can make them re-roll if they succeed. It's a hard game to win, though -- You have to capture York and Montreal and the Lakes AND have the other 2 tracks advanced at least 3 spaces (IIRC). I guess that's fair - the most likely outcome is the historical stalemate.

Great review (as usual), Mike! These kind of games are so much fun. Especially when you point out the amount of decisions that need to be made. That, combined with the story elements and narrative make these so much fun. I regularly play "Target for Today" and "MAG 23" and (especially "MAG 23") both are similar regarding player input. What do you shoot at, how many planes do you put up, what about the weather, do you abort, which guns do you use to shoot at the fighter coming in at 12 o'clock high, do you use a power turret or a hand-held 0.50 cal. etc. I am waiting for my copy of "Silent Victory" and I think this one will also be purchased soon. Nice playthrough, though your die rolling was very unfortunate. I think I would house rule to add one to the die roll following a turn you rolled only 1RP and subtract one from the die roll for RP following a turn you rolled 3RP - just to reduce the swingy nature of the rolls a bit. I did order this game and the Pacific one after watching the playthrough. I can definitely see taking this on a trip or when I just have time for a quick game.

Thanks for a very clear playthrough. I sense the frustration- as it was historically- of back-and-forth success and failure (bad command US and bad supplies US). I wonder, though, if it might be better balance to make the British *unable* to attempt to recapture control of a lake if their naval base is lost- i.e. if US forces control Isle aux Nois(?)/Lake Champlain and KIngston/Lake Ontario. And the reverse for the US- Lake Erie/Presque Isle and Sackett's Harbor/Lake Ontario. One other thing; I know the die rolls were excruciatingly low, but you never chose to upgrade to US Regulars? Thoughts? Clearly this is a *much* better game than I expected- you showed it off well.

Alright, I’ve seen everything now, a war game that fit in my pocket 😊 Big fan of The War Of 1812 and I have to admit this is very different and very simple. I might pick this up if I can find it up here in the country who won The War Of 1812 😊 I had a fun time listening to you trying to pronounce the French Canadian names, you did not too bad considering. I was also very happy to see I am not the only one who sucks at dice rolling, I get so much flak for this when I play 1vs1 😊

You forgot to advance the turn once, so you played one extra turn...;-p So mathematically, try the land combat as you have the 1/6 more chance to advance, until they get regulars or forts. But that clever system of NOT owning the lakes mean they push you back more easily...so yeah, what to do?!? On average you'd expect 40 actions, but I didn't count them, but yeah, I think you were under that.

As a British Canadian, I was not displeased with the progress of this 🙂. I'd only just bought the game about an hour before you posted the video, so it was great to see it plays well and is fun. Thanks for the great review. It seems easy to extract a story from this and I'll pick up another for my nephew. I might have to house rule and add some stations so I can play the British and sweep down into DC....

This game has a little more decision making but the same mucho dice rolling as the old Guadalcanal game.

most strategy games are built around player-controlled actions that can tip the odds in the player's favor, so the player has impactful decisions to make. It seems there's very little of that in this game.

It's a simple game, but you can go from knowing nothing about the War of 1812, to understanding the importance of controlling the lakes, the effect of the Iriquois, and the objectives of the sides involved, in 15 minutes. Nice!

Have you played the Pacific version? Also I would have switched dice multiple times. I'm not superstitious just a little stitious.
