Waterdog Lakes-San Isabel National Forest-Salida Colorado-Day Hike
On June 17, 2024 we hiked to Waterdog Lakes both lower and upper lakes. Waterdog Lakes are located in the San Isabel National Forest off of highway 50 right outside Salida Colorado. This is a beautiful area of Colorado. It was a beautiful day and fantastic hike. It's a steep trail but worth the effort. 4.5 miles and 1200 feet of elevation gain.

On June 15, 2024 we hiked to Ouzel Lake located in the Wild Basin of Rocky Mountain National Park. We bypassed Ouzel Falls and took the campsite trail to reconnect to the Ouzel Lake Trail. On June 2, 2024 I solo hiked to Finch Lake in the Wild Basin of Rocky Mountain National Park. The road is open now through the Wild Basin. This is a steep hike and mostly through the forest with views along the way. The snowmelt has finally taken off with running creeks through some areas of the trail. It was a beautiful day and a fantastic hike. 9 miles 1984 feet of elevation gain.

On May 2, 2024 we combined two hikes in the Lump Ridge area of Rocky Mountain National Park, MacGregor Falls and Gem Lake. It was so nice to hike on dry trails. It's still winter conditions in the higher elevations of RMNP. It was a fantastic hike and day. 10 miles and 1800 feet of elevation gain.

On April 12, 2024 we did a huge hike to Fox Creek Falls and West Creek Falls in Rocky Mountain National Park. This is a more remote area of RMNP. This is a strenuous hike. On September 28, 2023 I solo hiked to six beautiful high alpine lakes in Rocky Mountain National Park, Bear, Nymph, Dream, Emerald, Lake Haiyaha and The Loch. 8 miles and 1712 feet of elevation gain. Love Wild Basin trails, kinda surprised Ouzel was doable this early, tends to be a damp hike from the turn off, but a very pretty and nice video.

A very lovely trail! Loved Bridal Veil Falls! We've heard good things about Salomon shoes. Those areas you were on did look steep. Our favorite hiking shoe is La Sportiva. They are so lightweight and grippy. We used them on Angels Landing in Utah last year, and they rock! Thanks for sharing! Nice video! ❤

Thanks so much for your videos. As a much younger person, in the 1970s and 80s, I lived in Colorado and enjoyed many backpacking trips throughout the Indian Peaks. I now live in PA and being able to revisit the Indian Peaks through your videos is a real treat!
Awe. Thanks so much. We'll have lots of new adventures for you, as soon as the snow is gone. The snowpack for northern Colorado this time of year is 150% above normal. We have backpacking trips in the Indian Peaks this summer. New areas we have never been too.
My wife and I did a 3 day backpack in August of the King lake Devils Thumb loop. Great trip except for the close lightening strike just below King lake where we felt the ground shake under our tent. Scary!

We're going to explore Betty and Bob lakes, some of the tarns in that area and also hike over to the James Peak Wilderness. 2 nights, three days. This video was our first time on the Hessie Trail. Beautiful scenery. IPW is my fav area, and this hike has been on my list forever but I never managed to get a permit. May have to do it as a day trip
I know there is a 3 day advanced permit, they begin May 30th. www.recreation.gov/permits/4675319. I hope you get to experience this magical place. You could always get a permit for two days in the Cascade Creek Zone and camp at Pawnee Lake. It's beautiful. You could hike over to Mirror and Crater Lakes the next day. It's only 3 miles one way. www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/fseprd993264.pdf The pink area just means no fires. There are openings as of now in August.

Great video! I don't want to be that guy but I'm pretty sure that waterfall at the bridge is North Inlet Falls. War Dance Falls is in the same area but requires a pretty rough scramble/bushwhack to get to. There's no bridge at War Dance either! One of my fav backpacking trips!

Around the 4:25 mark, when you're blocked from the bridge--looks like lots of old down trees! Do those get uprooted/downed in the spring melt? Thank you for the beautiful spring hike!
It can happen. We actually heard a huge tree fall while we were hiking out. Fortunately it wasn't close to us.
