How to Remove a Stuck Hose Bibb Vacuum Breaker - Fix your Faucet!
In this video, I demonstrate how to remove a stuck vacuum breaker from your hose bibb or spigot. These vacuum breakers have a set screw that is designed to break off during installation, making the vacuum breaker very difficult to remove. Luckily, it can be removed with the right technique and proper tools.
If your local code requires a new vacuum breaker to be installed, I highly recommend NOT breaking off the set screw, it will make future replacements so much easier.

Loosening Seized Pipe Threads with a Cold Chisel
Nice and quick video 😊
Ok question I'm a dork I was chipping 0:15 the freezer ice out and stabbed the copper tube witch put a little hole in it and all the freon leaked😢 can it be sealed with anything? Or am I just screwed
I have to cut a cast iron wood stove ...since I only have to do straight cuts, would I be better off with a grinder? (regardless of the fire hazard)
Why no Heat Sink Or wet rag ❓❓❓
Dumb question alert with the 3 copper pipes going into the compressor or if theres only 2 how do you choose which pipe to pierce?
You always want to pierce the low side which will be larger diameter and will feel cold to the touch when the system is running.
I’ve got several non working dehumidifiers and want to try this but the gases are labeled R22 9.9oz on the old Kenmore and The Toshiba is R410A/6.88oz/0.195kg Can I use the 134a ?
You cannot use 134a in an R22 system, but they sell R22 substitutes.
Does dewalt make something like this?
@@adrianruiz8690 yeah I think so!
How do I know what refrigerant to use?
The back of the refrigerator will have a label that states which type of refrigerant to use. Some refrigerants like R-12 are no longer produced but they make replacements.
Are you supposed to do this with the refrigerator turned on or turned off?
Great Video! Thank you for making it.
what is the name of the tool sir? thabks
I just used a normal wrench to install the repair clamp. Any adjustable wrench or socket wrench will work.
If they require such obstacles to removal, the authorities should mandate a minimum of ten years of service life in the accessory.
I have the M18 Hackzall. I find myself wanting the M12 version also 👍
They took an extremely simple thing and ruined it just like the government ruined the gas can. This hose sucks.
is there a low side and high side, if so how do you tell the difference
The low side (the line to be tapped) is larger in diameter and feels cold during operation.
Not bad! But definitely you should grind a groove into that crack so you can penetrate more into the metal. But for something small that’ll definitely hold 👍
Thanks for the tip!
Do you find this more useful; than left drill/tap screw extractors?
These are useful for screws with stripped heads, screw extractors are for broken screws or bolts.
You should bury cast iron in lime after welding.
Why haven't you taken down the original video where you endorse this thing. If someone is watching on their TV like I do and doesn't click on the comments they couldn't tell that for over a year you've known this was garbage. I checked the comments since it was obvious the press didn't look right. I wonder how many have wasted money because that first video came up in their feed in the past year.
They sell wheel lock keys and you can also tap a socket over the wheel lock to take it off. Don’t leave your car where someone has the time to steal your wheels!
Agreed, always park in a safe spot! Wheel locks are mostly a form of deterrence.
It's a 2×4.
It makes me SICK to think about how many cheap-ass dehumidifiers i habe paid for and subsequently left out at the curb just a few years later due to the shoddy design/fabrication of modern household appliances in the past 30 years. Literally dozens of them between my multiple homes, hunting trailer home, my home garage/shop, and the multiple units i have to keep running year round in my small machine shop so my expensive lathe, mill, and other machines don't develop surface rust! All those machines just thrown in the city dump! When they could have probably very easily been fixed! What a waste of money and undue damage to the environment replacing these cheap things every couple years. The government should require these things to last on average 10 years before requiring major maintenance or replacement, or make the manufacturers pay an environmental damage fine!
I agree, modern appliances are becoming disposable. Unfortunately, the rise of the "smart home" and putting complex electronics in everything will only make DIY repairs harder in the future.
Great video....next time please avoid the word tighten or any variations of the word tighten.....haha teasing
Thank you so much ❤❤
Excellent!
Wow fixing a $20 vise
It was just a fun little experiment to see if welding cast iron without expensive nickel electrodes is possible.
This is how you get good practice on anything you can
The surface is like a mirror, quite impressive!
This definitely isn’t going to stay cold first off if your system is low that means there is leak Freon doesn’t just disappear adding Freon without finding and sealing the leak you will have super warm fridge with in two days second the tap in valve is made only for recovering refrigerant not charging they also do leak as well third r134a needs to go in liquid so bottle should be upside down fourth you are not using a scale and basically guessing the charge videos like this is how my customers think they can do it on there own when there being lied to!
In my case I had to do the refill after 2years of doing this. But other than that, fridge was working perfectly for 2 years so it's a really useful tip.
A safe place don’t mean bury it in the woods or safety deposit box at TRAX~NYC 🐿 leave it in the car so the thieves can remove the wheels after they’ve removed your car 😘
And its proven that those doesnt do anything. If they want ur wheels they are taking them no matter what u do
They still offer some deterrence if you have relatively common wheels, they’ll just move on to another car.
And leave your wheel lock key in the glove box! Your technician will thank you. I don't want to search your car looking for it.
Some cars have a special spot for the wheel lock key but I usually put it in the cupholder when I go to the tire shop
Neat! Didn’t know you could weld cast like that
Me neither! The weld held up great, this tiny vise lives outside and comes in handy for holding small parts
@@DragonBuildsBecouse cast iron crystilises when made and reintrodusing heat will make it develop internal stresses and it is possible to it crack again near the weld. You said it will hold only parts for painting so it should be fine but if I were you I would'nt crank it to tight so to not crack it again
@@Xojon_0 I agree. I would not attempt this repair on something that has a lot of stress on it, but for light duty fixes it works great.
It's probably cast steel
Preheat and nickel rod will usually get you better results. Preheat is key or it can go ping.
How does that stop somebody from stealing my car
These prevent people from tampering with your wheels, they are not car theft prevention devices.
@@DragonBuilds hey your the one that said it would protect my car from theft.
@@magenlin I said it would protect from WHEEL theft
If you're doing gas use black fittings and pipe not galvanized
Galvanized meets code in California
i need to do this for my sprinkler system. I was telling my old lady the other day I better get to it before it shakes a joint loose somewhere and causes an actual problem. Also, you never know what that pipe could be vibrating against and will cause a friction leak eventually.
Plumbers Call that a shock absorber
This one was labeled as a water hammer arrestor, I usually see larger ones labeled as shock absorbers.
For bird drops, do you need to use cloth to clean after soap foam?
The best way to remove stubborn bird droppings is by using a bug and tar remover using a microfiber cloth. Keep in mind that this may remove any wax or sealant, so I recommend applying a ceramic spray coating afterward.
"It's that easy" * *doesn't mention the cost of these tools**
The Klein brand one is $50, guess it depends on how frequently you find yourself doing electrical work If it's worth it
They're not that pricey. Certainly cheaper than fire damage or a trip to the emergency room. For a cheaper alternative you could just plug in a radio though, and blast it while cycling through breakers. Still, for the price, they're worth it to have if you ever do any electrical work around the house.
You are more than welcome to hire an electrician for $150/hr if you feel $50 for the proper tools is too much
Buy long hoses !
I love the sound it makes.
Is that automotive refrigerant ?
Also never ever use type M copper pipes. Use at least type L.
I have never had any issues using Type M copper, the problem is just with the low quality tool.
quite a few comments on puncturing the coils while using an ice pick or screwdriver to chip ice, NOOOO! jut turn the darn thing off! Pour hot water over the ice formations if that is too slow. I got a fridge that just won get cold on the bottom as the cooling is all on top freezer portion. Freezer works fine with some ice formation but the fridge portion gets cold from the freezer via a adjustable air channel, like a conduit fromt he top and its always icing closed. ITs an old refer, about 20 years. Do you think Im just low?
Or use pex... imagine that
PEX is a good option too but I prefer copper :)
what is this unprofessional dogs methods you need to let the motor work so the gas enter the system XDDDDD big fail.
You're not supposed to add solder with the flame off the female end, it defeats the capillary suction.
A big part of the job is making the patch match. Why does everyone leave this part out and find that exceptable as instructions on patching. It is NOT!
Was that enough solder? I use way more but maybe too much
Once you see a ring form around the pipe you know that you have used enough solder. A handy trick is to use a length of solder equal to the pipe size, such as 1/2" of solder for a 1/2" pipe.
Thanks! It works very well and saved me $$$!
