Hi kids, this is a question video... Do you still like the West? these days, that's a tough claim to make. #alternativeliving #expat #philippines #filipina #leavingusa

May I ask what your normal monthly budget is for expenses? Also, do nearly all of the rural province barangays have potable water and electricity?
My electric, gas for stove.. electric stove available but more expensive...landline, 65mb per sec high speed internet, and 1 cell phone is around 100 to 120 Canadian per month. Water is available..5 gal portable for 35 peso, about 90 cents canadian. Food for us 2..with lots of snack foods from America..lays chips cola, etc is about $200 canadian. Rent is $ 120 month.
Noise is a new one for me. Thanks

Lol !! Typo !!
Nice place honestly how long to get used to roosters and dogs at night while sleeping...if windows open ? Thanks
It was a few nights... the dogs are silent to dawn normally as are the roosters mostly..unless spooked.
move to the mountain areas (high elevation)
Cooler for sure!
One of the reasons why I chose Thailand over the Philippines (after leaving my teaching job in China) was the medical care. The reason I chose Bangkok was - the bookstore scene here. This is something not talked about frequently on vlogs. Usually vloggers here talk about dating, bar girls etc.
I touch on dating. But as I've only dated 1...I can't be too involved in that, really. As for the rest, yes... some good and some bad. Overall though, I'm happy here, like the whole place, then people especially.
Not sure if it was mentioned in the video, but what area is this? Cheers
San Pablo, Laguna. 15 min south of the city.
I totally agree with your video. Run for your life is right! I left NYC in 2018 at 55 yo because I was afraid of retiring in poverty there on Social Security. My situation isn’t an isolated one. For a variety of different reasons, 40% of all American retirees rely solely on Social Security retirement. I visited the Philippines 5 times before deciding to retire here. It took me a year to adapt once I moved here and honestly to fall in love with the Philippines. By moving here and setting myself up with a $250 a month total cost of living (as a single guy), my retirement income will be significantly more than I will ever need here, allowing me to expand my retirement possibilities, such as spending 3 months out of the year in Italy. I also agree with what you said about being an adventurer, as it’s the road to affordable living here. For those who aren’t willing to venture off the beaten path of Western familiarities, which are all here, won’t benefit financially as much as us who do. I’ve always been interested in seeing and experiencing how the locals live wherever I’ve traveled and that curiosity has served me well here in the Philippines. Actually, it’s served me phenomenally as I’ve adopted a Filipino way of life, which is not only super affordable, but I believe super safe. Those who move here living flashy lifestyles aren’t going to be as safe. Filipinos know that and it’s why you don’t see many of them going around advertising their wealth. Of all of the people thought to be poor, only about 20% actually are. The rest are faking it. Foreigners would be wise to emulate the fakers. Just saying. Otherwise, they will attract the wrong kind of attention and unwanted drama or worse. I don’t recommend guys meet any foreigners online, especially for dating. The problem is, if a guy has never been to a country and he’s talking to somebody from that country, it’s nearly impossible for him to tell whether he’s talking to somebody good or bad, and whether they’re being honest or not. There are a lot of romance scammers online and they are well trained at manipulating lonely people looking for love. Even the wisest, and most forewarned can find themselves being taken advantage of by a scammer, or worse, married to one. I know one personally that is about to lose 1/2 of his wealth to a foreign scammer. Here, I’ve been told by different Filipinos, do not date online. It’s too dangerous. It is much better to move to whatever country you want to move to or find a partner, and get to know the people there first. Then, after wise to whose good and whose snot, selecting amongst them the best. Especially here in the Philippines, where a foreigner rates very high and so getting the best is very likely. I never knew what homesickness felt like till I traveled away from the Philippines. This is home. ❤
I was amazed at the lower cost of living, the happy faces everywhere and the general atmosphere. It's not for everyone, but it's perfect for me.
My modern one bedroom townhome apartment south of Manila is $70 USD per month. I’ve lived here for six years in 4 different places and have never paid over $100 a month rent. At one place, I only paid $40 a month including utilities. As a single guy, my cost of living averages around $250 a month. And that is a comfortable lifestyle, not luxurious, which is not my cup of tea, but I enjoy everything my heart desires. It’s great you made this video because I see some really stupid ones out there claiming that the cost of living here is a lot higher than it actually is. Without coming here and experiencing this first hand, I would have never known things were so affordable, because of all of the misinformation online.
Nice places are easy to find. Even in Manila. We are 85 km south in the provinces. Farming community.. nice people, lots of social events. We love the community spirit.
How's life treating you back on the mainland?
All is well here in Canadia. Work work work. Save save save. Then, back to the arms I love.
Great video, I’ll be doing just what you said, liquidate and move and start out new and leave nothing behind
PLAN WELL. It's a bug jump. Don't make it difficult when you're too late to change your mind. In the plus side...I'm sure younwill be single for a very short time and the lucky filipina to bag you Mr trophy foreigner will be the best relationship you will ever have in your life.
Here's where I'm going. Trace Martires - an hour S of Mania Airport. Cheap cost of living area yet still easy day trips to the best of Manila if desired - such as malls or SS office or best hospitals & health care...... -- Steve's been there 7 years (retired US Navy) helping expats retire and have a - "soft landing" from the states over there ! -- 400+ ft. elevation - comes with cooler breezes '''there''' --&-- Tagaytay - even cooler @ 2000 ft. is only 30 minutes & 10 miles S of there. Your really straight forward subscribed. Really hoping Philippines will follow like Thailand and made medical tourism a serious industry with its workforce mainly focused on health care
That would be a great idea.
Hope I can chat with you guys by email? or Whatsapp? before I arrive to Manila in September
We have email, but I'm in Canada until end of October at least. Our email is... Pathssouth@gmail.com
That's crazy crossing the street!!🤕😳
Guys, this trip watching Nelson bang his head on the Jeepnee and all the traffic has me laughing at the chaos!🫢🙃 How was all that exhaust from the cars? woof
It's.not too bad...the jeepneys sometimes smoke alot. The cars are not to bad.
What a nice area Nelson, how would I get ahold of you once I've landed in Manila? I should arrive on Sept 2nd, probably sleep for a few days but would like to arrange a visit to your location if you're around?? I last saw you were in Canada? Thanks Dave
Yes Dave..I'm sorry but I will still be in Canada at that time...Inwont be able to return before end of October.
@@SouthPaths I understand and will plan after your return, would love to meet you guys. I will go to Cebu at least for Sept to October to scout around, so much to learn and see. Thanks Nelson
As long as you got millions it’s always fun in the Philippines 😂
If you have millions, it's fun anywhere, LOL !!!
Hello Nelson! I sent you a personal e-mail but it bounced back saying it "has been blocked." Love your videos; I'd ask you to keep them coming but I know you're too busy paying attention to the road.<grin>
Blocked? Weird...
The storage space I would want would be over there. But I'm not hearing much about storage lockers over there. Where could I send my balakbayan boxes to from the states when the time comes?
I really can't say...your right...I never saw a storage place as we have here in North America. I'm sure there is a solution however...research it.
Hi Nelson, another Aussie here. There is no right way to meet the right Filipina. I've visited the Philippines a number of times for a month each time, I did use dating sites just before and during my time there. I chatted to many Filipinas, most were looking for security/ a rescuer. I wasn't interested in becoming a stepfather at my age 67 yrs old, so that discounted most of the younger seperated/ single mothers, these days very happy to settle for a more mature caring companion, they all come equiped with similar accessories so quality trumps most things now. I'm a body builder and look much younger than my age so I find myself being approached by random woman probably 5-10 times a week when I am out and about whether in the city or the province, these woman don't understand that for safety sake their forwardness precludes them from any sort of relationship no matter how temporary particularly considering the high rates of HIV and other STDs floating around SE Asia, particularly the Philippines. Last trip in feb/mar I met a 50 yr old Filipina online and spent the month down in Bicol. Single, never been married, no children, always lived at home, now takes care of her elderly parents, her mother has alzhimers. She runs her little side hustles/businesses to support herself, the rest of the siblings run businesses/careers and investments, a fairly entrepreneurial family. I'm moving permanently to the Philippines next month, I've had this planned for over 5 years, originally I was looking at the Cavite/Batangas area but will now move to Bicol, get myself a place on my own and see how things progress with my GF?, time will tell. It's important to be sure what yiu are actually looking for and what you realistically need because each age group comes with their own issues, both us and the Filipinas. Always tread carefully, we are on a high risk adventure and we don't recover so easily these days. Cheers Aussie John
Words well spoken Nelson! Sail away from the safe harbour. 😊 don’t be a nervous Nelly. Take a chance. ❤️😊
Exactly..toss off the bow lines and sail away.
I like your honesty i was there for a month did some traveling met a nice Filipina came back to the states for to months selling my car pay off some bills bought a one way ticket back in October never looking back
Exactly as I did. 2.5 week visit followed by 6 months here to make arrangements, paid off my debts and cashed out. I will try to stay there when I return this fall. I have a few money trees sprouting.
Besides.... if it don't work out....you can always return and become a drone again LOL !!!
Let’s face the facts, everything and everyone cost money. The women are cheap and plentiful. Training and trying to teach them western traits is an uphill battle. Fixing those teeth and healthcare will beat your pockets up. Shakedowns and over priced items sold to westerns, they think you rich.
But i have only one reason why many forieners want to go in our country vs your 5 reason out😂.. ALL THEY CONSUMPTION ARE CHEAPER ONE.. NO STRESS AT ALL.. IF YOU DO NOT LIKE A TRAFFIC JAM. GO MARS😂😂😂
Nice sharing video it's very informative to everyone. New friend here

Oh I have family. Sadly the Ex wife did well in the divorce. So I'm.left to rebuild..at 61...bur you donwhatbyiu must do to survive.

I considered Thailand...just never got there.

Yes, I love that
The way you old farts gush about your child brides like school bois is patheitic. 🤮
Actually, my "child bride"...is 58....nice try. Cheers.
@@SouthPaths Fair enough. Well played. Assumed you were like the rest of em.
Thankyou. I don't personally think it's a bad thing...if it's a reasonable difference...say ok..60 yr old guy. I would personally draw the line for myself at 45..yes. But that said...people will do what they will do. I can't be too opinionated about them... don't know what motivates them, but whatever. Their lives. My concern is that the old guys with very young filipinas will make us all look bad. Therr are MANY widows and abandoned older women here that would treat a similar age guy like he was a real prize and no one would look asked and that. Why cause yourself trouble chasing 22 yr old girls.
Thanks for this. From Toronto and plan on retiring within 2 years and at least visiting the Philippines if not staying. 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
That's what I did. I visited for 3 weeks in Febuary of 23...decided to jump in the summer, arrived back in September, got a girl, and We are happy as a pair of clams ! It's different alright...but it's nice.
Don’t move. War is imminent in the Phils as proxy of US against China
I've watched this closely...if it happens, and I'm there, then I will do what's expected of me. I definitely hope not! But yes...ww3 is a serious reality, rich men with world domination in their eyes again. Sad but true.
Not going to happen, China has way too many problems to start a war.
@@piratecovephilippines4711 many would say the exact opposite it's when countries have problems that war becomes a possible viable solution 🤔 ✌️
I hope your right. Really I do.
weakling. even Filipinos arent afraid
You need to come here permanently brother
It is my hope! We are doing our best to grow the channel, and I will do some investing with my savings. Part of my pension is available to me now.
Cool @@SouthPaths
Great video
Thanks for the visit
I saw stuff in the Philippines which I don't even dare telling to my fellow Canadians by fear they won't believe me. Like what I saw in a place they call "wet market".
I saw some hideous things in Canada, too... like tent cities... or....say, Liberal policy makers...what was your point again?
@@SouthPaths He boy. Can't even compare. Based on what I saw, dignity doesn't exist outside malls in the Philippines. It exists, but only for super rich people. Most Filipinos want to leave for a better life and we can't blame them. I don't think it's a good idea to move in a country where most people want to leave. There are way too many problems down there. Not just the Philippines. A friend of mine just went to spend 2 weeks in Mexico. He said many people were angrily staring at him. After 8pm he couldn't go out. It's too dangerous.
Well... you better stay in Canada then..stay safe. I spent 9 months in the Philippines, 1 guy...1...flipped me the bird in all that time. I'm sure you will be happier in the snow. Cheers!
@@SouthPathsI respect your decision.
It's been 12 years now. Starting over one last time. Good video.
Thankyou !
Little bit of noise? hahah sure. Whata heck was that yelling in the hall?
Lol, you never know...
thanks for encouragement and your perspective. I went to Mindoro in Feb '24 for 2 weeks and returned without a scratch! I thoroughly enjoyed it. I am planning to go again for longer. Vancouver 63 divorced.
Same thing here...61 divorced, 1 chance left for adventure.
The best thing about a good Filipina is the fact that she will inspire you to be a better version of yourself. Food, medications, electricity. gas, electronics are very expensive here. Also, finding a spacious home to rent is difficult and expensive. Unless you are moving here for a good Filipina stay in your home country. Also, land is not cheap here.
Yes..she is doing that!
whyt ?! its the best country...english speaking, decent down to eart..cheap and friendly...im here sincwe 2002 and heppy
Excellent!
Why dont you move her in canada life is better there, you know the culture in the Philippines they are so family oriented and theres a saying there if you marry a Filipina you married her whole family too! And to those expats who cant accept that better not to marry a Filipina
Oh I know what you mean...and that's perfectly OK with me. I support her 1 sons young family a little each month. Nothing I can not afford. It's ok with me, many disagree, but it's the way I is here. As for moving her to Canada...nooo..I have no interest in living here in Canada full time...way more expensive than helping family and living there.
@@SouthPaths oh good for you, you are a few expats understand the real Filipino family culture
When in Rome, do as the Roman's. I am a guest here in the Philippines, and I don't forget that. Blend in, or you won't be welcome. It's simple, and it's fair. I have more than my neighbor , I should be willing to help a reasonable amount. It's simply fair.
Did you meet your gf there or online before you got there, thnx
Online..she picked.me, factually..6 months of online and then flew to meet her for 2 weeks, 7 months later I moved over for 9 months, now back to work the summer and return..
