    I am obsessed with that type of analog joystick and touchpad sensors, like the one on the steamdeck, there will be an arcade control with an analog joystick and a touchpad, both with buttons that can be pressed, to be able to play devil may cry or ninja gaiden, even a gears of war; can you build one?🙂🙃😊😃

      There may be a way to connect a touchpad to the USB port of the Xbox adaptive controller. It's also theoretically possible to connect a touchpad to a Brook Wireless Fighting board but I haven't tried it. The Brook WFB is what I've used so far to build my own custom controllers.

    great video.. BUT MY QUESTION.... Hitbox Crossup uses a common Sanwa JLF joystick for the left analog joystick and normal push buttons for the DPAD, is it possible to either convert the signal or use a common arcade joystick for the analog port on the Brook fighting boards?

    • @enabled5714
      @enabled5714 Před 4 měsíci

      It isn't possible to connect a common arcade joystick to the analog ports, but the Brook fighting boards have other ports for the DPad for exactly what you want to do. Those ports will work with a common arcade joystick and you won't need to use the analog ports.

    • @jccfrancis
      @jccfrancis Před 4 měsíci

      @@enabled5714 actually what I want to replicate is the Hitbox Crossup behavior, because Tekken allows you to use simultaneously both the D-Pad and the Left Analog stick at the same time, along the SOCD Cleaner for simultaneous inputs you can shortcut stuff, but there is no current Analog to switch buttons converter on the market and only the Hitbox Crossup offers this feature, but I'm no electrical engineer so I don't know how difficult is to provide/create such an interface. In my mind, my logic says that this X/Y conectors that use a single pin use a 0-1 range meaning the potentiometer you mention provides values in those ranges, and an interface to emulate this should send and max/min value depending if a button is pressed (e.g. left or right) to the Brook pin Btw thanks for your fast response! ah... the PS4+Audio Brook PCB is the one that supports DPad and both Analog Sticks

    • @enabled5714
      @enabled5714 Před 4 měsíci

      @@jccfrancis I'm no hitbox/crossup expert but I did look them up to try and understand what the crossup does. I know they advertise the stick as analog but it doesn't make sense for a standard arcade joystick to be used as analog. From my understanding, the crossup has a joystick that does the same thing as the D-Pad buttons on a hitbox so essentially you have two devices that perform the same function. You can do this with the Brook board if you wire a button and a joystick into the same terminal on the board. Take a look at 26:12 of this video: czcams.com/video/djrhOrVDydg/video.html where I show how to make a joystick and buttons do the same thing. Not sure if this is the same thing you are trying to do.

      @gastongaston Před 5 měsíci

      I don't think so, I have 2 batteries that I bought with this kit + 1 original PS3 battery (I disassembled an original joystick to test this). When connecting the battery, the board only discharges it until it reaches zero but never charges again. In turn, all these batteries, if I connect them to the PS3 joystick, charge normally without problems. Do you play some combination of keys or do you leave the stick in some kind of "charging mode" so that it charges its batteries?@@enabled5714

    hi do you think this analog joystick would work in mame with games like hang on, outrun and arkanoid (by which i mean would the joystick work in the way that, in playing Hang-On for example, you could push gently left or right to get the bike to lean a bit, whereas pushing fully left or right will action the full turn of the bike). and also do u know if it's possible to connect the joystick via usb?

    • @enabled5714
      @enabled5714 Před 5 měsíci

      I don't know enough about mame to provide a definitive answer, but my uneducated answer is no, this joystick will not work in the manner you want to use it. This joystick does not/cannot connect via USB without help from an Arduino or something similar. You might take a look at the Ultrastik 360 which does connect via USB and can be programmed to operate in different configurations using the mapping software provided by Ultimarc. It's more expensive, but may be the closest out of the box solution to what you are trying to do.

    Just found this channel and it's pure GOLD. I can tell you are a great guy and you have earned a new sub. Do you have any opinions on hall effect compared to conventional potentiometer design in terms of accuracy? I've heard hall effect is better and possibly less prone to drift(?) When you finished the build, how smooth/precise was the input?

    • @enabled5714
      @enabled5714 Před 10 měsíci

      Hi, thanks for the positive feedback! I think the hall effect design has a similar accuracy as a potentiometer design when they are both new and also assuming that they are equal quality. However, I agree with your comment that over time the potentiometer design is more prone to drift than the hall effect design. The reason is the potentiometers wear out with use whereas the hall effect designs have fewer parts to wear out so they last longer. The downside to the hall effect sensors is the cost and they require power to operate them. In order for me to use the hall effect design with the Brook Wireless Fighting board I had to make some modifications which caused some control issues in the beginning. With a few adjustments the joysticks worked great for gaming. They took some getting used to, but with practice I'd say they are just as precise as a regular thumbstick.

Since then, I have experimented with the SJ@JX joysticks, you can find a short review of those here: czcams.com/video/gTxStAB1YEU/video.html and a joystick build I made for the XBox Adaptive controller using SJ@JX here: czcams.com/video/z1iX98gY0iQ/video.html I haven't put a lot of play time on the SJ@JX joysticks so I don't know yet how well they work long term. I'm wondering what the voltage should be? or does it matter? My board is 12v so that would be easiest but I can attach a regulator to make it 5v.

      Hi, for up, down, left, and right as used on the directional pad, you want to use a regular arcade joystick (see link below for an example) rather than an analog joystick. The Brook WFB has terminals to connect up, down, left and right in the same terminal block as the other buttons such as X, O, Triangle and square. www.amazon.com/Joystick-Adjustable-Competition-Classic-Cabinet/dp/B0824P1CDS/ref=sr_1_20?crid=259OVL8MKIBJP&keywords=arcade+joystick&qid=1689121526&sprefix=arcade+joystick%2Caps%2C102&sr=8-20

    Hi! This is a great video and it is a great project you have there! I wanted to ask you about those 2 black joysticks you have, to me the one with the bigger handle looks easier to control, more precise for its size and more fluent to move than the one with the little handle from the same brand. I want to buy one of these so if you can give me an insight about these aspects that would be really helpful! Thank you!

    • @enabled5714
      @enabled5714 Před rokem

      Hi! I wouldn't say one is any easier to control or precise than the other as they are the exact same design other than the handle. It really depends on how you plan to use it. The larger handle joystick has the button and twist feature which is pretty cool, but if you don't have good finger dexterity then those features won't be very useful. I don't think you can go wrong either way.

    I seem to be stuck at installing the raw analog firmware. Did you have any trouble with it? Using the UltraMap program, I can change a stick into Firmware update mode, but when I go to the UUpload program it says there is no device connected. Even when Windows lists it as one of the connected devices. Edit: I noticed that the connected devices thing said the driver wasn't properly installed, so I checked and Ultimarc has that on their Support page under Programming. Finally got my controller to work thanks to this video and the links you provided, so thanks a ton. Hope you have great luck with your future projects.

The PS4+ Audio Fighting Board does accommodate analog joysticks and has the same row of pins as the Wireless Fighting Board. I may be able to put something together with the zero delay board and show a video. That would only work on a PC though.

    Last year I looked into making an arcade setup with analogue sticks (mostly to play NFL blitz and other midway 49 way games), and didn't find any info, so it's really cool you're tackling these experiments. After a long search, I found a Quasimodo arcade or "quasicade" Jr for $100 and that has basically satisfied me more than adequately (although I can't find adapters to Dreamcast just yet, but these work with PS2, og Xbox, and GameCube, and PC). Anyway, I appreciate you documenting your journey:)

My only experience with hall effect sensor joystick is the UltraStik 360 which will work with the Brook board but it requires a few extra modifications. The Gulikit might work, but I can't say for certain without trying them. Maybe someone else will see this and provide some more info.

    Hi! Thanks so much for your review. I've been having a hard time trying to find an analog stick in a fighting stick form factor, and I managed to find one of these for around the same price if not a little higher than you described on Amazon. Much of what you mentioned is included with mine, except that they significantly greased the bottom of the shaft and inside the craters of the bearings so that they wouldn't stick or grind away. The way it's made reminds me of old 3rd party N64 controllers, probrably a good example is SuperAct or InterAct, whose potentiometers are large enough to fit in those large controllers. It should also be possible to install tighter springs on each end of the bearings to improve the snap back to center. It's nice that the leads of the poteniometers are already wired up, but it is indeed confusing where they're supposed to connect aside from a Brook Wireless board with different connectors. I'm stuck deciding if I want to dedicate it for a Brook Wireless or try a custom PCB solution that can immediately accept the SJ@JX's connections, but it's tough finding documentation on this, nevermind the item. The only other analog joysticks in that form factor that I've heard of are Hall Effect sensing magnometer sticks from Sanwa (the JLM instead of the JLF), and a custom-made one behind the scenes for a Smash Bros stick, both of which I don't believe have seen the light of day. It's a shame because there's too much demand from the fighting game community for digital keypads instead of upgrading from switches to poteniometers, but immediate response is a priority over full range.

    • @kadeemjames3264
      @kadeemjames3264 Před rokem

      These actually sell as a kit on Amazon that does include the encoder that accepts the existing connectors.

    • @enabled5714
      @enabled5714 Před rokem

      If I were doing it again, I would make an adapter cable that goes from the Brook board to the connector that comes with the SJ@JX. That way you could keep the connector intact and unplug it anytime.
