    I respect Kenny’s take on things and genuinely appreciate when you have him on the program. Not trying to be harsh but Arniel should be nowhere near the top of the list or be considered a front runner. Plenty of coaching jobs around the league and in what other market would he be at the top of the list or even get an interview? He just doesn’t have that proven track record that I think is so badly needed for this team. Plenty of other good names should be considered before him imo. This is such a critical juncture for this organization and its fans. Messing this up with an inside (part of the cub) type hire would be disastrous. This is such a ruthless business and I think it’s time for the team to be a little bolder with the next coaching change. Bones laid down a path and someone can expand on this success. Hope I’m wrong and still a jets fan either way!!

    We can all agree the jets are not cup contenders until they start playing playoff style hockey. Making that transition from seasonal play where you have time to make pretty passes, to simplified hockey getting traffic in front and wrist shots from the point. Look at how most goals are scored in the playoffs. I've said before SPECIAL TEAMS PLAY will win games.

    Special teams and smaller slower dmen. They need to make changes on the backend. Need to get bigger and puck movers. Jets got hemmed in their zone because they lost puck battles. Forwards can only do much. Poink denelo and schmidt need to go. Playoffs is less space and tight checking. Jets need to figure out how to be more aggressive on their PK and get net front presence.

    Murat nails it as usual. 🎯 The Jets were badly out-schemed vs the Avs. The organization also knew all season that the pp/pk were costing them victories. While the PP improved the PK was dismal all season because of its passive style. The Jets need to define their team identity to align with the fans: hardworking, intense, no nonsense. There's no place for an ultra passive pk & dzone strategy in that.

    • @rudeboy4710
      @rudeboy4710 Před dnem

      The pk was definitely awful all year long and Colorado made the necessary strategic adjustments to crush the jets. One of the things that really scares me the most is the potential hire of Arniel. He oversaw that pk and the defence. I think they need someone more progressive and able to use the info they have from things like analytics and put the players in the best position to succeed. I mean Arniel ovesaw the d and allowed pionk to play 20 mins a game when he clearly was struggling!

      @@rudeboy4710 I hear you. Tnse always seems to play it safe with these decisions, ensuring more mediocrity. I wanna see a coach that lights a fire under these guys arses. Who cares if the coach wears out his welcome after 3 years? Chipman seems to think hiring a coach or GM is for life. It's not. Lots of guys lining up to coach in the NHL.

    • @pomerlain8924
      @pomerlain8924 Před dnem

      @@TroyStevens430 Couldn't agree more. TNSE for the Jets appears to be a discount version of what MLSE is for the Maple Leafs. They want to be safe and comfortable. Saying "we're all in" while being safe is not truly being all in. TNSE cares more about the bottom line and rewarding loyalty and friendship over results. How else can we explain Chevy still keeping his job as GM? And people keep saying he's done a good job. 13 seasons and 3 playoff series wins qualifies as a good job? We've seen GMs that have won cups get fired after a few disappointing years. How can they expect to even try to entice decent, not top, free agents, if they keep going with this same stagnant culture? The front office really needs a President of Hockey Ops position added and people that are willing to be ruthless in the pursuit of winning and not be afraid to make hard moves. When we wonder why a Canadian team hasn't won a the Cup in 30 years, it's not about Bettman or refereeing. A lot of it has to do with the mindset of the ownership groups and front office.

    I'm actually not totally agreeing with Mike on his thoughts regarding the next coach of the Jets... Arnie will be given an interview for sure but it will depend on what his vision is for this team... I don't think it's a given at all. If we are looking around for a coach, none with more pedigree than Cooper in Tampa... not sure if he'd be looking for a new gig but he would have immediate respect because he's seen it all and been through it all as a coach. (One can dream, anyway). 2nd choice would be Gallant and 3rd Woodcroft.

    Player careers are short and windows for them winning are even shorter; you don't have time to experiment with an unproven coach. If your plan is to win then find a coach who has had a previous track record of winning. If you're going with Arniel, then you had better be sure. Otherwise, you're essentially coming across like the Oilers from years ago, who placed former players in positions of responsibility... Those teams went nowhere.

    I think this entire conversation and the criticism of the team is completely going on the wrong track. In last years off-season no one bet a penny on the Jets to make the playoffs, now they finished their season with 110 points. OK they had a terrible playoff series against a team that might win the Stanley Cup. And now I read comments to tear a successful team to shreds? The teams quality is pretty good there is a lot of talent, there have been no locker room problems and next years playoffs are in reach. So just cool down, let the playoff series rest a few days and then plan for the coming season. All in all it was a pretty good season.

    • @pomerlain8924
      @pomerlain8924 Před 6 dny

      Sorry, but this is a piss poor attitude. It was a better regular season, but the playoff result was still the same. That's not good enough. And this crap about losing to a team that will probably win the cup is a defeatist mindset. They lost. End of story. Moves need to be made. The blue line has needed upgrading for the past two years, and their lack of speed and puck handling ability was exposed by the Avs during these playoffs. The Jets need a top 4 defenseman, and Schmidt and Pionk need to be traded/bought out. And if it takes trading away Ehlers or Appleton in order to get a top 4 defensemen then it needs to be done. This is a business about winning. Not just being satisfied with good regular seasons.

    • @stefanbonat1628
      @stefanbonat1628 Před 6 dny

      @@pomerlain8924 Pionk had 33 Points and a +9 last season with 217 points overall. If you trade him for a top 4 defenceman, you get one and let the other one go. Does not make sense. DeMelo had 31 point and a +46, the second best in the NHL. Dillon had a +20. There is no sense in trading away Ehlers for a defensemen of the quality the Jets already have. Toffoli and Monahan are UFAs so who is going to fill the gap Ehlers will leave? The problem for the disappointing playoff series was a lack of commitment throughout the team. The playoffs require 130% , teams like Vegas or the Avs have that mindset. They taught the Jets another painful lesson, at least Helly figured that out.

    • @pomerlain8924
      @pomerlain8924 Před 6 dny

      @@stefanbonat1628 Have you seen Pionk defensively? His points do not matter. He is constantly on the wrong side of the play, and his coverage is terrible. And on top of that he is constantly turning over the puck? He's trying to make blind BH passes through the middle of the ice. His defensive liabilities make him expendable. And Ehlers is too hot and cold. He looks great at times, but there are other times where he constantly turns over the puck and disappears. Not to mention, he was a ghost in the playoffs. He has 4 goals in 37 playoff games. Your problem is that you keep thinking there will be nobody as good in return if these players leave. That's a terrible mindset. This is the business of winning. And in the business of winning, hard moves need to be made to improve the team. Not just keep guys because you don't think anyone else will fill their roles as effectively. And the defense has been an issue for years. A legit top 4 d-man that can skate well move the puck is very much needed. They also need a physical defenseman that will clear the front of the net. And the fact that guys, like Ehlers, who were with the team in 2018, are still saying we need to learn to play with the right intensity for the playoffs should be a red flag. The fact that there's was a timeout and not every player was engaged and focused on the coach, like the Avs' players were is also concerning. And you can't keep running it back and hoping the same players learn another lesson. Change needs to come. That's the business.

Sure he could have played better, but no team can keep continuously giving up high danger chance after high danger chance and expect the puck to say out of the net, no matter who the goalie is. 10 of the 24 goals Helly allowed were screen shots that he couldn't see. That means the guys weren't moving Avs players out of the lanes to allow Helly to see the puck. And you look at why Helly was so good this regular season, and it was because the defense in front of him was also much better. They protected the middle area and kept a lot of shots to the outside. And on the rare occasions that they did give up a high danger chance, Helly was there to erase it. That team defense disappeared from the moment the puck dropped in Game 1.
