my experience at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health | MSPH
Hi everyone! I just finished my first year at The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and I wanted to sit down and make a video reflecting on my experience thus far. Please note that this video is just from my view point- and other people will have had a different experience, please also note that due to COVID, a lot of my classes that were suppose to be in person were pushed online or hybrid. Nonetheless, I wanted to share how my first year at hopkins went.

Hi
Woooowww nice place! Very cute!! 😮😮❤
are you still trying to go to med school ?
Yes!
Do not go to medical school if you want to be a lawyer. And do not go to law school if you want to be a doctor. These professions are very different. If you do the internal work about who you are and what you have to offer the world, then the law versus medicine issue won't even be a question. Don't pick professions out of a cookie jar.
which MSPH program are you in? I know there's a few of them at Hopkins
what department are you in?
PFRH!
are you still there for grad school
Yes!
Why are you so confident you'll get into medschool lol
Because I have good grades, work + volunteer experience & strong letters of recommendation lol
Also will have a masters from Hopkins when applying, so pretty confident I have a good shot 😄
I’m a small but I’m busty (36-38C). I can fit into the small Caterina top, but it’s a little tighter across the bust that I prefer. Unfortunately, the medium is huge on me. Was thinking about trying the Caterina Slim style in a medium.
I’m hoping to move down to SD for Physical Therapy school at SDSU In two years. My sis graduated from SDSU in May 2021 and I attended her graduation and I recently visited SD for the DPT program and toured San Diego in September and LOVED it! Was mind blown at how beautiful it is down there and the vibe was just awesome! Definitely could see myself living there as it’d be a good change of pace from Northern California.
Awesome!! Good luck!:) Yes SD is amazing! Deff a fun change of pace from nor cal!
Keep going! We are cheering for you 😊
Thank you so much!!
Very much appreciated this video
Glad to hear it!!
I just came here for information but left in love 😍
u have a good sense of humor enjoy your internship
Girl I completely understand the challenges you’re facing in graduate school! Im getting my PhD in medical physics at UCLA and go to the geffen school of medicine.I’m in my 3rd year and mentally I don’t know how I can do the next 3 years lol. I’m not going to give up but this is draining and Covid made everything 10x worse
La Jolla is the best! I’m moving there or to Orange County in the future. I actually just found your channel because I’m currently my PhD at UCLA and I watched your video about grad school. I’m in my 3rd year and I’m over it😂 But I’ll push though
Hello there, i will move in to san diego soon (from europe) and i need an affordable apartment which is in a good location. Or can you recommend me an apartment under 2000 usd Thank you so much. I would aprreciate if you can help me. Thanks again. Have a nice day.
You’re glowing, you look amazing!!
That is so sweet! Thank you💗
@@Deardhra You’re welcome!
Loved the honesty. you got this
You should definitely vlog !
I will!
The Indian dominated in your look
great video, lets meet up and vlog together
San Diego is home! Can't believe you are able to move back especially in La Jolla. Good luck with the whole move, WE LOVE SAN DIEGO
☺️☺️☺️
Great to see you're back! I remember watching your one UCSD video that made me subscribe to you! I searched for videos about UCSD before deciding between UCSD and UCB as a psychology major. UCSD was always my dream school, but I picked UCB.
Omg I love that! Thanks for the comment!!💛 UCB is awesome! Congrats 🐻
If I ever move down to San Diego I’m moving in
You need to move to sd like yesterday
I bought some of these due to all the hype so I decided to try them out. These have absolutely no stretch which is a huge deal breaker for me. Super stiff, uncomfortable, tight and baggy at the same time. When I squat the material is very restricting and feel tight on the knees. The top feels tight, yet just hangs down without conforming to my curvature. I couldn't imagine even spending a couple hours working in these, forget an entire shift. By far the worst scrubs I've ever tried.
Oh that’s such a bummer! I really like them, sorry you had that experience. I feel like they’re super stretchy! Maybe try sizing up!:)
Please talk about how you got in to Hopkins.
Nice DNA results and an overall good video. Thanks for sharing it.
I thought you were Filipina or Latina.
I really F with your energy and transparency 💯. I’m currently a Corrections Officer and I’m in the Air Force and I contemplated Law school. After this video I’m definitely choosing medicine.
You deserve this break!!! You’re awesome
💗💗
hey did you graduate in 2020? seems like we are on a similar path! would love to connect
Thxs for the video we need more videos like this.
Thank you. I'm deciding between law school, clinical social worker or licensed clinical art therapist?! Don't know how to decide. I think it might be what the courseowrk is and the entry level jobs. I also might start studying LSAT. I welcome your comments and am inspired by your journey, Faith and Heart, You Leaped ! Cool :)
Good luck on your journey!!☺️
Thank you for the video. Just wanted to say that technically the starting salary for medical school graduates who are required to complete at least 3 (usually more) years of residency in order to practice, make on average 50K per year, after going through 4 years of medical school. And most residents work at least 60-80 hrs with 24-36 hour shifts depending on the monthly block rotations.
Thanks for the comment & info!! After I made this video I realize I made a few errors and plan to do an update that’s a bit more accurate !:)
Hey thank you so much for this video, really puts some things into perspective for me as I also struggle with the same issue. I do want to ask, if somehow law and medicine have the same amount of competition and vacancy, which would you choose?
Your welcome! Glad it helped! I would still choose med! I actually am planning to make a much more updated video on this topic- After getting more experience in medicine since making this video, my perspective has changed on my reasons why- but has become much stronger! It was the right choice for me!:)
@@Deardhra Thanks for the reply! I think I will pursue medicine too, and see how things go from there. As transferring to law a bit more convenient in the uk

hey deardhra, is this any way you could do a video of you going through your mph applications? good luck with everything you’re awesome!!!
Hey! Yes I will make that my next video!!:)
Thank you for uploading your results. It’s fascinating to watch. You’re mostly European and Asian with a sprinkle of African. Many Indians went to the Caribbean and many of the people who live their identify as “black” but are actually partly Indian. Come and join Brit Club! 😎
I’ll be doing mine soon waiting for it to come in the mail. Like you said Jamaicans are mix up, mine should be pretty basic Africa and some Scottish that’s about it I think.
Amazing video, I literally spent the past 2 years studying for the LSAT thinking I wanna do law. I came to all these realizations that you did about law, and I worked at 2 firms and found the connections in the work environment are meaningless. I liked the study of it and intellectual stimulation, but the actual job just feels and looks depressing. I am now trying to be a PA or NP, just need to add like 3-5 science pre recs to my Psych BA while I work in healthcare. I’m glad you made this video so I don’t feel as weird as my peers think I am for this drastic shift in careers lol.
Omg that is insane! I totally understand where youre coming from and so happy you could make that switch!I honestly almost was not going to post this because I felt so weird for announcing the drastic shift as well but honestly so glad I did- because its so normal and I am so happy I switched and feel so much more fulfilled :)
Thank you so much for this! im in law school and thinking about going to pa school
You got some Nigerian in you! 😍😍🇳🇬🇳🇬
Irish slaves were also taken to Jamaica.
Slaves? I don’t think so..
@@noodlyappendage6729 indentured servants. Close enough.
@@dab0331 two very different things.
@@noodlyappendage6729 nope. It all depends on the system of slavery and slave master. Some slaves in modern Africa are treated almost like a kind of family dumb servant, and are hardly brutalized. Some systems allowed the slaves to marry and own a percentage of their yield, and had ok housing. Some slaves were even granted freedom because their master was so nice compared to others. While some indentured servants were treated so brutally (many women even raped) because they were isolated far away from their homeland, and were living in an English society that was racist towards them and wouldn't hear their cries for help even when they went complaining to the authorities of their treatment (if they even had the courage too). If Irish were caught escaping back to Ireland they could be put to death. Not to mention the Irish were slaves in times medieval times.
@@dab0331 I’m not talking about what practices were used by the Africans. I’m talking about the practices used by the British. Indentured servants weren’t slaves and slaves weren’t indentured servants.
I'm really scared i'm starting this fall! and im scared i wont be able to afford it
look into scholarships and grants! also everyone i know took out a loan! very normal! youll have a blast, it can be overwhelming at first, but once you get the hang of things youll have fun!! gl!<3
Because of the Pakistani you look Latina
Pakistani usually have West and Central Asia mix and she has none. You can also see Map is focusing away from Punjab. She is definitely not Pakistani.
I’m going through something really similar right now too with dental school. For me, it has something to really do with taking on a new identity- you work so hard for something in your life and when you finally achieve it, it doesn’t feel real. Your old identity seems gone but you’re still the same person. I’m trying to fight the famed “I syndrome” byjust telling myself that I am the one who made it here, so it is me that does deserve this. Hope that helps. Good luck with the move
You look Turkish Lebanese. Also your father is not as African/black as you thought.
Her father could absolutely be 50/50 African and Indian. Whatever ancestry he inherited is then inherited randomly by her. Though we tend to think that this means inheriting 25% for each grandparent, the reality is that we can easily inherit more or less than that just because of the randomness of it all. The only thing that is guaranteed, is that you will inherit 50% from each of your parents. Based on her understanding of her ancestry and her results, it is entirely possible that she simply inherited more of her grandmother's DNA from her father. If any siblings of hers were to take the test, it would not be surprising to see them show up as more African than Indian, or for them to show regions which were not included in her DNA.
