FUCK Games Workshop
Try playing The ninth age fantasy battles! GW makes miniatures that are nice, not games that are nice Your army looks amazing!
This was brilliant. My wife likes to make little dioramas and faery gardens. So when I show her this, she is going to flip.
There are worse tragedies than having GW stop support of your minis. I learned this same lesson decades ago and the story never changes, but it was really the worthless updating of all the rules that I hated the most. I quickly learned to switch to home rules and playing with my friends in our game club so I didn't care about GW. Of course, you can use other rules systems like Ral Partha Choas Wars or Dragon Rampant (for swords and sorcery fantasy) which are very static, and lend themselves to adding home rules, and your problem is solved. I have never played a system where I thought it was so spectacular that I couldn't make one up which was at least as good. Scale creep is another issue that used to annoy me, until I decided to stick with 25 mm, and maybe throw in some 28 that could fit in, but NO 32s. Scale creep is just stupid. No to rebasing as well!
Anyone know what mini that is. Looks neat
If I remember correctly it's from Die Hard miniatures
@@52Miniatures Ty I will look them up!!
There are NO game police so play with them in the old rules problem Solved
I stopped buying their stuff about 20 years ago when I woke up to their catch and release scam. I will play what I have but will never buy their stuff again.
"the circle of capitalist life"?????? no, that's called GREED, something far more akin to "corporatism." Beautiful paintjobs, nice production, but downvote for poor political commentary (damaging and dangerous even)
This is indeed a dangerous channel!
I watched this video when it came out, but it only just occurred to me how philosophical Dave's question on painting rulebooks was - "If there was one, would it exist?" Indeed.
Hah! It's a weird one right
It could be worse, you could be a Beasts Of Chaos or a Bonesplitterz fan
Hello there! Let me say at yhe beginning that's the first video of yours I've ever seen and I must say it's really quality content! About the subject: you make some valid points and give really good advice. I have another problem though. I'm amost 32 and I've been playing and collecting Warhammer since I was 14. The way I approach the hobby is a bit similar to you: I always have at least a tiny bit of background fanfic about my guys, to make them really my own army. Some names, stories etc. I fell in deep love of Warhammer at first sight and it never went away. When GW decided to kill the old WFB I was devastated. But I also liked the 40k universe so I went there. Last few years I went back to Fantasy even before ToW was released. Let me try to make some sense from this incoherent ramblings: the way I really get sucked into the game is by falling in love withe the lore and creating my own within it's confines. And once I've fallen in love in something it's kinda hard to stop loving it. I really tried to look for other games but there's ine issue: other games aren't warhammer... I don't feel the same connection or deep fascination with their lore. What to do then? How to change a game in this situation?
Welcome to the channel, I appreciate the comment. I definitely understand what you are saying. I think that is why we to a large degree stick to Warhammer, because we have emotional attachment. It's been with us for a long time and it's comforting to stay. I don't think you should stop, if you enjoy the setting and the miniatures, but you could start adding something else as well. Start looking into other miniatures and game systems, try something small out and just see if it gets you in the same way. I really enjoy making warhammer dioramas for example, and that is totally out of bounds from any updates and stuff. But for actual gaming I'm looking around and other things.
I'm an old fantasy player (6th/7th editions) so I'm not new on these things: GW made new models just to blow up everything (rules and more than half of the collection) just to start almost anew with AOS. Now they made The Old World and between the rules not fitting my favorite playstyle, GW clearly managing things wrong to use an euphemism and seeing what is doing with AOS...well I'm even more convinced to stick to the old game if enough players will do the same. I'm sure I'll stop giving them money. At the end it's just a game and you don't have to buy everything new and change everytime they want you to change. Rules will stay and can be revived by the community even 20 years after like in my area. Just have fun as you prefer with your time and money!
It really sucks, but I would proxy if I were you
GW makes a bad game because the literal only thing they care about is model sales? what else is new.
Fun and effective weathering.
Silver Bayonet got me into the hobby, and all my models are 15mm ($ & space are two things i don't have much of). I love it because i dont feel like i have to be precious with the models
You should play the game by the old rules, with people who have the same problem - retired units and armies. "Old" rules were cool, so... just don't use the new one. We did it with my friends in the old days (Warhammer battle, Magic the gathering, D&D). The purpose of the game is having fun - not necessarily on the official tournaments. Yeah - I know you know that, but just wanted to say, that old version of a game is still a game and there is no need of doing what the producer wants you to do. There are a lot of players suffering from GW policy - you all should love the game not loving the company the same time. For me the problem doesn't exist - I only love to paint miniatures and I'm not using it in any wargame. But if I'd play, I'd play some old edition for sure. Thanks for the video!
Curse my colourblindness, I genuinely see no difference in each of the undercoats! But what I can see is some wonderfully smooth and vibrant yellow marines!
When will you upload the next episode?
The most recent was building a lighthouse for the table 👍
15mm is the superior scale imo. I do everything in that scale now.
the same thing happened to me in the 90s. I played a game of 40k with a loaner army. then I decided to pickup the game. I read through the rules and some white dwarf magazines. I thought Eldar Harlequins were cool so I cought two box sets. I spent months painting the figures, and I painted red and white motley patterns free hand. it took so much time. Once my army was done, the 2nd edition of 40K came out. I was so pissed, I swore off GW tabletop models and games.
Rad
Thé beginning looked like some terrorist movie badguy clip or something😂. But seriously though thé mini's look amazing i love thé shields! As someone relative new to thé hobby this video gave some important perspective on how to experience thé hobby and I thank you for that.
I'm sorry man, but you supported Age of Sigmar - you got what you paid for lol. AoS has always been a joke and nearly killed off Fantasy. Supporting AoS is like supporting the bad habits of GW - so don't be surprised when you end up burnt.
Sometimes I'm really glad that I've never played a single game of AOS or 40k even though I own quite a lot of minis 😅
It looks great Alex. I hope to see more of your game board soon. 👍
More to come! Thanks as always
My mum still wears your that hoodie
Awesome!
That's 29, not 52.
I'd love to see a full warband! I feel like playing a skirmish game you could focus more on making the table look spectacular since it's so much less space to have to build for. I love the games Joseph makes and this is an interesting project idea! If you do more please share where you track down more minis in that scale. Thanks for another great video 😊
Noted! Thank you 🙏
This is why I'm so afraid to start playing Warhammer.
I love your videos! Beautiful painting and lovely storytelling ❤😊❤
Thank you so much 😀
@@52Miniatures you are very welcome 🤗
Whenever I need a little boost of inspiration, I just need to watch one of Alex's videos. Thank you Alex. Keep up the amazing work.
Great stuff! I appreciate it
I haven't painted a mini in months. This has inspired me to pick it back up again. Thank you!
Great to hear, I appreciate it!
Fantastic video Nice to see Guy and Mamikon but really really extra nice to Silver Bayonet make an appearance So…. Anything you may do in regards to Silver Bayonet is much appreciated
Couldn't agree more!
i happened on this by chance and honestly this hurts my soul... i mostly play for 40k but thankfully my army has not been touched much yes we got new models but we are allowed to supplement for the older models...and i mostly play friends so we just play with what ever rules were last. just want to say thanks I love your demeanor and subbed love it keep up the good work plus i learned a lot of painting techniques from you.
I appreciate it, thank you PZ
I'm of the opinion that almost all 28mm+ wargames can be reduced to 15mm and play the same, but are suddenly much cheaper and easier to store. It's an excellent scale.
I'm glad you don't feel entirely negative about all this, but I must admit this video made ME feel gutted by the changes. It saddens me that GW games took off the way they did, only for the company to go this road. GW has been like this for some time now, but it's sad that their games were going so well, and now a whole new bunch of hobbyists got burned the same way I did when my Warhammer Fantasy armies were destroyed.
Great video. I paint 6mm, 15mm and 28mm Napoleonic miniatures. I also have Silver Bayonet, I have not played it yet but hopefully soon. I live out in Vällingby and if you want to play some historical miniature wargames, let me know. It would be cool to meet you since you also live in Stockholm! Skål!
I don't paint anything biger than 20mm anymore or game with. Smaller is easier, cheaper and a lot less room to store and game. At the moment I'm painting some 6mm Napoleonic French. Need to find those Orcs though...............
Maybe horde of the things will help with 15mm creativity since is a fantasy system that has a lot of freedom in army composition. I really like playing it
Thanks for the tip 🙏
Great vid and with so many other great vids referenced it works as must see compilation too. That's a lovely finished mini, and in all of the troops raised for the wars of Napoleon someone absolutely would have uniformed his personal retinue in vivid orange and green. The colours definitely bring the tiny guy to life and a dozen of his company advancing in two lines across a verdant green field would just make you grin to see. Great vid and with so many other great vids reminders it works like a must see reminder too.
Thank you Phil! I might want to try and do more of a "brown" one. Like, some renegade battalion without coloured uniform. But then I'll have to figure out some kind of signal colour somewhere to bring them to life. The "red hats" perhaps.
@@52Miniatures As another english fan of the Sharpe books, I particularly enjoyed how the series represented the spanish guerillas. As irregulars entirely in non-uniform clothing it was mostly browns and many individuals wearing a decorated jacket, fancy boots or cool hat that they'd clearly looted as borrowed finery. They looked every bit the forerunners of low budget movie mexican revolutionaries, just a bit more musket and sword than pistolero
15mm on regular round bases look surprisingly good. Food for thoughts, playing 28mm games with no other changes but miniature scale seems possible, might even makes range make a little more sense with guns.
Was lovely meeting you, Alex
You too Dan, hope to make it longer next time. I quick noodle lunch did not feel quite long enough.
@52Miniatures it didn't. Absolutely, would love that.
if you're making various warbands, one could be more regimented and the other more rag-tag and rakish.
Lovely! 🖌
Thanks! 😊
Great vid as usual Man. Silver bayonet looks so amazing
Thanks Tom! It does doesn't it.
Really enjoy how you shot your videos, its so relaxing and cinematic!
I appreciate it HH
Your sponsor segues are the best
Hah! Thank you.
We need more small scale miniatures :) They rock. As do you!!
thanks Toni!
Who says having one 15mm model means the entire game needs to be that scale- maybe the band got cursed in some way and shrunk down, then you could have a mix of whatever scale you want at the time with a funny backstory to tell your opponents.
