New Space Dwarves for Warhammer?

- I've been sent two pre production Immari miniatures from Ravaged Star. I adore Space Dwarves, and so decided to give these a closer look and some paint. The paint scheme features some rather tasty gold / brass techniques as well as dried grapefruit coloured beards.

The narration you do is always top notch and makes the video like a little documentary
I agree, I love Alex's narration. 👍
Thanks you Steven, I’m glad you liked the video.
Rock and stone!
Rock and stone to the bone!
Did i hear a rock and stone?
For Karl!
ROCK AND STONE EVERYONE!
The paint job looks amazing! Thanks for making our minis look even better. :)
Thanks Dave! They where a joy to paint 🎨
one thing ive noticed in running dnd sessions since a young age, people like dwarves but not being short. "How tall is Thorevir Ironaxe?" "oh he's actually fairly tall for a dwarf, 5' 6""...... Fairly tall would be an understatement. Along that same vein, i've never had a male non-short race character (humans, etc) be under 6'. People like height, and i think that translates to minis in a weird way.
I liked the chaos models from Ravaged Star a lot but these sculps are next level, really some of the best dwarves Ive seen in any setting.
Rock and stone! Beautiful job as always!
Rock and stone !
Excellent beardies ! Cheers Alex
Thank you Mr Boom 👋
Those space dwarves look way cooler and more spacey than the ones GW released. Glad that MWG is releasing these. Great paintjob as well, they actually look like the space dwarves I imagine in my mind.
Thanks Cronos 👍
For ones sculpted in green stuff and cast in metal, with old school Squat style check out Skull and Crown & Satyr Art Studio, same sculptor, Drew Day Williams.
Your comment about having several projects going at a time complete resonated with me. At any time I have 1-3 40k kill teams, 1-3 Star Wars Legion Units, and 1-3 board game mini project going. Love these, and love the channel!
Thanks P 🙏
Man I don't even like metallic paints but you managed again to make them looking good!
Thank you Erik!
Rock and stone! Great looking dwarves! Ravaged start originally didn't get me, but this dwarves do change that
Thanks Jane. I like them. I still don't know if they are "Dwarves" as they are as tall as a space marine. But I'm eager to hear the story.
My lawyer will be in touch.
"welcome to 52miniatures, Alex is busy painting at the moment please leave a message after the beep and we'll probably not listen to it."
Ohh nice, the guy with the heavy gun looks amazing
It ain't a gun if it don't weigh at least one hundred pounds!
New 52 miniatures video? This gets the *big* screen/mug of tea combo. I've been inspired by this to try out a similar metallic technique. Innsmouth blue! Lovely. Tasteful tealy ... fantasy ish blue. don't regret buying this inspired by one of your earlier videos. All resemblances of any dwarfs to well loved Yorkshire scenics based hobbyists entirely coincidental ...
Hah! Luv luv luv
These dwarves mean business!!! I love how matte you paint the minis and though I was a bit skeptic of the metallics in the beginning, they came out really good at the end!
I need to remember those words about having multiple projects going. I'm stuck in my diorama for now, while having boardgame minis to paint. But at the same time, i don't want to end up with 2 unfinished projects.... choices choices....
There will always be unfinished projects Valdo :)
This video was the perfect length to watch while eating a bowl of mini wheats. Thank you for being so considerate, Alex. Great content as well.
I cant wait till you pop up in my feed, your story telling is brilliant and your paint schemes are so inspired, thank you Akex for the you put in.
Wow, thank you IS!
Perfect timing Alex! I wrote you once, that I save your videos for the moment, when I would be relaxed enough to have the most fun with them. So, today you did it! Published video the day I was ready to enjoy one. Congratulations! And thank you ;)
Thanks Marcin!
Fantastic. I can hear them shouting things like "ROCK AND STONE TO THE BONE". And you are really making me want to mess with oils. Cheers!
Did I hear a rock and stone??
Excellent! Mission accomplished.
Now these are propper metal space dwarves! Great paintjob also.
Thanks W!
Lovely scheme. They came out well! Great video as always :)
Thank you very much!
I love the look of these guys. Great paint job.
As a counterpart to the rust, I've found oiled metal with little bit of colour shift paint for those who take care of their weapons.
Very cool. I enjoy watching you experiment as you paint.
That metal is so good. I looks like metal (not like metallic paint) which is rare. I'll be coming back to this when I'm working on my next figures.
Thanks Adrian!
Cracking paint job! And a very chilled out watch, as ever.
Thank you, I appreciate it 🙏
Great result. Really do like the mean and moody metallics 👍
Wow, haven't been paying attention and now I see a videos been up all day! Love that patina effect on the metal!
Thanks Markus 🙏
Space dwarves are where its at these days. Great video Alex. Gonna have to do a few of my Votann in metallic now I think. I'll pass on the rust though 😉 My space dwarves take care of their gear. But they will be Grim and Dark! Again, thank you!
Yeah, I think passing on the rust is a good idea. Thanks Sean.
Spicy space dwarfs. The magenta touchs are very nice.
Cannot wait to be creative with necro gold from scale. Some still sleeping necrons monarchs waiting for it. Keep on the good work!
Thanks Dan. The “peridot” worked out as a good highlight for the necron gold.
ROCK AND STONE!
Your intro track reminds me of the beginning of Fishmans LONG SEASON, its a good song, can recommend.
Yo glad you did some "Squats" today. Been wanting to see you do some.
Thank Matt!
Awesome video, as always. LOVE these space dwarves!!
Thanks man :)
Those are beautiful. You did a fantastic job painting them. The models are also very cool. Way better than the votann models GW calls dwarves.
Great stuff friend 👏 👍
Thanks for sharing your journey friend
Thank you Mark 👍
I love how you make painting minis uniquely and beatifully more excesseble for me!
Thank you for the content!
Thank you Para! 🙏
I have to say that tall dwarf has the best beard hair I've seen on any mini. Very unique but also a tad more realistic than the more mainstream dwarves
It’s got a good fluffy volume to it :)
Metal and... I mean ROCK AND STONE!!
If you like space dwarves, Alex, you may really enjoy Deep Rock Galactic videogame. It's a cooperative game where you mine minerals and shoot space bugs, colors are vibrant, atmosphere adventurous instead of horror, making the game also kind of family friendly, so you may enjoy playing it with your son.
Anyway, great video as always, your style of narration, visuals and painting are top notch!
I don’t really play computer games but I’ll have a look, thanks :)
12:39 😍 Dwarf miner!
indeed! From my childhood.
You are great to watch and listen to Alex, ask dave for one with a power axe - its mandatory
Good plan!
Awesome, really enjoy the narative. Both interesting to listen to and informative! Kind of relaxing, in fact.
Always excited to see an upload Alex. The time between them is well worth the wait, I'm slowly starting to develop a passive like for metallic paints myself they're useful but at the same time they also create some problems and when trying to fix them can be tough depending on the problem.
As always, big fan of how you go about tackling a project and it's fun to watch your process can't wait to see the next one :)
Thanks Ovan!
I’m using this way of painting for my Kharadron overlords and Greywater fastness
I heard 'award winning blending' and my ears pricked up... seems you grabbed my attention.. Nice dwarves
nice paint job as always really enjoyed the colour of the hair well done
Those Metallics turned out fantastic, thanks for the video Alex!
Billy & Dusty? Are you abit of a ZzTop fan too? Really like the new Ravaged star veil touched chaos warriors too. Dave at MWG has some great sculpts & you definitely do them justice! Thank you for another great video. 👍
Yes I am! :) Thanks Christy
Billy and Dusty.. is that a ZZ Top Reference? First time watching your videos.. I am impressed.
It is indeed :) Welcome to the channel
Look pretty good for use as kharadron too tbh
I love your videos Alex. They always make me smile when I see a new one is available to watch, and seeing it in the morning sets my day off right! Question: how long does it take the oil wash mixture you used in this video to dry? I haven’t taken the leap yet though I’m tempted, but that will make a difference for me.
Thanks Magnus. I would say that an oil wash, that is like in this case a dilution of about 1 part oil paint to 10 parts white spirit dries overnight in a warm and ventilated place. The layer of oil paint is so thin it dries relatively fast. If you Abtielung (ak interactive) oil paints they will dry even faster... but I think the quality is not as good as artist grade oil paints... but this is a personal preference.
That gold brass colour is top tier!! Definitely going to be copying that. Also, love the light blue and magenta as a nice contrast with the metal colours!
Thanks W!
Absolutely (inter)stellar.
💪
Rocks and Stones !
Excellent as always
12:08 I like how to your eyes a regular matt varnish, is stil shiny. I like that look, but I know you like them bone dry.
As always, loved the video! :)
My mom loved the recommendation!
Awesome :)
Rock and Stone!
I like these a lot more than the Veil Touched. Veil Touched had too much going on for me, very cluttered and I didn't know where to focus on them. These feel much more comfortable to look at, if that makes any sense
I typically dislike dwarves, but you tell a good story.
Looks cool. 👍
Thanks 👍
This video is really great!
Thanks guys 👋
They look more like aged Goliaths from Necromunda than dwarves but still cool.
I wonder if Ivory black wouldn't have been as staining as the Lamp black oil paint
Billy and Dusty.. ZZ Top fan yourself? As usual, awesome video Alex!
Cheers!
Aye, musically… lyrically the dirty old man vibes are a bit to strong
@@52Miniatures those riffs are on point for sure! :)
your videos are excellent
Thank you Charlie, I appreciate it.
They fly on the ship the HMS La Grange? Also, sorry about the spilled wash - I feel that pain
Hah, yeah. Sharp dressed short man.
Great models and paint jobs. What is that blue armoured model on the left at the start?
Never mind, I see there are some female armoured warriors in the kickstarter. Fantastic models.
Yes, The Veil Touched
Checking references for images of “slightly dried grapefruit “. Love your narrative as much as I admire your painting. Thanks so much for sharing. How tall are those “dwarfs” btw! 😉
Dwarves in spirit I believe :)
Awesome 🤙🏼🤙🏼
Thanks! 😁
Your content has been recommended to my mom.
Excellent 👍
Named Billy and Dusty? Check! Beards? Check! Space ZZ Top confirmed.
Confirmed!
Scaled up they’d make good Ogryns
They look more like space dwarfs than 99% of the Leagues of Votann.
Hey so I’m new to messing with oil paints and just wanted to know how long after the oil wash is it ok to varnish. Kinda afraid to touch it lol
Oil paint does not cure in the same way as acrylic paint but the same contributors help. Make sure you put the mini to dry in a warm and dry place. A Window in the sun for example can be a good spot. Or on top of a warm water radiator. This will speed up drying / curing. The rest is up to how thick you have put the paint on. I'd say a day for an oil wash. Really thick paint can take a week or more to dry. I've never had that problem, but I never paint very thick.
5:35 😂
I was just lucky it did not fly all the way on to the floor and break into shards.
SQUATS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can a dwarf be a Sharp Dressed Man?
!
Hi Alex, Sorry no witty repartee today. Excellent paint job, color scheme and video as usual. I look forward to your next project.
Oh one thing, I watched your music composition video. Perhaps you should restrict your videos to just miniature painting. Your copious other talents are starting to make us mere mortals feel inadequate 😉
Take care 🗿
Hah! There’s beyond a multitude of things I’m terrible at. The trick is to only flaunt the ones I don’t suck at 🤷🏼♂️
@@52Miniatures 🤣
My mum does still wear your hoodie, but she hasn't watched any videos yet. 😅
Love that. It's an exclusive hoodie now as well. I've removed it from the store because it was getting to expensive.
@@52Miniatures I'll try to get her to watch one
@@52Miniatures Delighted that I own a collector’s item. 😉
I recommended you to my mum. 😆
Lovely!
Rock and Stone, brother.
They're way too big. I'd print them at 80-90%, personally.
These are not to print though. I am printing “in house” pre production minis in the video, not printed by me. In the future they will be plastic like the Veil Touched
Hasn't even bothered to send out the shit for the first wave, but hey greed lets make more!
I think that’s a bit harsh. From what I understand the Veil Touched are being produced. And these next minis will not be available to back until the previous campaign is fulfilled. I’ve got difficulty seeing how someone wanting to make more miniatures and expand is a bad thing?
ROCK AND STONE!
